Re: Pretty much. And, at this point, as we move away from niche forums more towards tagging, I don't want to go the route of multiple database forums. | |
Re: You mean like "Recommended" in the bottom purple toolbar? It's automatically customized just for you. | |
Re: No, don't send any money without a signed lease. His account number and routing number appear at the bottom of every check he would ever write, so it's not exactly privileged information. If you send money to his account, it wouldn't necessarily be considered bank fraud and there's nothing a … | |

Re: Hi, I'm onfused what your question is? Is this a homework assignment? Please show effort and post your question, along with what you've tried before, in the C++ forum. | |
Re: Hi Doug, Welcome to DaniWeb! Firstly, the php-tags are unnecessary :) In the future, please indent your code, or use our Code button, to post code. Secondly, you are most likely getting that error because of the line `<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>`. Try replacing that line with this: `<?php echo '<?xml … | |
Re: > Congratulations for moderatorship. Now, you're supposed to have all the solutions, so tell me, is there a way to display threads by last post first in the new system ? There is not currently a way to do this and it is not currently on the todo list. It … | |
I've gotten a couple of reports lately that DaniWeb is crashing web browsers, but I can't duplicate this and don't know which browsers are involved. Can anyone confirm? ![]() | |
Re: It happens. Your ranking for particular keywords in Google is never a sure fire thing. Keywords get more competitive as time goes on. Be sure to constantly work on your backlinks, and always follow the best on-page SEO practices. | |
Re: When a spider indexes your site, it crawls its content to include in its index so it can be searchable. Optionally, search engines will store a cached version of each page in their index. Keep in mind that when a search engine caches a copy of a page, it's different … | |

Re: Going back to the original post, it actually is a form or spamming - it's called profile spam. These users register and then create forum signatures, which appear in their member profiles regardless of whether they post or not. The goal is to get a backlink to their site from … | |
Re: Reminds me of a bad clone of AskJeeves, which was targeted towards the non-tech saavy demographic as well. (I think I read a study somewhere that AskJeeves ranked as the primary search engine, even above Google, for housewives back in the day.) In fact, Ask.com dropped Jeeves specifically to lose … | |
Re: > How many people browse the 'parent forum'? A lot :) > Is it there as a catch-all for stuff that doesn't fit neatly into a specific subforum? Yes. ![]() | |
I added a new fade effect when hovering over ads. Does it make the ads more noticeable? Is it really annoying? If you accidentally hover over, you have to wait for the fade effect to go way. | |
Re: Alternatively, you can use Apache's mod_rewrite. I have used this so all forums and threads can be written as forum5.html and thread123.html, for example. Of course, I haven't taken the time to do this for all my pages. Perhaps I will when the new VB3 style is released :) | |
Re: Eeek, I'm really sorry you're experiencing problems on DaniWeb. As you browse around the site, is it keeping you logged into the system, or is it kicking you out with each pageview? I can't think of a reason why it would keep you logged in but only kick you out … | |
Hi, I'm completely desperate for some help. I am getting a handful of reports that DaniWeb keeps crashing the web browser. Most of these reports are coming in from Firefox. Supposedly the problem is fairly consistent. I *cannot* duplicate the problem no matter how hard I've tried. I spend a … | |

Re: This bug should be fixed now. Can you verify? Also, if you are anti-ad, I recommend you disable ads in your member profile. It makes the spots go away :) | |
Re: I think that you can successfully get all pages to rank in Google if you do it right. Ideally, you'd want each article to be hosted by a country-specific domain (i.e. site.com/page.html, site.es/page.html, site.jp/page.html, etc) and set Google Webmaster Tools to target a specific country for each domain. I would … | |
Re: Hi, Thank you for your feedback :) Firstly, however, what "purple line" do you keep referring to? What a lot of people fail to realize is that advertisers and publishers don't mind most ad blockers. Most advertisers pay either each time someone clicks on their ad or each time someone … | |

Re: I think I'm still confused why any additional functionality is required. How many use cases are necessary in which one would need to add backticks to inline code in such a case where using the backslash to escape the backtick is too inconvenient? Additionally, Markdown has been designed in such … | |
Re: 1. White hat seo is what is endorsed by Google. Black hat seo is when you use tricky tactics to fool google into ranking higher. 2. It's good to get quality backlinks from quality articles. 3. I don't think that directories do much nowadays. 4. It's good to promote your … | |

Re: Hi ... We are actually on an *entirely* new platform now, so it would take forever to go through a list of everything that's changed recently. I am sure that once you start browsing around a bit and posting, you'll find things are much more intuitive and easier! Unfortunately, at … | |

Re: I had no idea. Thanks for letting me know. Should be fixed now :) I was attempting to fix the problem that Firefox is randomly crashing for people and I guess I screwed this up in the process. It's soooo hard to diagnose a problem that I can't replicate! | |

Re: The system has to think you're on a mobile device, in which the bottom toolbar is disabled since it doesn't display correctly on the iPhone, iPad, and other devices. We're built on the CodeIgniter PHP framework and use CI's built in mobile detection based on user agents: $mobiles = array( … | |
