Reinstalling without a source of XP ??? its not possible in my books.

I think you deleted the previous windows which was on your primary drive ( usually C drive) .. you dont have to install windows again .. just insert your windows cd .. boot from it and do an automatic repair. It will recreate the NTLDR and other files that were deleted from your C drive.

You can also use the registry to change the default program files folder .. the registry key to alter is :

HKLM/Software/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/

Change the ProgramFilesDir key to what ever path you want.

But the recommended solution is to use a software to change the path like what goldeagle2005 suggested.. TweakUI.

First of all, your hijackthis log doesnot seem to be clean .. please post your latest log in our viruses and spywares section.

This type of error usually occurs with cpu overheating problem or a bad RAM. Check that your cpu is properly cooled and try changing RAM to see if your RAM is faulty or not.

Did it happen to your profile only ?? or if you're the only user try making another user account and logging into the account. If you see the start menu with the installed programs then you have your previous profile corrupted .. Try making a new profile.

There's a utility which fixes or reinstalls internet explorer and checks windows system files for integrety.. here's a link for the explanation and download of IEFIX.

You'll have to uninstall every software that your father installed .. and you can delete your father's profile and make a username of your own to start a new shiny windows ... thats the basic cleaning I'm telling you.

Right click your folder .. go to properties -- security -- advanced -- uncheck "inherit from parent the permission entries .." Then click add and add your user to the allow list ... and then select the owner tab and take ownership of the folder. Now access your folder. Most probably you can access it now .. Tell us about the results.

NOTE: You must be a member of Administrator's group to take ownership of the folder.

Mmm... not quite. While URL-to-IP resolution queries will be sent from the LAN workstations to the DNS server, the actual data packets to be transmitted (to the Internet) by the workstations will not pass to/through the DNS server. The DNS server simply responds to the workstations' resolution requests by passing the appropriate IP addresses back to the workstations; the workstations themselves are then responsible for establishing communication with their desired destination (which they do through the router, not through the DNS or DHCP server).

Oops!! I had the same thing in mind ... but my words drove you (and myself too when I read it again today) in the wrong direction. Very sorry about it.

When you add another system in your domain, the system will automatically pick up the dhcp server and an automatic ip will be assigned straight away, no hassels. Thats the advantage of dhcp.

Gateways are mainly for internet usage. When you set up a DHCP server, it'll ask you which gateway and DNS to assign to the computer asking for an IP. There you can assign the IP of your router as your gateway. All the traffic will still pass through your PC as it is also a DNS server and DNS queries will be sent to your PC.

Here's how we do it where I work. Just set up an alias for the ethernet port you want to apply multiple IP addresses to. Theoretically you could apply as many IP addresses to an ethernet port as you want. We typically have never used more than 4. We're also using RedHat Enterprise Linux Server v3/v4.

These files are located in /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts. Configuring these through the GUI utilities will work almost as well as manually editing the files yourself.

I have set one week old threads to be displayed in the forums in my control panel. Before daniweb upgrade, there was a sort function at the end of each forum .. so whenever I had to go farther than one week, I used the sort function. But now its gone, Is there any alternative to it or its there and I cant find it ????

If you want to fix column A and Row 1 then select Cell B2 and then go to Windows Menu and select Freeze Panes. It'll freeze the first row and the first column of your worksheet.
