how to change the HP bio's file name to bios.wph to copy to the disk files already created on the disk.

thats easy part of the whole thing i think .
you download the hp flash utility and correct bios file .they should come together in a zip ffolder , unzip the files to desired working loacation like your desktop. then right click on the hp bios file and chose change name and type in bios.wph,hit enter to make changes .
if we were at same hp forum the one whre first post was made in 2005 by IFF,then he has an attachment file for you to download to help in creating cricess recover disk .do that ,then just copy/past or drag and drop the flash tool and the renamed bios file to the floppy ,by simply opening the floppy in windows explorer nad dragging files from desktop to floppy

edit ,i downloaded the attachment and it has his bios update for his model and the flash utility and will when you run it create the floppy needed
still not clear if this is what he i refering to a crices recovery disk
did you use the suggested method of seeing if your laptop has the abbility to do this ,by hitting the FN key and B key or windows key & B

I read this many yrs ago! and will quote what i read ,

so if computer had a bad flash ,there is no instructions in the bios anymore ,therefor computer will no boot until bios chip is replaced with one with correct info

edit:!did a google search and i guess my quote is out dated for some laptops and some bios makers

go to file/new and type in explorer.exe and hit enter

you need to remove hard drive and slave it into a working coputer ,eithor by putting it inside the tower or by using a usb external drive case

hi, to complicated for me too,but its my understanding that if it had a bad flash its not going to work anyway, as it needs a good working bios to be able to boot to a floppy drive or and drive for that matter

Hello...I'm researching a project. I'd like a Win7-Pro with two monitors. Then I need to open two IE windows in kiosk mode, one on each monitor.

I know I can do iexplore -k http://site.com but I wonder about the second instance on the other monitor.

I don't have the hardware yet to test this, so I'm hoping someone here can let know whether it's possible or how to do it.

front of the drawer ,should have icon like dvd-rw or dvd multi recorder or RW wit hdvd-recorder under it if it a dvd recorder , if its just a cd-rw and dvd reader it will have a icon that says DVD -ROM
in that case ,Rom= read only memory therefor its not a dvd burner

Manufactorers made it where XP and before is NOT recognized on these machines. they will trick the OS to think there is no HDD.

never heard that one before ,what make and model is it ,see it done all the time,but just end up with xp and no xp drivers for devices,so have to put vista back on[we now make sure that maker has xp driver before we try ] at repair shop i help out at .

hi ,try going to device manager and open[hit the +] the usb device section bottom of the list ,uninstall all listed and reboot vista to have vista reinstall device drivers and try you device again

hi, its likely a sata harddrive and winxp need sata drivers install before it can see the drive ,this is done by hitting f6 dure winxp first boot to install it ,but you need the drivers on a floppy disk to install them .
having said that you can set bios something like this .
AHCI enabled system by changing BIOS setting to disable AHCI (or RAID which includes AHCI in its functions) and use native SATA IDE emulation mode

first all i can say is what i read i rarely flash bios ,for good reasons ,
the bios you buy would have to be exact for you model,and it may be hard to attach new one ,from there i don't know what to tell you except check with laptop maker

There was an issue with the sound which apparently the update would have taken care of. I think I may try to get a motherboard on eBay for super cheap just for a learning experience.

lets say i own a asus motherboard model #123456 , it is possiable to buy new bios chips with the defauld settings for model # 123456 and remove old one and solder on new one and make the board works again ,now that is just in theory ,weather there is one for your model motherboard is not something i know for sure .and if so how hard it would to repair it

thought so ,we/they only flash bios if its going to fix an issue laptop was having with some hardware .
i think it would cost more to repair than its worth ,good luck with buying a new one

the last thing I was updating was the BIOS and the screen froze

are you saying you were flashing[updating to latest version ] the bios and it froze in the middle of it ,or were you just making some [setting defaults ]changes in the bios .

if you were flashing and it failed you are in trouble and will need to replace bios chip[not a easy task ] ,or motherboard

from what i remember the last drivers i used to install, the vaio event center, shared library and control center were vista drivers. one of them might have been an xp driver, can't really remember for sure. But if it was, I ran it in compatibility mode with admin access. such a pain in the arse, all over brightness control lol. plus the auto-arrange in windows explorer is annoying to me. Thinking of just giving up on win7 for now.

when i first installed win7 i had a ,ATI readon 9200 video card and no Vista or win7 drivers,so i ran winxp driver in compatibility mode and it worked for a bit but started acting up,i bought a new card with win7 driver
so what im saying is its not realy win7 fault it your laptop makers for not having win7 driver for it !

you do have a wireless router near by for it to try and connect to correct ,
not positive but i think working with ipconfig will help your situation .

when I press Esc key ( not F2 or F10 as in the case of my laptop) to enter BIOS for setting boot order, the system hangs forever till I remove the CD from internal or External DVD-ROM, then it will continue rebootint itself.
Any help appreciated.

As gerbil said ,plus ,because they are so compact laptop heatsinc and fans get dusty fast,therefor overheat quickly causing the fan to run more often,a simple 10$ can of compressed air and blow out the fan and heatsinc

sounds like driver problem to me ,not all devices have win7 drivers and are trying to use winxp or vista drivers

you could try thing like removing ram,hdd,and maybe try a new power plug

sounds like the charger stopped working ,and battery died ,you need to use a multimeter and see if the charger is putting out any power ,if you don't have a multimeter take the charger to a computer repair shop and have them check it for yo u

My system config:
Intel p4 - 2.26GHz processor.
Microstar international MotherBoard 845 GV chipset model ( MS 7057)
512 MB RAM
40 GB Segate IDE HDD

HDD is attached as primary IDE on motherboard
DVD drive is master & Cd drive is slave on secondary IDE
NO SATA on my motherboard
the computer always freezes during POST. I see the following:

Main processor: processor info
Memory Testing: Ram info
Memory Information: shows frequency as 333

Then--NOTHING ,except "press DEL to enter setup."
On hitting del key it doesnt even enter into BIOS SETUP but on multiple click gives a single beep from the mobo speaker .

Fans work, drives spin, Even checked the power supply to each IDE drive .Its ok .

Please help me out on this.

hi ,i have/had until last week same board ,and will tell you if it has the original Intel cpu fan and you haven't cleaned it of dust lately open the tower and make sure the fan is clear of dust ,i was always cleaning mine because of the design of the fan

hi.you don't tell us the make and model of the laptop ,really makes a difference as some/most new laptop do not have available winxp drivers for a lot of its hardware.
tell you cousin to use it get use to it ,its the best windows OS in yrs
