Hi I am new to this so please bear with me. I cant get into my add and remove program so I can delete my windows installer and reinstall it. If you can give me advice I sure am willing to try.

can any one help i need to know how to uninstall windows xp as the copy on this pc is fake and i now have a real copy but cant install it:confused:

Hello and welcome to DaniWeb ,
first make sure you backup any data or music you have on your harddrive that you want to keep as all will be lost when you format the drive to do a new install .
just simply insert the new winxp cd and reboot the computer booting to the cd when asked ,if it doesn't boot to the cd ,then you need to go into the bios on reboot,[usually by hitting f1,f2 f11.or DEL depends on you system ] and go to the boot section and change it to CDROM as first boot .[if you have SATA HardDrive you will need to do the f6 to install the drivers ]when you get to where it says install windows say yes,you will need to delete the partition and create a new one then formatthe drive ,NTFS is best choice ,after the format windows will start installing just sit and wait .

Actually, I apologize, because I did that shortly after I posted the message and got it working. But thanks for your help anyways.

you could try buying some new floppys ,or worse case is that the floppy drive itself has died .and you need a new one

Stop using standby !

using the maintenence/repair numbers or what ever it called ! on the side of you dell ,go to the website and download and install the sound drivers

Ive never done this ,but just giving the was multi boot work i don't see what difference it would make .and yes if you have your hard drive partitioned you would just have to format the partition with 64 bit on it ,unless you have something different than im use to doing when i partition a hdd.

most likely downloading zips from gray area sites with[for] passwords ,If so you need to revisit the site and find the password there .

if you have second partition with enough space to install 64bit winxp ,then do it ,it will not interfear or use same system files as the 32 bit os .

when you die c:\ try going up one letter to D:\ or even e:\
ramdrive means the dell diagonists is running from your ram ,also if the drive was clicking and noisy it might well be dead .

Sorry ,can't imagin what would be causing this on a fresh install of windows ,and random at that .

Explorer 7 is Beta ,meaning in testing ,so not really reccomended that you install it on a main computer that you want to work like a charm! unintall it and see if it fixes the problem .

Cant imaging that a fresh install of windows didn't fix it .you F1 key is not stuck in is it ,faulty keyboard maybe try another one

trojans/viruses disable system restore . so you can't fix you computer !!

running both AVG and MCafee why ! only one is need and recomended

you may also need to go to manual detect harddrive in the bios

One of the reason why you are not suppose to store files on you desk ,the desktop is for shortcuts ,
You could look in
C:\Documents and Settings\username\Desktop
change the drive letter and username

try removing all addin cards like sound ,modem nic ,ect ect ,also the ram process of emilitation

The CPU has protection against overheating by observing fan's rpms.
If rpms go below certan limit some CPUs underclock them selfs to reduce heating.
If the rpms go to 0 then the bios shuts system down emidiately. So, if it ain't turnin' it ain't runnin'.

True for some cpu's not all,I toasted a few older AMD's !! and a Pll & Plll will run with no fan, as will a lot of CPU's in different situations .

first thing never delet to save space,,you deleted you video drivers by the sound of it .! you will nedd to find out what they are and download new video drivers ,or maybe a system restore will fix it .

Hi ,not sure if this will help try right click on the menubar go customize ,/toolbar /highlite menu and click on to reset ,

It is most likely added to your registry you should be able to edit the registry to remove the reference to the game,or use a registry editor to do it fo you .remember to backup the registry before you edit anything .

I think you have cpu/motherboard issues ,maybe !!.
Also did you remove all non-essential pci card and cdrom floppy drive and try to boot machine .try another video card ect ect ,if you have more than one stick of ram remove all but one .process of elimation !

sounds more like cpu overheating ,most power supply problem ive seen it will not start or just enough to runs fans but not boot all the way ,but not shut off .
howabout supplying the stats of you computer ,like CPU,Ram ect ect

I know the .dat file is a jpeg or mpeg of some sort.

you should be able to just simply right click on it an dchange the name .if you think it a jpg, try that first ,change the dat ext to .jpeg ,if that did nothing try mpeg. also just found this in a search ,dat file viewer ,didn't try it yet but will,

The web site shows that the file type is used by these 3 programs ,
JPS = Print Studio Graphic (Jolly, Inc.)
JPS = Stereo Image
JPS = Jigsaw Puzzle Player Puzzle Completion Status (B&P Games B.V.)

I have acdsee on my computer also ,and to my best its only a image viewer,and don't see anywhere to create file like you are discribing .

In defence of the co-worker ,they could have spent that money to have it upgrade and been ripped of by someone else !!!!

And I have no idea where the discs we received with the computer are.

My suggestion is to look a little harder for the disk ,or maybe you have a fried who has a dvd burner,and still has the software that came with there and could lend you theres. Also if you tried Nero ^ it should burn files DVD

IF you have windows xp ,and windows media player 10 it should play DVD movies .or you could buy a good dvd player software here .

most files when you click on them will either open with the program releated to that file type ,or not open and want to go to the net or elsewere to fine a program to open them .
the link i posted above got to a file extension web site ,and if you go to that site and scroll down you will see 3 references/programs that use the JPS file type in you post.

When plugged in. I haven't been able to run it on battery because my battery does not hold a charge.

Has it always had nortons on it or did you just reciently install that ,i've seen norton do this to my brother-inlaws laptop ,worked fine after we removed norton 2005.

also it sound like a heat problem ,has it been taken apart and cleaned around the CPU heat sinc and fan lately
