ok you may have a virus or malware

if you have no other option you might need to reset the computer back to factory defaults.

restart the computer and press Ctrl and F11 at the same time when the computer starts to boot this should bring up the pc restore tool. follow the directions on the screen and it will reset your computer.

The poster is trying to do a recovery !!! and there keyboard will not work when needed !
Im self taught ,and been fixing computer for about 10 yrs now,and im learning everyday so ,please tell me how a virus or malware is going to stop the keyboard from working when windows isn't even running .and don't say boot sector virus .

Give this a try i think its your problem.
--------------------------------
Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)

Reasons for this error include a driver that is not present; a binary file that is corrupt; a file I/O problem, or a driver that references an entry point in another binary file that could not be loaded.

Have you installed a 'packet driver' lately??

Possible Solution...... go to Start /run/ type in ,regedit.and do the following

There are 2 reg keys that can screw the device......remove them both and reboot......

The keys are:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325 -11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} - "Upperfilters" and "Lowerfilters".

Of course... the fact that I continued running the machine even after it first started doing the whole shut-down thing almost a year ago is another issue...

it sure is ,if it been that long then maybe its a software issue ,have you tried doing a chkdsk repair .right click on the harddrive icon in mycomputer and go to tools and do it from there check of to fix errors

you trouble shot and found your problem and you are risking ruining your computer to find out more info on the net .Get that PSU out now before its to late .

When i put in the cd the drive is laboring

Get it to push, push ,push , oh sorry i thought you said it was in labor.

explain you problem ,so we don't have to read all the old post in this old thread that you have hijacked !

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

sorry what did you mean by 'what am i going to boot to it for if i am not goin to repair'?

if i use a boot disk (floppy disk), would it still be the same as rebooting witha windows XP cd?because i might just do that instead of repairing.

you were the one that said you wanted to boot to a floppy instead of the cd and doing a repair not me .

i dont quite understand what your trying to say, but my answer is i just want to fix my windows to make it genuine.

you will need to contact microsoft to buy a valid key to make it genuine

and about the screen resolution that i have right now... before i reformatted my comp, the screen resolution was normal (probably like everyone elses which is not too big, and not too small). oh.. and i have no vid card?.. but lemme check again, i might have checked for the wrong slot.

sounds like your video drivers need installing ,and the video card/controller is where the monitor pluggs in on the tower ,monitor wont display with out one .

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

I operate Windows XP Home Edition.
My Recyle Bin Icon is on the desktop and the folder is in My Computer. But I cannot access it.
Whenever I try to send a file to the Bin I get this message. "Cannot delete ---. The dir or file cannot be created."
This started a few days ago and I have tried various actions in "Safe Mode", several different virus scan programs. No luck.
Oh, yes. When I click on the Icon, the Bin opens but is empty. But when I go to System/Disk Cleanup, it says there is 1,953,722 Kb in the Bin but doesn't empty it!
Anybody have ideas?
Thanks.

give ccleaner a try ,see if it gets rid of the diskcleaner reporting that the bin has stuff in it .

the folder in mycomputer can you right click and go to properties ,does it show any amount as being in the folder .

the WinXP installation is fine because i have been using the same hardware/software for around 3 months max with no errors.

think as you may,but windows updates of late have been causing a log of problems with drivers and causing driver conflicts .hope you sort it out so you can get your projects done .good luck

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

ok i have the most recent BIOS update 29 December 2007, drivers... I shall look into that

usually booting the winxp cd and going to repair option and type in "chkdsk /r" with out the " will fix the driver conflict .

if this helps, i saw this in the event viewer but it only appeared in the event viewer when i turned on my pc, i didnt even have to go through the blue screen of death!

The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck. The bugcheck was: 0x0000008e (0xc0000005, 0xddf7ccaf, 0xefe98670, 0x00000000). A full dump was not saved.

PLEASE dont tell me this is a CPU/MOBO error since i just bought the CPU a few weeks ago and the mobo i cant really afford to replace for a while...

check the oxoooooo8e,section here .like it says usuall a hardware driver issue .or maybe you need a bios update .
http://aumha.org/a/stop.htm

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

so its a bad mobo, right?

sounds like it .does the power supply fan come on

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

maybe you should have check with his ISP first to see if problem was on there end.

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

echo echo echo

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

Is it possible that a motherboard fan will not spin because of a broken CPU? Or would it be the mobo's fault?

no,its either a bad fan or a bad power supply, and /or non-working motherboard, .no power going to fan .not the actual CPU

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

Two questions:

1. How do I route the audio to the sound recorder?

2. How do I keep the two processes from interrupting each other and stopping the film from playing, putting gaps in the recording?

if you have a mic ,put it near the speaker to record it when playing the taste less video .

i cant tell you wha t fils e to delete ,i can only tell you to back up the ones you want and then you can safely delete other users ,

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

go here[C:\Documents and Settings] on the c:\ drive and you will see all added users plus the admin acount .this is whre all mydocuments folders are stored for each user .

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

when you install winxp it creates a admin account and a user account with admin rights .,if i were you i would backup any important file and then you could delete all users i nthe control panel ,except the original ,you will not see the admin account that was created when winxp was first install ,just created user accounts .

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to get the computer to read the processor so I can install new drivers?

here i go again trying to learn more . but do tell me what drivers you need to load that care what cpu is in the computer ,i have never had that problem before with any windows os i've loaded .

I recently downgraded back to ME (kinda had it with Windows lately)

Me too !!!but i'll be darned if that would make me go back to ME.

For cpuid software try cpu-z ,http://www.cpuid.com/

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

Socket 479 was used for Pentium M (mobile) CPUs. So 479 pins is correct.

I learning something new everyday ,as always ,i did not know that !!
I once put a laptop cpu [might have been a s370 i forget ]in a desktop comp.not a M though,didn't know there was a difference

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

i think you mean 478 pin ,the make and model # of the laptop might help better than just the info on the chip

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

3gig p4 512 ram should be good enough to do work at school anyway !
