Go to Dell and enter your service number to get the specs on your HD.
I like Tiger Direct for hardware purchases.

By the way, do you have any suggestions as to where I might get a replacement HD if this happens again? I'm going to make an image of the HD onto a USB Aux. HD just in case this happens again.

Thanks again.

Does this happen with any and all picture and music files?
If not, which ones are causing the problem?
What changes have you made recently? Have you done a Virus/Spyware scan?
Is your system up to date?
Look in Control Panel/Admin Tools/Event viewer for System or Application errors in red.

On this page:
http://www.computer.forums.central-forums.net/
In Dreamweaver I believe this can be seen in Code View
I'm not a php expert, but every page will need to reflect this change if you want them all to use this stylesheet.

The easiest way might be to copy style.css to your forum folder and change this line:

<link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="http://computer.forums.central-forums.net/Themes/babylon/style.css?fin11" />

To:

<link href="style.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" media="screen" />

Your other problem is a bad link:
This:
a href="www.central-forums.net"
Should be:
a href="http://www.central-forums.net/forums/#"
Note that your other menu links need to be changed also.
You can read more about how links are formed here:
http://www.w3schools.com/HTML/html_links.asp
I think I have all that right, but let me know if anything gets broken.

hughv 104 Veteran Poster

This line references the Style sheet for your Home:

<link href="style.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" media="screen" />

You show two stylesheets for your forum:

<link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="http://computer.forums.central-forums.net/Themes/babylon/style.css?fin11" />
	<link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="http://computer.forums.central-forums.net/Themes/default/print.css?fin11" media="print" />

The second one looks like a print stylesheet, so just change the relevant entries in the first one, or substitute the home style sheet.

Hey
I am facing the problem with internet sharing.
I have win 2003 STD server and I have 3 LAN cards are installed in the server.
And I want to use one LAN card for VPN second for local Area connection and third for internet main line.
Now I have configured remote and routing access service and that is working properly means you can access this server from anywhere.
And I want to share the internet from the same Server so I had shared the third one LAN card. And given the server's gateway to my node computers they can also able to use internet through this server.
But if I want block some sites and restrict uploading to particular users so how can I configure this in my 2003 server, so I can control all the traffic from the server and node's will get the pure internet from the server and also I can save my internet bandwidth.
(E.g. I want to restrict www.xyz.com to node computer and nodes are getting internet connectivity from server means where exactly where I put www.xyz.com so nodes will not able to access the site. And if I want to restrict this site only for 2 nodes but I want to give the access to other 3 nodes, so how can it possible.)

I don’t have any kind of firewall (hardware/software)

Best regards,
Manoj

Good job.
Uninstalling the driver would be OK. In Safe Mode it uses the VGA driver, and uninstalling would likely have forced the monitor to be detected so you could change the resolution.
Happy holidays.

hughv 104 Veteran Poster

Is the right monitor being detected?
Uninstall the Nvidia driver, reboot and reinstall.

And then, I found this:
SEC Report: Employees Browsed Porn, Ran Private Businesses

http://www.propublica.org/article/sec-report-employees-browsed-porn-ran-private-businesses-1219#When:17:01:11Z

"[Investigators] uncovered evidence that an employee who was still in his probationary period had used his SEC laptop computer to attempt to access Internet websites classified as containing pornography, resulting in hundreds of access denials. The OIG investigation also disclosed that this employee successfully bypassed the Commission’s Internet filter by using a flash drive."

I worked for the Feds back in the 70s and observed similar behavior first-hand.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20081217/ap_on_bi_ge/madoff_scandal

"Credible and specific allegations regarding Madoff's financial wrongdoing going back to at least 1999 were repeatedly brought to the attention of SEC staff, said Cox. Cox said he was gravely concerned by the apparent multiple failures over at least a decade to thoroughly investigate the allegations or at any point to seek formal authority from the politically appointed commission to pursue them."

"Gravely concerned?"
"Cox's critics said that targeting the staff was Cox's attempt to salvage his own reputation.

"He put in place the people he is now shifting the blame to," said Ross Albert, a former SEC senior special counsel, former federal prosecutor and now a private attorney in Atlanta.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., suggested Cox bears some of the responsibility for what went wrong.

"I served in Congress with Christopher Cox, but I don't think he's going to make the All-Star team," said Reid."

This is just the usual Fox/Henhouse syndrome, which is going to continue until some of these thieves start going to jail.
"The rich are different." That is, they buy the legislators who give them the laws and free passes they want. Nothing's going to change until true campaign finance reform makes it impossible to buy congress' votes. Don't look for that any time soon.

In the larger sense, I'd suggest some mandatory training with gun purchases.

What OS?
If XP, try recovery console. Fixboot may solve your problem.
In any case, I'd copy those files before doing anything else.
I don't think this is a hardware problem, as you can see the files and it passes the Seatoools test.
I don't think an image would help.

Apparently, you need a 64 bit driver that doesn't exist, so you're out of luck.

I see what you mean. The menu is so blocked I didn't even know it was there.
This is a very weird mix of HTMl and CSS that even includes some <Font> tags, inline styles, external styles, and image maps. Not to mention a .wmv file that needs a plugin(WTF?).
The W3C validator indicates 94 errors, for what that's worth, and the CSS validator just goes on and on.
I'd find a nice template and start over.

I've hear that most Drill Instructors, if given a choice, prefer to train someone who has no experience shooting. That way there are no bad habits to unlearn and they can train them as an adult from the ground up. Is this true? And is the training one receives from an NRA-style course or at a Police Academy helpful or hurtful to the way one trains soldiers for combat? Grim Jack pointed out in another thread that the needs of police/peacekeepers are often different and even counterproductive to those of the military in a combat zone. Or is shooting and shooting safety the same everywhere and all training helps no matter where it's from?

I worked for the US Treasury Dept. for a while (Sky Marshall), and the mechanics of weapons training are the same. Safety is paramount, and familiarity with the weapon is critical (Loading, location of safety, cleaning, etc.).
The big difference is in the ROE (Rules of engagement). In general a law enforcement officer is greatly restrained in the use of his weapon. The combat soldier usually has looser, and clearer, rules.
That said, this is one of the reasons our missions in Iraq and Afghanistan are such monumental failures. These missions are all too often closer to a law enforcement mission than a combat task, and soldiers don't generally receive this kind of training.
When I say "failure", I refer to the huge number of civilian casualties, which has likely created far more Jihadis …

I know 'like' is a personal choice but, jeeze, can you offer some support for such a radical (or should I say, reactionary) stand?

There are far too many idiots in these threads.
I detect that AIA is evolving. She's obviously well educated and thoughtful, if a little too harsh for my taste, but she's learned too hold back on the anger a bit, and seldom rises to the trolls any more. A worthy opponent is emerging.

Using toy guns is an excellent "teaching moment". It's far too easy to get a weapon with no training at all, and I suspect that's part of the reason for accidental shootings.
I took an NRA course before they turned into a Right-wing propaganda machine, and it was very good. It's possible the course is still good, but I haven't researched it.
I was later able to put all this training to good use in Vietnam, but I suspect, for most people, learning gun safety is just one of those learning experiences that accrue to the general, but not any specific, good.

More details:
What OS? Do you have a router (If not, get one to make this substantially easier). Do you need wireless access?

Why do you want to do this? Vista is a fine OS. If you're having problems with it, ask, and we'll help.
Have you found drivers for all your hardware? Some machines can't downgrade due to a lack of XP drivers.
What hardware do you have? XP doesn't recognize SATA drives, so you have to follow the "Press F6" prompt to install the drivers from a floppy, which you may not have.

Even if that were true we would still have a President -- The Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi would assume the duties (because the VP's term expires at the same time as the President's).

Sorry. What I meant to say is that this is a complete non-sequitor.
If the president's term expired on the 31st, the new president's term would begin on the 1st.
You're talking about presidential succession, which has nothing to do with the president's term.

hughv 104 Veteran Poster

Even nuttier than Grimjack's post.
That's like saying the Speaker of the House is president for three weeks every 4 years.
Let's read the Constitution, people!

hughv 104 Veteran Poster

It's a bad joke, the inauguration is on the 20th, Bush's term ends on 12/31 so that is almost 3 weeks w/o a sworn in president.

This poster may be Sarah Palin.
I can understand ignorance, but to think that the USA goes three weeks every 4 years without a president is hard to believe.
The presidential term expires on January 20th, at noon.

"popular vote = urban rule".
Do you mean the flat landers didn't decide the last two elections?
Of course not. This election is a reaction to the crimes and incompetence of the current administration
I have a problem with the fact that it's possible to lose the popular vote and still win the election. I'm in favor of an amendment to change to popular vote for presidential elections.

The "Theory" of evolution is based on scientifically tested, and testable, evidence. There are flaws, and much remains to be learned, but evolution is a fact, and those who wish to explore the literature will soon come to that conclusion.
Those "against" evolution might just as well be "against" gravity. Over time, natural selection will weed these unfortunates from the gene pool (and the work force) and the rest of us can go about our business.

"The only reason NT gets a lot more viruses is because its users are idiots."
I don't think this is quite right.
Windows is the system that most people use, and most people aren't as savvy as Unix users tend to be.
MS has failed to educate the user or secure the system (UAC is a huge failure because it's so intrusive).
I'm not an expert, but I prefer the Linux prompt that asks me, once, to run as root when I want to make a significant change.

In my experience most AV programs do their job well. Most of the infections I see come from users too ignorant or lazy to keep their software up to date. This happens even after repeated warnings from the program itself ("Your AV is out of date/expired", etc.)
Spyware is an even bigger problem.
I suspect most users handle this problem well, and most are well aware of the potential for problems, but you just can't help some people.
Our "Vampirical Moderator" has a point, but the conventional wisdom is that Unix/Linux have vulnerabilities, but aren't worth targeting because of the very small user base.
