Sorry for late reply .. actually I didnt get a chance to get my hands on FreeBSD. But now I've done it ... I added my user to wheel user group and now I can login through root using su command. Thanks for the help. Thread Solved.

Check if your RAM is doing fine ... these types of errors are usually caused by faulty RAM. If you could just tell us the exact stop error code, it'll help diagnose the problem more closely.

Will IT events be specific to US or it'll be international?? It'll only do some good for me if the news cover Pakistan also ... and like me all the users will want the IT news for their own countries ... no doubt most of the users are from US .. but there're quite a number of people from around the world.

I just restarted the machine .. and then typed

#startx

After a while the screen went blank .. then I pressed ctrl-alt-backspace ... it came to the text mode and showed the following last two lines :

Okay what I did was this :

# cd /usr/ports/x11/xorg
# make install clean

And it installed without giving errors ... then I made the default configuration by

# Xorg -configure

and then tried this :

# Xorg -config xorg.conf.new

But I have a black screen without anything ... Whats the problem ... am I missing something ?

How can I bring the GUI mode of FreeBSD. In Linux (RedHat) I can just press Ctrl-Alt-F7 and the GUI comes up ... but FreeBSD doesnt work that way ... so how does it work ??

I am using FreeBSD 6 ... and I use putty to remotely login to FreeBSD ... But the problem is that I can login with all my logins except the root ... when I login through root it gives me an error :

server sshd[500] : error : PAM authentication error for root from backupserver.

What should be the cause ??

In that old golden days when daniweb used to be all purple, there used to be a check box right beside the login & password fields named "Remember me?" ... now it only comes when I enter a wrong password.

I think the check box should be readded to the top of the site where the login and password fields reside. Due to the nature of my work, I have to use the internet through different computers and the computers change frequently enough that I dont like my daniweb password to be remembered.

Is there any way to turn off remember me by default?

Go to internet options --> general --> settings ... confirm that "Automatically" radio box is selected.

If the copying process window is active then the copying will be faster. The strategy behind this tip is that windows by default gives more cpu time to the active application. I observed it when copying large amounts of data from one hard drive to another.

Open internet explorer .. go to tools --> internet options --> content --> autocomplete ... and make sure that forms is checked ..

I have installed Visual studio and then after that I installed msdn library from a network location on my of my client pcs ... but what I get is when I press F1, it says that the external help should be installed and then tells me to insert the msdn disk to install it. I dont know whats the problem???? Anybuddy else knows it ?

I'm not sure but you can use windows movie maker for this purpose .... and ofcourse Adobe premiere is a lot better and advanced tool for this purpose.

How did you remove your Canon S200spx BJ Printer?? did you uninstall it completely .... try installing it again and then uninstalling it completely from add/remove programs in the control panel.

Windows 98 can be installed on one system and run on another system. So you can install windows 98 from another system and run it on the original one ....

Delete the specific partition and then create it again ... then format it.

I suppose you just rewrote the folder which was already there when you copied it first. You can use any recovery software to recover the deleted files. First make sure you backup your remaining pics ...

AND have you got a "dustbin" in your pc ???? I've got a recycle bin in mine :D :D

I suspect you would have dragged your toolbar to some other location other than the default one. Just close the toolbar (the window with icons) and it'll come to its original location the next time you use your video software.

Tired of clicking "No" when you're copying something and the folder has already got the same items ?? The dialog box that opens telling us about the duplication of files or folders has four options : Yes, Yes to All, No and Cancel ... No "No to All" ... You can just press shift and click "No"... this will be equivalent to "No to All". Enjoy :D
