I just got a new laptop with 64-bit Windows 7. I'm trying to use a simple login script that works fine on my XP machine to mount a TrueCrypt volume and share it.

However, when I run RMTSHARE.EXE at a command prompt, it now reports that it can't run "due to incompatibility with 64-bit versions of Windows".

Using Windows Explorer, on the Properties sheet for RMTSHAR.EXE, on the Compatibility tab, I set the Compatibility Mode to" Run this program in compatibility mode" for "Windows XP (Service Pack 2)". When I then execute it, it tells me it's "not compatible with the version of Windows you are running. Check your computer's system information to see whether you need an x86 (32-bit) or x64 (64-bit) version of the program, and then contact the software publisher."

Does anyone know how I can either get RMTSHARE to run on a 64-bit Windows, or find a copy of it that will?

don't know for sure ,but a quick search leads me to believe its not available in 64bit .

actually the ram is different to.the intel has ddr3 1066,
personally i like the Intel but that goes way back, and i buy because of price ,3 laptops[2 Compaq's and a Toshiba ] in the house right now and they all have amd cpu's and i have no software or hardware issues . my tower is intel and all my towers have been intel ,well all but one away back

I've got a problem with copy-paste that seems more global than any other problems that I've seen reported by others. The ability to paste just suddenly quit working across the board. It doesn't matter whether I do it through command keys (Ctrl-C/Ctrl-V) or from the right-click menu. On the right-click menu 'Paste' is always greyed out. Doesn't matter what application I'm in or what type of data I'm trying to copy/paste (text, images, PrtSc, whatever). I've run a complete scan of my computer and found no threats. I've rebooted a couple times. Nothing fixes it.

Any ideas? Anybody? I never appreciated how much I used copy/paste until it quit working!

reinstall windows ,should be a sure fix

i have win7 and a soundblaster audigy sound card and can turn it up to 100% and blow the speakers if i wish ,i think its a sound driver issue at best ,

so you can read ,i never said there was a difference,reread my post and show me were i said there was ,I use win7 with out any issues with it ,you have problems with it maybe something is wrong with your computer not win7

i guess that means i need to start saving some money up, so i can get a better machine. do you have any suggestions where i might find a cheap machine that has a faster cpu? i would like one that is at least as easy to take apart and clean/add hardware as the one i have. i do have 3 small capacity hard drives (2@ 30GB, 1@ 327MB) out of old machines, and a few cd-rw and floppy drives, as well as some other spare parts. all i would need in the box (other than the mobo and cpu) would be a sound card and usb2.0 ports, and a free pci slot.
sorry i got impatient about there not being a way to get my old 'frankenstein' to handle all the sh** i ask it to do. i just have to get some extra money together :$

thank you for your honest opinion, but at the moment i cannot afford a new machine. i may be able to save up for a few months for a cheep 'bare bones' type system, but at the moment even that is out of reach .... i do appreciate your time in replying to my plea for advice and help with this issue

hence my answer ,,you board is so old that the biggest cpu it will take is not much bigger than the one in it now ,so any money spent on it is just a wast

Have been trying to upgrade vista to windows 7 but I keep getting the same message.
"Setup can't continue. Restart computer and restart setup. When prompted try getting the latest upgrades". This was done many times and the message that the upgrades were downloaded was seen yet it stop. Help anyone!

do you have vista service pack 2 installed ,if not install it and try update again

why would you assume that ,

an OS that has not been proven to be stable yet. I only had bad experiences with it.

you must be using the cracked version ,I've been using legit 7 ultimate since early October and am having absolutely no issues with win7

you computer is at or below recommended hardware configuration to run winxp effectively,any upgrade it could take will not be enough to help, new machine is in order ,
i repair ans sell used computer and would throw something like your away !

I have also did remove old one ...so i got again same thing....monitor is doing same thing .......

that test is to see if psu powers,yours does,as it runs 6-24 hrs 'you need to have it checked to make sure its putting out correct voltage and not heating up,or has bad capasators or is shorting out ,some of what can be tested with a cpu tester.and just to take ram out is not enough ,your computer is running for hours before it shuts down,thats why i suggested memtest86,run it for hrs over night,there comes a time when you have to give in and take computer to pro repair shop ,that time is when you don't have resorces to test all possiable hardware problems

i would test power supply first ,then i would test ram , for ram i use memtest86 bootable cd ,and run it over night ,for psu i use a psu tester i own,or use a newer known good psu

from my google search its a nvidea video card driver ,so if you don't have a nvida video card then yes you can remove the file .

Cannot find any "settings" you refer to on the system. I have installed 27 copies of Windows 7 so far without any problems, just this machine with these older ATI cards

i had a radeon 9200 and it installed drivers but didn't function proper,there were no win7 drivers for it just winxp i think, i install with winxp compatibility, so i bought a newer card with nvida chipset

Help! I have no clue now what to do? I have Vista, and missed XP- but also, I am not very computer savvy to begin with. I just hooked up a Dell for my sister with Windows 7 on it. Can I use her installation disk on my computer to download Windows 7 onto my computer? I agree I think that Microsoft owes me a free copy after this vista debacle. I don't know for sure, but I am figuring Windows 7 must be on the installation disk (as in: already installed). Am I right or wrong? Like I said, I am not too computer-savvy. If I install Win 7, will I lose all my pictures, etc. or will I need to put them on an E-book? I have other questions, but am hoping for some kind of a reply at the very least on this post.

you cant use your sisters win7, don't understand why people have problem with vista ,we have 2 laptops running vista with out any issues at all ,
you should have your pictures and stuff backed up anyway if they mean anything to you, as your hard drive could die any time!

why we are suggesting another player is to see if it will play the file ,if it doesn't then there is something wrong with the file

hi ,your not fully explaining what it is you want to accomplish ,
if winxp is on the 80gig and working why would you need to run a repair .
if you only plan on using the 500 for data storage then you would need to format it ,if it didn't come formatted

remember to backup you registry before you remove /edit it in anyway , open regedit and go to file and export to back it up,save file to place you will remember

ok,if it just the user name and password of a created user acct and not the admin acct then boot to safe mode ,hitting f8 on startup and go to the admin acct[by default it should not be pass worded ] and then go to control panel ,users and delete the password from your acct

First Thank You for taking the time to answer my thread. I ran disk and upon completion, pop up will not operate with ME need to have Microsoft 2000 but prefers XP. I was just hopeing there was a patch instead of haveing to buy a new program. I really hope you have the answer.

I tried that removing and re-installing in compatable mode and windows 7 still says no icon files in dll files.
Windows 7 home prmium does not have XP mode in it, all others do like professional and ultimate version. I guess I bought the wrong version.

if you have winxp legit copy you may still be able to use virtua; pc in win7.i know this is win vista but should still work
