We've already gotten to know each other, but still..Hi

goldeagle2005 33 Finkus Stinkalotus Team Colleague

gaaa. no other mods/admins are interested in this poll? You guys have shattered my confidence levels. sigh....

goldeagle2005 33 Finkus Stinkalotus Team Colleague

Wait a sec...does the list of drivers being loaded display on screen? If this is true, your system is starting up in safe mode. When doing this, after loading some drivers, the system does appear as though nothing is happening, while it is. Don't worry. Let the boot process continue. If after 5-10 minutes too nothing happens, restart the computer.

goldeagle2005 33 Finkus Stinkalotus Team Colleague

Glad you could resolve your issue...

goldeagle2005 33 Finkus Stinkalotus Team Colleague

You can also set the NTFS permissions such that one OS cant access the drive of the second one.

I thought NTFS permissions are stored on the disk itself. If you set deny permissions in one OS, the same permissions will apply to the other OS too. For example, if you have XP on C: and D:, and if you set deny permissions to D: from the OS installed in C:, you will not be able to even boot the OS installed in D:. The same applies the other way too. I don't think NTFS permissions are the way to go in this case. Best bet is to remove the drive letter from disk management.

goldeagle2005 33 Finkus Stinkalotus Team Colleague

FAT32 is your hard disk's file system. A file sustem is what determines how the OS stores data. Regarding your question about checking for inconsistencies, you don't have to worry about that. This happens when invariably a logical error occurs on the disk. Windows then runs the chkdsk (Check Disk) utility to resolve these errors. 99% of the time, Windows does resolve these errors and you don't have to do a blamed thing. However, sometimes, due to a failing disk, bad sectors develop. These are physical errors and cannot be fixed. Windows instead marks these sectors as bad and does not use them for storing data. If this does happen, Windows will notify you. So relax, and if you see the chkdsk screen again, let it complete. It will not harm your system in any way.

Glad to help, buddy.

goldeagle2005 33 Finkus Stinkalotus Team Colleague

That's where wearable computers come to the rescue.

goldeagle2005 33 Finkus Stinkalotus Team Colleague

>>Err.. you are getting it all wrong.
Dude, I was just kidding.

About the spell trouble bit, well yeah you're right. But then again, that's what the Geek's Lounge is for.

goldeagle2005 33 Finkus Stinkalotus Team Colleague

Thats what i intended to say, i definately agree but with other reputable people around....

What're you trying to say? That you don't agree with me? I think I've just been insulted...

goldeagle2005 33 Finkus Stinkalotus Team Colleague

Err.. of course he wouldn't but looking at the way this thread is shaping up from "Your favourite beverage" to "Wolfpack making friends with Indians" Dani or some SuperMod would definately ban us all including wolfie :)

Such deviations from topic tend to lend some character, wouldn't you agree?

goldeagle2005 33 Finkus Stinkalotus Team Colleague

Oh...guess I'll have to sweet talk her out of it if she ever decides to ban me.

goldeagle2005 33 Finkus Stinkalotus Team Colleague

You wouldn't do that, would ya pal? Buddy. Chum. Overall nice guy....

goldeagle2005 33 Finkus Stinkalotus Team Colleague

Actually I have met her after she was crowned Miss World back in '94. She was doing some promotion and was in our locality. If only I'd known about your demand that time, I would've kept her with me. Ah well. Time to go to other sources. DANIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII.........................

goldeagle2005 33 Finkus Stinkalotus Team Colleague

Damn. Nect time, I'll try flattery. And if that doesn't work, booze. And if that doesn't work, then a bribe...

Oh while you're gone, can I borrow your moderator powers? :cheesy:

Where you headed, Wolfie?

The london bombings were bad enough, but did you guys follow the eight serial blasts that took place in Mumbai? The police have arrested some people so far and guess what: they turn out to be 20-25 year old muslims who have been so brainwashed by propaganda that they can see nothing else. Osama and his croonies may be singing and partying at this mindless destruction. But what about the families of the people killed in these blasts? What about the newly married girl who lost her husband on the second day of their marriage? Hell, what about the aged mother who lost her only wage-earning son? I say talks should go on. I'm a firm believer in that. However, terrorist camps, especially in Pakistan (Im not ranting here. The FBI has evidence of such camps too) should be dismantled ASAP. So should the camps in India (yes, we have a few too) Once you can get the extremists and their propaganda spreading institutions out of the way, I'm pretty sure peace talks will be successful.

HOw about adding a system where the mods grant rep to the members based on how many competent responses they provide?

It must be on top of the keyboard...

goldeagle2005 33 Finkus Stinkalotus Team Colleague

Did you try replacing the battery? It's possible the battery may have worn out after a year...

goldeagle2005 33 Finkus Stinkalotus Team Colleague

Actually, Ive had this problem happen to a friend's computer. Turned out his HD was kaput. You could try removing all non-essential devices and see if the system powers up. If it does, re-connect all devices one by one to see which device is faulty. If the computer doesn't start even then, post what you've done here and we'll go from there.

goldeagle2005 33 Finkus Stinkalotus Team Colleague

Someone offended the Wolf. Take cover everyone...

goldeagle2005 33 Finkus Stinkalotus Team Colleague

You dont have to re activate everytime if you reinstall the OS on the same computer. Follow these stepa:

1. Double-click My Computer
2. Double-click on the "C" drive
3. Go to the C:\Windows\System32 folder
4. Find the files "wpa.dbl" and "wpa.bak" and copy them to a safe location.
5. After you have reinstalled Windows XP on your reformatted hard drive, click "No" when asked if you want to go ahead and go through the activation process
6. Reboot your computer into SafeMode
7. Double-click My Computer
8. Double-click on the "C" drive
9. Go to the C:\Windows\System32 folder
10. Find the file "wpa.dbl" and "wpa.bak" (if it exists) and rename them to "wpadbl.new" and "wpabak.new"
11. Copy your original "wpa.dbl" and "wpa.bak" files from your floppy disk, CD or DVD into the C:\Windows\System32 folder
12. Restart your system

I dont know. A friend of mine bought an ACER lappy and she's had a nighmarish time with it. First, the HD crashed causing her to lose data. She got the HD replaced as it was in warranty. Oh, and the warranty was only for 6 months. And this when she bought it from an authorised ACER showroom. After 9 months, her combo drive failed and she's currently ODD-less. I've had bad experiences with ACER. I for one wouldn't go for their lappy...

And henceforth, avoid KaZaA. Full of spyware.

goldeagle2005 33 Finkus Stinkalotus Team Colleague

Did you try Dell Tech Support? Pretty sure they ought to be able to help you.

Otherwise, try removing the RAM sticks and then try powering the system. Does it beep at all? Also, when you switch on the system, do the fans rotate?

goldeagle2005 33 Finkus Stinkalotus Team Colleague

I'm sorry. Did you say the CPU is soldered to te board or the battery?

goldeagle2005 33 Finkus Stinkalotus Team Colleague

Thanks.

goldeagle2005 33 Finkus Stinkalotus Team Colleague

This happens to me when certai USB devices (like the iPod in my case) are plugged in during POST. All I do is disconnect the iPod and reboot. The system gets back to normal then. Try disconnecting all USB devices (except keyboard/mouse ofcourse) and see if the problem recurs...

goldeagle2005 33 Finkus Stinkalotus Team Colleague

wait a sec...where's the original post in this thread?

goldeagle2005 33 Finkus Stinkalotus Team Colleague

There is no such issue with the 754 Athlon64s not supporting SLI. All you need is a 754 board with two PCI-E slots and you're good to SLI. Ofcourse, you'll also need two identical graphics cards.

Now, to answer each of your question

a. Am i better getting a new cpu processor like 939 for driver availabilty for sli.
b. Get a mobo that only has 1 pcie port and that will do me for the 754 pin.

No need. Your current processor's fine

c. Get the 754 pin sli board and you will find the old drivers for it. 40 quid plus a pcie card until i get another video card for sli mode

Get the SLI board. The latest SLI drivers are released by nVidia directly and you can download the latest ones off of www.nvidia.com

goldeagle2005 33 Finkus Stinkalotus Team Colleague

Weird problem. Did you try clearing the CMOS? This could be an incorrect setting in the BIOS. Resetting the BIOS should help.

goldeagle2005 33 Finkus Stinkalotus Team Colleague

Naah. I already got a job at Dell...though I did mention that I was an active member of this community.

goldeagle2005 33 Finkus Stinkalotus Team Colleague

What about Post Master?

That's just wrong....

goldeagle2005 33 Finkus Stinkalotus Team Colleague

58760 voters? Already? Shocking, considering I set up the poll about 3hours ago. Also, did I really add the last option? Think think...no I didn't. gaaaah...Now that's just plain abuse of moderator power :D.

India has a lot of opportunities for IT jobs. You could try your luck here. And I don't just mean Call Centers. There are a number of hi tech projects going on in companies like Infosys, i-Flex, Hexaware etc. You could upload your resume to some Indian job sites like www.naukri.com, www.monster.com and www.timesjobs.com. Good luck.

I agree. I once went on a week vacation without my ipod, cell phone and laptop. The withdrawal symptoms started right during the journey. The six hour train ride was hellish. I was tossing and turning throughout. My hands would automatically reach out for the absent ipod. I somehow killed the time reading magazines and looking out the window. When I reached my cousin's place, it turned out their internet connection was on the fizz. One week of sheer torture. The cafes weren't any good as the connection was too slow to get any real work done. God, I don't know how I survived. I always make it a point now to carry atleast the iPod with me...
