no , of corse not ,what os are u running ,how old is the game ,was it developed for win98 or winxp maybe and you are trying to run it on Vista .
before you click on the exe to run the game ,right clcik on it and choose ,properties/compatibility,and choose different windows os maybe or even choose different display properties

try memtest86 to check the ram for errors

also if you have another computer in the house you could remove hdd from bad computer and install in other as slave to get the pictures off ,if no other computer ,remove hdd and take to computer repair shop and they could copy your pictures for a small fee.
hdd=hard disk drive

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

stop using IE, and get Firefox, www.firefox.com
also give the computer a full scan with this program .www.malwarebytes.org, after the scan click show details and fix what it finds ,and then use this program .if you haven't all ready done so .www.ccleaner.com

try chkdsk /f ,from the recovery console repair when you boot computer from the winxp cd.

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

try unistalling the program ,then make sure it never left a folder in program files on the harddrive .if so delete it ,then run ccleaner to remove dead registry entries ,run the registry scan 2 or 3 time to make sure all is gone .then try reinstall,might help might not

But for bigger disasters - MoBo failure, fire, deadly virus, worm, a separate hard drive in the same computer will be as useful as dental floss in a beer-drinking contest.

When I choose ANY option, including safe mode, it shows the windows loading screen, the mouse pops up and I can move it but the screen stays blank

try to do alt+ctrl+del ,and see if you can get the windows task manager up .if yes ,try ,file new task and type in ,explorer.exe and see if it will bring the desktop back

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

try f8 on bootup and go into safe mode .then uninstall one or the other
