the svchust.exe error happened because i had a typing error few months back. i typed svchust.exe instead of svchost.exe.

where were you typing when you typed in svchust.exe,the first time!

if i type in svchurt.exe in cmd it gives me the same message but does not return ,
do a ALT+ctrl+del ,bring up task manager ,do you have 5 or 6 svchost.exe showing in the processes section

I may be wrong about a virus causing you problems ,it does happen ,as for combofix installing what you refer to as restore console ,its actually referred to as the recovery console ,in recovery console it is possible to do a restore of a computer that will not boot to normal or safe modes ,

Thanks for the reply, I followed your suggestion and found that the check box was already unchecked, which would suggest that the restore utility was or should have been registering restoring dates; yes?.

But as I said in my original post; the "restore my computer to a date when it was working properly" is not working. any suggestions spike?

that depends on what she has saved ,actually you be prompted to save file if you wish to,when deleting the acct ,it will save the mydocuments folder

hi,is the D:\ drive a harddrive or a cdrom drive ,If the files are burnt to a cd you will not be able to edit the files unless the cd used was a cd-rw [rewritable disk ] you will need to copy file to your harddrive ,me thinks !!

we knew that ,i have had mumble lettering like that before but not the bios, just the boot screen ,and it was Ram stick not plugged in correctly,all the way.my difference was the computer would not complete a boot to windows ,check ram and video card for proper connections ,
do you have a video card ,or is yours unboard video device

,check you ram,making sure it is in [remove and replace ] correctly .
also you could use memtest86 to check the ram .

it may not be your video device ,the bios picture you post has a lot of miss spelling and not actual display problem ,maybe it is software ,trying to see if I ever seen this problem before !

Well, video card can be a problem, but if that is a problem I don't understand how can windows work in safe mode normaly?

because I'm talking drivers and not the card itself .and in safe mode windows does not load your cards drives,it runs in vga mode ,when in safe made uninstall the video drivers and reboot see what if anything happens .if it boot to normal mode ,reinstall drivers
did you check and see if the card has a fan on it that may be clogged with dirt or just not spinning

looks like incorrect or corrupt video drivers[or even bad video card/chipset ] installed on computer

some computers have it as an option when you go F8 on bootup for safe mode ,on that screen look for disable auto reboot .

hi ,you could start by posting the BSOD error message here .If it rebbots to fast ,then right clicko n mycomputer go to properties /advanced /startup and recovery settings and uncheck the auto restart

I have a Compaq, and it has the PC Recovery (which I read will do the same thing as using the disks to repair and/or reformat windows) but before I run it I get a warning that it will back up all my data, but not my applications. Does this mean that it won't keep like iTunes, or Kodak, for example? And if these are gone, will it also delete all the picture files and music files? I'm so scared that I'm going to loose things!

you need to get a regular winxp disk ,borrow one from a friend to run the Repair i mention in my other post

Disk Management it is telling me it is not formatted and is only showing 32.8 Gigs

at the prompt, type in this with out the"".
CHKDSK /R, note there is a space between K and /.
this should fix the corrupt windows files ,witch is most likely the problem giving the way you had to shut down

My PC now has winXP Pro. If I also wanted to have win98 installed for whatever reason, would that work? How would I install win98 separate from XP? Then how do I use one op sys at a time>? Is this an unusual situation? Am I being unreasonable?

not unusual at at all ,you could have 20 if you wish! first thing is you have[use to with 98 and xp not so with vista] to install oldest version first ,so in you case you would load 98 on one partition then xp on another .and use a bootmanager software to pick what one to boot to.
