hi,posters you are replying to are only signature spammer and just typing shit ignore them .
i stoped using windows defender because of the broblem you are having ,i now use microsoft security essentials on all my computers as my virus and spyware ,with very good results.

had you read forum rules you would have see that you were to start your own thread and nopt tag a old one ,for best results

so it worked for a bit ,did you not copy the files to the laptop so you would have had them in 2 places ,which is always best serneo ,
sounds like maybe the drive was remover incorrectly ,did you try the drive in another computer ,you need to do a chkdsk on it some how ,go to control panel /admin tools /computer management /diskmanager ,see if it shows there

well my opinion is its security software blocking it could be you virus program,a firewall settion or a browser setting so you need to go into the properties/setting of all your security program

it could be a security feature or popup blocker of sorts ,what browser/browsers are you using .

20sec is not a long time to hang going into safe mode e.
tdi.sys is miscrosoft drive releated to networking .
hanging and the problem you experienced is usually caused by a device driver conflict .
sometime we tend to try or do things we dont need to be doing or some time is a windows update that can cause the problem ,so if it aint borok don't fix it ,and usually stay away from software updates from windows updates,just getting the critical updates .

sure,just slave it to another computer ,just open other computer after you shut it down and unplug it ,to slave the drive make sure jumper on back of the drive is set to slave and add it to the same ribbon cable as the cdrom .
boot computer and go to mycomputer and it should show as a 2nd harddrive ,then you can search for files and copy and paste them to the computers main hard drive or a thumb drive ,good luck

I too repair [at home] computer ,and would have tried a new power supply in it a long time ago if it were in my shop

I get this too. It does the 'shutting down rundll32.exe' thing and then goes to a 'run32dll.exe nit responding'. Most concerning though is that I also have a problem with my restore point facility (XP Pro). When I try to access it I get a message 'Sys Restore has been turned off by group policy. To turn it on contact your domain administrator.' (which is me anyway).

my computer is booting from the 500 gb it is running vista home premium.... the 80 gb is a slave whit pata connection

but only if the 80 gig is not installed ,did you check boot order in the bios to make sure it is 500 gig drive set as first bott and not the pata 80 gig drive

don't think wiping of lcd did it ,but will say don't use window cleaner on you lcd ,use a lcd cleaner only .
if you have a add in video card / agp or pci-e i think you need to open the case and make sure the card is seated correctly by pushing in on the card

i got 500 GB hdd witch is the windows one and a 80 GB hdd it is just for junk and games.... but like if i connect the pata cable and disconnect the power cable then the hdd goes hot....

oh,that different ,you fail to mention that it was a slave drive in your first post ,all i can say is hard drives go bad overnight or quicker !!

if i disconnect the wires from the hard drive then pc starts normaly... plz help....

normally means it would boot to windows,unplugged hdd will not bootto windows ,
my experience is that the drive is either dead ,or a bad cable,or bad software issue like a boot manager file
try booting to a windows cd and run repair

download and install /update malwarebyes and scan with it also
