Move over microsoft google is coming with an os soon that will put it in the kerb & free probably

I would say hands down xp for compatabilty issues.
Also do you have both operating system disc xp and your linux distro.
Do you need to do a fresh install of both the operating systems (don't forget to save all files and folders)
I at the moment have a dual partition pc with xp & g os installed on it
Thank you
Dave

HELLO
I would suggest booting your pc into your windows pc then going onto the drive where you wish to install the os and make sure it is empty (so you don't delete any important files etc) then reformat that partition and name it linux.
Once it has finished formatting that partition put your linux distro cd in and restart your pc and choose the drive that you named linux to install the operating system on.
Hope this helps
Dave

HELLO
I would suggest g os for a great linux operating system.
I tried ubuntu about 1 year ago a didn't like it.
I too myself have now switched over to linux from windoze and this is the best os i have used for new linux people.
It is still in the beta stages but windoze hasn't been right since they killed xp.
Just type g os up in google and it will be the first one
Hope this helps you out
Cheers
Dave

HELLO
Have you made sure it is not a codec error as i can be sure that windows media player can't find the codecs so it won't play the dvd.
My suggestion would be to try vlc media player it is 100 times better than wmp & has all the codecs intergrated into the program already so no need to be downloading loads of stuff.
I recently tried to play a dvd on a pc i tried 4 different dvd drives & in the end found it was windows media player.
I installed vlc media player then inserted my dvd in & it plays fine.
Give it a try mate.

For the life of me i can't understand why people still use internet agro 7 , no wonder you are having problems with your pc browser hijack , spyware , adware etc , try firefox mate you will wonder why you suffered for so long , its full of add ons & extensions & best of all a thousand times more safe & secure than the bill gates excuse of a browser.

Selwyn 0 Junior Poster in Training

gumtree maybe worth a go

Selwyn 0 Junior Poster in Training

yes you can

Selwyn 0 Junior Poster in Training

you could try the syste restore option in system properties.
It may work depending on what has happened to you pc

Selwyn 0 Junior Poster in Training

get firefox mate dont suffer with the ie agony

Selwyn 0 Junior Poster in Training

I had the same problem with a usb stick , the pc wouldnt boot with the usb stick in the front.
As soon as the usb stick was removed , it booted up fine , i think it happens on the older usb sticks , the newer ones seems to be ok.

Selwyn 0 Junior Poster in Training

If you have the xp disc you can install the os again after you have saved all your work and install xp with 2 partitions the sizes you would like.
This is a bit of a long way around but it will do the trick

HELLO THERE HACKERS BEST FRIEND
I Can show you websites all day long that shows you are pigeonholed into the bill gates ie excuse of a browser.
Choeckout this website
http://www.reenactor.net/main_htmls/why_ie_sux.html
Once you read that try this one
http://www.lockergnome.com/news/2004/06/15/why-you-should-dump-internet-explorer/
Dont get me started on vista
People why not just get Vista / IE7 & Norton & watch your system grind to a halt or plagued with virsuses within 6 months.

Selwyn 0 Junior Poster in Training

if you disable your firewall and open ie your opening a can of worms.
You will be plagued with problems.
Stick with firefox & firefox has a button at the top so you can view pages in ie for those times when you have no choice.

Selwyn 0 Junior Poster in Training

If you want a kick butt firefox get the fasterfox extension , it makes ie seem about as quick as a milkfloat with a flat tyre.

Selwyn 0 Junior Poster in Training

I can't believe how many people on here are still using internet explorer and wonder why there pc is having so many problems.
Do some homework people about the security risks with internet explorer.

forumdude123 commented: watever, ie is the best browser out there when it comes to security +0

hard drive regenerator is what you need
It will repair the drive (fixes bad sectors) so you can sort out your files

Selwyn 0 Junior Poster in Training

go into the bios and set it to boot from the disc , then do a complete fresh install of xp
reformat the disk (not quick format tho)
This should sort you out as long as you dont press the power button lol

I have fitted another pin and have rebooted it a few times and it seems to be ok.

HELLO AGAIN
Nero 7 & 8 are just a pain full stop / too much agro.
Like so much other software recently that has got a good reputation & they release a so called new improved version and it turns out to be worse than ever.

Selwyn 0 Junior Poster in Training

judgemental people that look at you down there nose

Selwyn 0 Junior Poster in Training

i have heard so many problems with nero 7 , it seems to be like vista bloated beyond useage.
I have nero 6 and it runs fine

Selwyn 0 Junior Poster in Training

make sure all your info is off of your external hard drive then reformat the harddrive in mac osx journaled and it should be all ok.
Or if you have a windows pc just reformat in in fat32 and the mac will see it no problems.
I have a 1gb flash drive that i do the same thing with and it works fine.

Selwyn 0 Junior Poster in Training

fat 32 is ok / ntfs is a no go

Selwyn 0 Junior Poster in Training

There is no defrag option on osx.
I would just reinstall osx operating system on the machine.

Selwyn 0 Junior Poster in Training

See if there is any info on the memory that you have in the computer at the moment as regards to speed , is it the same as the one you just bought.
As other members have stated see what the top speed of memory your motherboard will handle.

Selwyn 0 Junior Poster in Training

you could try taking out the c mos battery out of the motherboard for a minute this may do the trick.
Also see how much memory the pc states with only one stick of ram (try it with both sticks) , it maybe a faulty memory stick).
Cheers

Selwyn 0 Junior Poster in Training

Following on from what bobbyraw mentioned.
If it is listed in disk management , rick click on your flash drive and choose format (this will if it works properly will erase all data etc off the drive).
Then format it in fat32 which has the added bonus of being read by mac and windows hust out of interest.
I have a few flash drives but format them in fat32 most of the time as the size is very small compared to pc harddrives which are normally formatted in ntfs format.
Cheers

HELLO
A good peace of software that i use is harddrive regenerator which can be bought in most shops on the internet for about 30 or 40 pounds.
Place the hard drive regenerator disc in the cd dvd drive and boot from the disc and it will repair all your bad sectors on your harddrive and you will still have all your data on the hard drive too.
Here is the website it http://www.downloadatoz.com/hdd-regenerator
Don't bother with the free version as this will only repair the first bad sector , the full version is what you are after.

Selwyn 0 Junior Poster in Training

HELLO AGAIN
Here is the website you need for harddrive regenerator http://www.downloadatoz.com/hdd-regenerator

I have just found an awesome video conversion tool & had to spread the word.
Check out any video converter at http://www.any-video-converter.com
I have never seen a freeware application that is this good.
So many others that charge 30 or 40 quid , you don;t need them this does the lot for free.

Selwyn 0 Junior Poster in Training

Also you can right click on my computer click on manage , then go down to the bottom and click on disc management.
See if it is in the list if it is and it say unallocated just right click on it and press format.
Assign it a drive letter and then format it and at the top once it is formatted in the status column it sure say healthy active.
Now on into my computer and the hard drive should be there under the name and drive letter you chose.

Selwyn 0 Junior Poster in Training

yes mate i agree.
Hard drive regenerator is what you are after kevin , it will repair any bad sectors on the hard drive and you will be able to use the hard drive with no problem.
I have used this software on 3 or 4 hard drives myself and it works every time.
If the hard drive has got a lot of bad sectors it removes them completely , but this is only in bad cases.
Give it a go mate.
Also sorry to say but i have found that the majority of problem hard drives are by maxtor , western digital i would say are one of the best hard drives

Selwyn 0 Junior Poster in Training

HELLO
All sorted now removed all the partitions as above & installed leopard

Selwyn 0 Junior Poster in Training

I use ads tech dvdexpresdx2 for all my video capture needs , and i recommend it highly.
Also as a bonus avi to mpg converter built into it.
I tried a video capture by pinnacle and it slowed my pc down entirely to the point of it taking 1 minute to open a web page & also the software came on 3 discs.

Selwyn 0 Junior Poster in Training

for a media player i use both windows media player and vlc.
If one dosent play the file the other one will.
VLC is available for both mac and pc & is great.

Selwyn 0 Junior Poster in Training

how about promoting more battery powered cars that do a top speed of 70 mph.
That would be good for the ozone layer & less on speeding fines to pay out too.
Like most things in the world it is all found out that it is bad years down the line when the damage has been done allready , but we will be paying for it till we die.

Selwyn 0 Junior Poster in Training

looks like your mcdonalds car is going to die from cholestral very soon mate lol

Selwyn 0 Junior Poster in Training

HELLO
I think i have sorted it !
What i did was format a external 20 gig hard drive in fat32 on my windoze pc (you can format any hard drive under 32mb in fat32 & macs can read and write from it)
Then i will be able to erase the original mac mini harddrive & install leopard in mac os extended (journaled) & then do a complete erase & install of leopard.
I will let you know how i get on.
In the process of it right now

Selwyn 0 Junior Poster in Training

HELLO
I would like to know how i do a complete fresh install of mac leopard on my man mini.
It says in the disc utility that it is a 80 gig harddrive & come up as 74.8 , i know this is normal but i just want to make sure there isnt any old stuff on the hard drive before i install leopard.
Any help would be great
Thank you
D

just the whistling noises of the fan on the cpu thats all i can hear

Selwyn 0 Junior Poster in Training

vista is well known for having compatability issues for so many devices because basicly there are very few drivers for the majority of devices on the vista os at the moment.
If you have a copy of xp it will work all day long , its vista that is the problem.

Selwyn 0 Junior Poster in Training

is the jumper setting on the hard drive on the master setting.
also once you have laoded xp on the pc and its all done make sure you set the bios to boot from the hard drive and not the cd rom drive
