actually you can partition it ,i do 75% for windows and programs i install and 25% for keeping backup of thing i don't want to loose if i have to reinstall windows. Also where i download image files to for burning

you need to edit out the reference to the hard drive in the boot.ini file ,you can use note pad to open the file

you should download and run AD-Aware and Spybot ,don't forget to update them before you scan computer ,then post back a new log !
Hijackthis will backup what it removes but not when you are running it from with in the zip file so un zip it to its own folder on you c:\ drive and run it from there .

I followed all of the instructions on it though, although one thing I dont understand, where is the setup.exe file? Do I find it in the DVC325 folder?

Hmm, what you should do is make sure the access program isn't in the startup folder, if it isnt, go into MSCONFIG and uncheck the startup items bullet. If that doesn't work i dont know whats up

sounds like a browser hijacker ,

download Ad-aware and spybot ,installand update them ,Download hijackthisin my sigunature , and run it and copy and paste the log here , don't fix anything with hijackthis until after you post a log and I have a look at it.

About a week ago, through no intentional action on my part, my system decided to start up directly in MS Access.

I have searched through msconfig and find no entry re: Access, only two "MS Office".

If anybody has any ideas as to how to stop this, please send me an e-mail.

did you check Start/allprograms /startup ,and see if the axcess is in there .

get him to email you a link to it and try that or retype in his address

Thanks for the reply, I thought the second would probably be ok, but I'm not sure what you mean by memory shared for video. I was under the impression that when you go to control panel- system - general tab it should tell you exactly how much memory you have installed e.g. 512mb. Thanks

If a computer has onboard[built into the motherboard ] video ,and not a serparate PCI or AGP video card ,it will share the system ram ,and it will not show in control panel /system .

System restore is not a software restore .you need to reinstall java

the first one sounds like memory shared for Video .
the second sound about right the more memory you give windows the more it uses just to boot up ,{Mine is at 768\554 ,with only noticible thing running is norton and IE},you might not think you are running anything ,but there is always a lot running in the background .
check inStart\ Run\ type in MSCONFIG go to STARTUP ,and see just what runs in the background

I bought my computer just for Everquest but find myself frequently fustrated with it even trying to run StarCraft.

Graphics card : e-GeForce FX 5200
Mother Board : ASUS (A7N8X Deluxe)
Processor : AMD 2500+ (2.88)
Modem : PCI V.92 Internal
512 DDR (2 x 128 K-byte)

~its got a fan (very loud one :) ) so i don't see the problem is overheating.

~Its not overclocked.

~Drivers are all updated.

~Ive got A norton antivirus scanner with current definitions.

The computer usually just restarts about every 30-60 mins.

Sometimes I see a blue screen with white writing right before it restarts when i am typing or moving the mouse

I am experincing exactly the same problem when the computer restarts several minutes into windows, it happens it seems every 2 weeks. I have a Sony RS322, also I have noticted you do not even need 2 log onto windows for the computer to restart.

hijack should not be in a temp folder ,put in a folder of its on the root of C:\

how about running hijack again and posting another log !

OK this is what we need to get hijack to fix ,
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [rundll32] C:\WINNT\rundll32.exe

then reboot into safe mode /hitting f8 on bootup to get to safe mode .and delete this file --C:\WINNT\rundll32.exe--- make sure it not the one in the C:\WINNT\System folder

also a good Idea to check for updates of spyware programs like hijack and CWShreadder before running them

you could also make a small partion and install win 98 on it.
boot to win 98 and change the file you want.
then delete the partion you made.

If they are using xp/with ntfs file system win 98 will not see XP!

Ok also ,when doing the scans and fixes with hijackthis make sure that all browser windows and window explorer windows are closed .

Ha, can't seem to find CFJ.exe anywhere. Also, what exactly is BRIDGE.DLL? The error message just came back, and I can safely assume it's do to something someone else did while using this computer.

post a new log and i 'll check some more .

First thing you should run hijack from its own folder on the c:\ drive ,so when it creates backups they don't get lost in a temp folder .iwill analize the log and get back to you later .it takes a while

you have been hijacked ,download the hijackthis program in my signature , put it in a folder in the root of C:\ and not a temp folder and run it and copy/paste a log back here don't fix anything yet ,lets have a look in the log first .

so does it happen if you search with IE toolbar search, instead of google toolbar ,if no then maybe you should try uninstall and reinstall the google toolbar

have you tried a search of the cd in start/search and type in layout.bin and search the D:\ if that is the drive letter

try booting up in Safe mode .hit f8 or f5 when booting computer

,did you but the software cd in and go to mycomputer and right click drive and hit explore and look for a driver folder ,just a thought
