The severity is hard to say ,have you remove the towers case and looked to make sure the cpu fan is running and free of dust build up .

check in the control panel ,add/remove programs for save now and any other strange looking programs,also have you ran a virus scan.this free version of AGV ,works great .

Have you checked your computer for this virus ,I had problems and error messages pertaining to svchost and when checked i had this virus, down load the removal tool,3/4 way down this page and run it, it will check for the virus and if found remove and then take you to microshaft for the critical update .

is the burner on the same ide chanel as the hard drive ,if so it it set to slave ,have you tried it on the secondary ide set as master .???

My friend says that (in the link) the p4 cpu can also be used as a motherboard.. i dont know if this is true but if it is then what type of ram do i need?

OK ,not to insult you but ,a p4 can only be use as a motherboard makes no sense,but i will guess it means that the p4 will only make certain motherboads work .and if you are trying to upgrade you cpu then you need to buy one to fit your motherboard ,if you are buying both cpu and motherboard and ram ,you will need to match them all,start with the P4 ,then get a motherboard that takes a p4 ,and buy the ram to match also ,it will likely be DDR Ram.

Pcsnoop,or ptsnoop,ptsnoop can be a trogan or it alson can be a program loaded with certain modems ,but it sounds like you have a trogan ,as you are getting more strange .exe ,i hade a computer here the other day with the same problem it hade 5 worms on it and they eventually stoped the computer ,it would just boot tothe desktop,they had about 1500 .e.xe files corrupted .I had to reload windows .RUN the AVG program quick !!

The solution has been posted here at least 2 times already. Apparently no one reads: Go into TOOLS/INTERNET OPTIONS/ADVANCED Scroll to bottom and see SECURITY. Make sure to CHECK MARK "Do Not save encrypted pages to disk" Hit APPLY It will work. I had the same problem for months. You can now SAVE AS the format the image is in. In windows explore i just did what you want to do ,what we need to figure out is why yours is greyed out .have you tried to make these changes in safe mode ,boot computer ,pressing f8 choose safe mode ,and see if its greayed out

please explane a little better just what it is you are trying to do !!

do you have a program like cookie patrol or cookie crusher , if so they sounds in them to tell when a cookie is being rejected ,if you do you should be able to shut off sounds in there preferences ,this would account for hearing the noise only when you open web sites .

The problem with surge proctectors is we don't buy good enough one and we don't buy a new one often enough ,they are blocking spikes all the time and are only good for so many spikes and a good surge !!

Thank you for the info ,the computer is not mine ,fixing it for neighbour,install and ran AVG,it found 3 worm 32/parite,klez worm ,and nimba worm ,and they infected over 1500 .exe's so i think a clean install is in order for this machine ,thanks

Working on a p4 1.6 with winxp ,it had the w32 blaster work plus a lot of spyware exe's in Registry ,current version/ run ,it would just sit at the desktop ,i removed the worm,spyware from msconfig ,now it runs at the desktop but some program will run for just a few seconds.and this fwvjqcmdte.exe keeps apearing in msconfig / and run in the registry,(in the registry it says config.sys -----fwvjqcmdte.exe)after i remove it and reboot .any ideas ,nothing in a google search .
It also won't let me install nortons anti virus ,install but will not auto protect .!!???????

If you arew using winxp go into mycomputer and right click on the drive icon and click properties /auto play and set it to do as you please

I just got xp and reformated my hard drive and installed as per instructions from my friend. Everything worked right. I shut down the computer for the night and the next morning when I started it and went to the internet as soon as I hit the connect button on the DUN the computer freezes no mouse movement and ctrl-alt-del does not work. I had to reinstall xp to get it to work. Nothing I did would fix it. If I leave my computer on then I can get to the internet with no problem but if I shut the computer off then when I go back it freezes presses the connect button. I have reinstalled xp 7 times now and have decided to leave my computer on and turn off the monitor. Any suggestions would be really appriciated.

try this , go to Start/ run /type in SFC /scannow ,this will fix system files .also u could try creating a new dialup connection .

Ther's a learning curve XP to linux!!

I had the blaster worm ,and the way the worm worked at first was the more times you restarted your computer the deeper/more the word did ,to where i couldn't hardly keep the computer running to fix it .I got the svchost errorrpc/service eroor /generic host process/and on and on .got rid of it now .the most important pard of running the remover and patch is to disable the system restore until you completly remove the virus .

I have one ,not using it putting it a customers computer it a gigabite board ,and the reasons you give are excatually what the dual bios does.helps most if you do a bad flash.

Perhaps that's because it tried to save something such as setup.exe or something like that to your temp internet files directory, and the msn messenger had the same name in the temp folder, and for some reason it didn't overwrite it. Just an idea. LOL

You are right ,i just downloaded it to my desktop and it wanted to install,also downloaded it to my regular download folder with about 20 other downloads in it and ran it from there and it wanted to install /fix messenger .crazy first time that ever happened .

ok, check to make sure the speaker plug is pluged into the green socket /make sure the speakers are not muted in control panel /sound and audio device
