for starters you are downloading from other peoples computer when you use utorrent ,so there upload speed determines you download speed ,and not everyone has the 6mb speed you have

sorry usually dosn't count when it comes to drivers ,the realtech driver installed on this laptop ,so it has realtech device or the driver would not have installed at all

Apart from the obvious, I've experienced that Conexant High Definition SmartAudio 221 drivers work on most laptops =)

Hi, are you saying that this driver will work with win7 on a laptop with a realtech sound device, because that's what this laptop has ,it doesn't have a Conexant sound device

not sure about your laptop but i have a compaq v2000,installed win7 and it had all the drivers the laptop need to run and run well.
also you cant upgrade from winxp to win7 ,you must do a new install of win7 ,so backup your data first

if you have someone with a computer and a burner ,get a copy of live cd KNOPPIX and boot to it to see if your computer still works and you just have a windows install problem .

Yes, your right. but I meant that I started with XP on the machine and installed Win 7. While it won't "upgrade it" it will install over XP.

right and it will tell you that its going to format and create a folder called windows.old where it will store you xp files ,or at least it should

if your disk came with a cd key which it should
you should be able to boot from it format the system partition or drive and run it as a clean install rather than an upgrade.
just back up your data first.
upgrade disks and install disks both work the same - at least they do in the uk!

if it were me i would reinstall windows 7 and install the high def driver to see what happens .also it may be its need motherboard chipset drivers ,i would try that also [first]

ok,maybe you tried this allready but here goes .
go to control panel/sound/ check in advance and properties for check boxes to make sure speakers are turned on

it must be a fresh/clean install as its not possible to upgrade to win7 from winxp

. and it is very fast is there a reason for it being fast.

i cant say for sure ,it could be video card or it could be windows not functioning properly ,you need to try plugging it into another monitor!
not to confuse you but some computer have both onboard video and a add in video card ,if you have 2 you could remove the addin and try the onboard .
the pluggin for onboard is blue and up top around the keyboard and mouse conections

well the fact that it shows nothing when you hood laptop top to is says a lot .as for checking monitor ,short of taking it to a repair shop ,only way i know is to hook monitor to a know working computer

most like you need to go to web site of your computer maker or motherboard maker , and get win7 drivers for you sound device if there are any!

sorry i couldn't be of more help. i just checked the bios of a Compaq laptop i have here and it dont give you much to change at all ,i would have thought given that you can buy a pcmcia sound card ,you would be able to disable onboard sound device in the bios.

hi, did you try any of the things JemB suggested [all good suggestions ],as you didn't say if any of it made any difference, had to make suggestion if we don't know what you tried so far

I have Windows XP Pro. Defragmenting is aborted due to inconsistencies in files. Running scandisk and chkdsk is ineffective. Help!

Hello caperjack,

You cannot downgrade from any higher SKU to a lower one just by using a key. You will need to do a full reformat since there's no option for downgrading, only upgrading (via Windows Anytime Upgrade). You however can still save profiles and settings by using Windows Easy Transfer, but unfortunately, you will need to reinstall all softwares you're using.

elaborate what ,[so if you can boot to the bios/setup on bootup and reset it to defaults setting ]simply said in other post ,this is basic stuff ,read on the first screen when you turn on the computer as to what key to hit to boot to bios /setup,look for set to default and do so then exit and save changes

just a ?,did you uninstall the driver win7 loaded ,before you install one of the latest drivers you mentioned you tried from Realtek or Soundmax'

edit ; just found info that the sound device might be, Intel High Definition Audio Full-duplex audio,so unless you are trying high def drivers its not gonna work

cant imagine why it would make a difference as media center only uses WMP[or your default player ] to play the music,is WMP set as your default media player device .

might not be there but it should be , i would look in the bios for sata mode ,and set it to ide for the time being to see if that helps .it helps when install winxp with no sata drivers on a floppy disk

are you fluent in diskpart ,as im am not' but have used it to created a bootable thumb drive following a utube video of course .

Can you explain how to do that? Its good that you explained, I thought it was my computer! So are you saying that a mp3 file thats like 2 hr concert will fit on a 80 min cd?

not saying one mp3 file takes long to convert ,but if you put 10-12 it would take awhile to convert ,but should not take 2 hrs ,but of cource that depends on the speed of you burner ,and the speed of your computer
if you just want to put the songs on disk to get them off the computer ,simply tell burning software to make a data disk and copy about 150 to 200 songs depending on there quality,yest just use regular cd-r, no need to use cd-rw as they are more expensive as they are erasable and you can reuse them

Using Sonic..My system is Windows XP....It seems to take forever, I am wondering if there is anything I can do to improve the preformance of this? Also at times my fan on the machine runs and the weather is not hot yet..

assuming you are burning mp3 file to cd ,and doing it in such a way that they will play in regular cd player[like a car stereo ] if so the mp3 file is being converted to a different larger[wav file ] format ,hence the long time to transfer files to disk
if you have mp3 file and do not care if they play in a car stero [put hundred of songs on each cd for safe keeping ],just burn the cd as data cd and the mp3 is not converted ,there more files fit on the cd and time to transfer is faster .

Also any of you who knew anything about transfering music files from hard drive to cd..I wonder if files are larger than 80 min and the cd is only 80 minutes, is there any program or way to split the source file to accomodate the the 80 minute cd?

right click on mycomputer go to options it will show either windows sp2 or sp3
