I just checked my W10 here and did not find a hand cursor in C:\Windows\Cursors

Why not reuse and upgrade what you did before at https://www.daniweb.com/programming/software-development/threads/439391/fetch-students-marks-in-database-and-say-who-is-1st-2nd-3rd

Can you reveal why you've been puttering about this for so long? Is this a new assignment?

This is a long shot but I wonder if the Personal.xlsb is in play. See the idea on that at:

The fastest way is to click the hamburger (top Daniweb bar to the right of search) and in that sea of blue on the right column at the bottom is Area 51.

While I can research like this: https://www.google.com/search?q=seo+path+analysis I usually find such an opening question to be a shill question and non-genuine.

Why ask such an opened ended question?

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

In fact, just a few weeks ago 2.x.x got a security update. You'll want to have that if you stick with 2.x.x. But a quick read of the differences don't seem so bad. Most of what folk do, from what I've seen won't matter.

Here's my view or method. When I start a new project I step forward my dev tools at that time. Then I stick with that unless there's a burning reason to change (or there's $$,$$$+ at stake.)

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

Wasn't Python 2.0 released in 2000? 3.0 in 2008? That's sufficient time IMO to ignore older versions and unless you are paid to do something on 2.x, I'd go with 3.

Since it's a interpreter and a quick look seems to find what differs I'd move again to 3.5.x (latest.)

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

That's the beginning of your spec for the app you want to write.

The next step is to break it down to smaller steps as well as get an overall design to the app.

Once the steps are small enough you write the code for the step and then work on another step. When you get all the steps done then you test this app.

-> I see new folk post like this and expect others to respond with code and a finished app. At least you didn't ask for that.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

That was on a myth list. The myth was "Nofollow Links Will Hurt You Rankings: They won’t unless you are spamming at a huge scale."

So don't spam and it's fine.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

@Dani. Maybe it's time to make a break for it? That is, rather than stick with a model you write is not a good business, just head straight up to your new world?

I can't see what that is yet and I'm guessing it's a LinkedIn spin but I haven't read enough of what the new ideas are yet. The changes so far are leading up to something. I can feel it.

So why not use minDate and maxDate?
Example: http://jsfiddle.net/8w8v9/1748/

I did not tailor it to exactly your needs. But you can do that.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

The thing is, I don't see this being a standard in the system you are asking about. Maybe I'm missing it but the app version number is something we decide on when we begin a project. I can't tell you how to do this since on each project we let the owner of the project tell us how they want to run the version numbers.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

Take a moment and post how you solved this. I was going to comment why I thought the code was slow. Deleting rows like that would be sluggish.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

http://jsfiddle.net/GoranMottram/8w8v9/ was where I tested if 2019-06-30 worked or not.

It worked OK. Maybe I don't understand your question.

I would be guessing that you want someone to code your date restriction or test.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

The thing is, this Dell can be configured to have a bios password so it's not broken. Google up this.
Dell Optiplex 780 Documents.

In the manuals should be instructions on how to use your PC and how to reset this machine/bios password.

Nothing needs fixing. It only needs to be configured to your desires.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

Actually this is part of a broader discussion. One of the things found lacking in the Web (for this I'll keep it to pages show in a web browser) was pagination. There has been some movement on this. Pick over the priors with thise search:
https://www.google.com/search?q=pagination+in+printing+from+the+web

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

You didn't ask a question. Your post has a title and a code dump but nothing else. I take it you are just sharing.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

And with that I guess you burned though a few keyboards this year.

Thanks for clarifying all the above and here's hoping those logins get simpler.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

Dropdown on the iPhone. Yes I've used this before but this iPhone 5s on iOS 9.3.2 (I see 9.3.3 is out) on Safari had the list showing a blank space below so I would not have guessed what that meant. I tried this about 5 times and on the fifth time the first items on the list showed up and then I knew it was a picklist.

About the fill out the form on my desktop. It never asked and I don't see where to do that at the moment. I took a look at my profile and these items were not there. So I went to edit my profile and the headline I put into the iphone did not match what I found on edit my profile.

I guess the iPhone+Safari is just a weird thing to use on the web. I do have an iPad too but to test what the OP was asking, I reached for what was closest.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

Huzzah. I got logged into DW on my iPhone. I'm going to get a cookie now.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

OK, I get it. DaniWeb is changing. To get into the system there is now a test for me to log in. If I'm smart enough then I'm in?

https://www.daniweb.com/welcome/about writes about making it simple but this login on my phone has me stumped. Good thing I could log in here.

OK, I'm really trying to log in from my iPhone. I filled in the Headline and got stuck on the What Industry box. I just could not type a thing there. Again the test of how smart I am? After a minute of futzing trying to type in the box something changed and I see some odd list on the bottom of the screen I've never seen before on any site. It's some sort of pick list. Try to trudge forward.

This is far to high a barrier to entry.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

Just tried it. I went to log in from my phone and can't remember all those field values. So I can't get in from my phone.

This may be another factor why it feels like there are less and less posts than usual.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

Can you narrow down where the issue is? Dumping close to 100 lines of code for a system that others may not have is asking a lot.

Tell what line of code you think it is.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

I'm of two minds on this. Why bother and then why not encrypt if you must?
As this encrypting is on the web I'll defer to the web and give you a starter link.

I have a friend that struggled and lost so much time on this. He would ask me question after question and had his heels dug firmly in on Eclipse. Here I'm using Google's own Android Studio and didn't have the issues he was having. It took months but he finally relented and moved off Eclipse. Maybe you need to move too?

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

That's a fine clue. It either tells us the system it failed in has a hardware issue or the WIndows install is incompatible.

For example I can get Windows to BSOD if I change say the BIOS SATA from AHCI to IDE Emulation. Does that code tell me that I did that? No.

PS. Added with edit. Moving a HDD with an installed Windows is never a sure thing. I don't know if you know this.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

I didn't ask because many won't reveal secrets so I was hoping to see if there was any new firmware for any of the parts involved. Remember while I've seen this, it doesn't apply due to it was years ago and you have quite different generation gear.

Looks like you just get to file a bug report. Remember the words race condition.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

On the far outside chance. Did you check if all SSD drives have their firmware current? I don't see this detail in your post.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

That's all well and good but how about making it modern? That is, why must it have a convert button at all? If one were to respond to changes in the entry boxes then it would be instant conversion from F to C and so on.

Think mobile, phone users.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

For support I often have to know this to test the name server and then compare results to other name servers.

In this case this information is needed to propagate details. So another good reason to share.

Now how do you explain to folk that I can't exploit your PC's IP address of 192.168.0.10?

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

This had me remember a product that does command line exports. Just adding this in case it would help.
http://www.onenotegem.com/onenote-batch-command-lines.html

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

This is why I think you report it as a bug. As you may or may not know some code may have race conditions and you may have uncovered such a bug.

OR it's just something in the code of the controller. To test that out you change out the motherboard for another model.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

That code is just that. It does not mean "it's the second memory chip in slot 2" or much else. You can google that code and see if anything matches. But here's the thing. I see a lot of folk share that code, or maybe a dump. Sad news is that it's rarely if ever helped me fix their PC.

I always have to get into what their PC is made of and then, maybe I can guess what it is.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

OK, that's clearer. I take it you are a seasoned networker and Windows Guru. You need to check the ACL of the user of what you are calling the server Desktop FOLDER. As you know this folder exists in each user's home directory and to copy to the desktop (which is a very bad idea due to how I can blow up your account by copying in one file&!!) so you need to check that the user that is copying in has rights and is in the ACL. Or you can just write fudge it and add the Guest account to the user list (ACL again.)

&!! = Hey, Microsoft never fixed that lockup issue in over 2 decades. So if you want to run with scissors here and let one wrong file in this folder blow up your business, who am I to tell you it's a bad idea?

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

Remember that I'd have to know a few things. To me, drop to desktop means in this context to drop to the user's Desktop folder. I was in Redmond long ago to show what I thought was a bug. That is, copy certain files to the Desktop and Windows would lock up on login. Microsoft's answer back then was "don't do that." Maybe they fixed so that network shares can't be that folder?

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

That's not a good sign if you BSOD on the other OS. You've flashed to the latest so something's up. Try one last time with the old tech trick. That is, one stick of RAM and see what happens. Sadly I don't think it's the controller yet but clues are sparse and others have done RAID with SSD.

Let me broach the old RAID 1 didn't save us topic. In 2 decades I have only seen pain in RAID 1. For some reason folk get the idea if they RAID 1 they don't need a full backup. Odd thinking there. And many RAID 1's don't work as we used to expect them to. That is, you unplug one drive and it keeps working or more.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

So this is 8.5? Did you file a bug report?

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

Actually that sounds right. The Desktop folder should be protected for many reasons. One example I gave Microosft years ago was how to lock out an user by placing a corrupt jpeg on the Desktop. Maybe they finally got around to fixing that in the usual way.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

I think you need to check http://php.net/manual/en/function.htmlspecialchars-decode.php here.
IOW, echo ($var) should do.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

For line 11, did you try
s.listen(10)

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

Then you'll have to do what I had to do years ago. Export the set to a temporary table, use some SQL command to change the date to a string and if null, try 0/0/0 which you can test in your report. After the report, I drop the temp table.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

@OP, it seems to work in VS2008 C# on W7 and W10 using the example at http://stackoverflow.com/questions/14306048/controling-volume-mixer

Now that each app can mute and be volume controlled, well, it's complicated.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

OK, how about 2 reports? You have some SQL command to select the set you want to report on so one report for when the dates have nulls and the other report for non-null dates.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

I was wondering the same recently and was looking to see if the app was muted. So I used this google.
https://www.google.com/search?q=GetApplicationMute+c%23

The first hit has an example to GetApplicationVolume() as well.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

I'd also ask in the Oracle forum such as Don did at https://community.oracle.com/thread/3949866

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

I have a few answers. If you could write it in one line of code, that would show some advanced skill level. Also, if someone wrote Tic Tac Toe in a few million lines that would show another skill or lack there of.

That is, the size of the code varies with the goal and the coder's skills. So there is no correct answer to "how big."

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

Share the PHP that has the "Chris & Army" text string in it so folk can see what's going on.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

I think this is how most folk learn that backups are not optional.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

This would test your network skills. There is no short answer here. That is, you would have to add routes to the host's routing table and that's specific to your setup.

Most of the time this fails because the two LANs use the same IP range. If you have no idea of this area, you have about a year of study ahead of you. I have yet to find a shortcut unless you get a network guru to set it up and maintain it for you.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

I meant to write "learn them all" which is like "catch them all" as the Pokemon Go craze is in full swing here.

As to the two weeks, I kid you not. And yes I've been in many engineering positions and the only old new thing is that some think apps will only take two weeks given all the advancements over the years. The consultant label is tossed at me when they want to well, I would be guessing it has to do with health insurance and the ability to tell me goodbye at any time.

That goodbye is something you have to be at ease with. There have been so many projects over the years.
