strange problem ! a USB connection i assume.
Did you install software and drivers that came with the mp3 player .
have you check to make sure there is nothing in the end of the usb cable from the player,or its not bent , most computers have 2 or more usb connections have you tried both .
Next if you right click on mycomputer go to properties ,hardware/device manager ,t the end of the list is the USB device any yellow or red ! marks their ,if no ,you could try hitting the + next to it and removing all in there and rebooting computer and let windows reinstall the usb device drivers .then try plugging the player in again and see what happens ,if it detects it you Will be asked for the usb drivers for the player .

If you mean can you remove xp and loose winxp and all files and programs and do a fresh install of win2000 the answer is yes!

Hi,
I recently installed Norton AntiVirus 2004 on a Win 98SE system. The installation went off smoothly enough. But after the installation, the system got very slow. I read that this problem can be fixed by running the Norton LiveUpdate. But when I run the LiveUpdate, its gets stuck in the middle and won't finish. Could someone help me with this problem?

I have tried to refresh my windows but when i put the windows xp disc in it wont let me cont. . Is there a way to refresh my computer from dos? If so
please help me with how to do this. thanks.

do you put the disk in and then reboot computer to the cd ,and do a repair install .
If it will not boot to the cd then you need to enter the bios on bootup and change the boot order to cdrom as first boot .
Make sure you have backedup all important data before you proceed just in case .

My computer keeps shutting off and restarting by itself. When it restarts it says, "You system has recovered from a serious error" Then it gives me some code that looks like this

BCCode : 7f BCP1 : 00000000 BCP2 : 00000000 BCP3 : 00000000
BCP4 : 00000000 OSVer : 5_1_2600 SP : 0_0 Product : 256_1

Then when i look at the summary it says this

C:\WINDOWS\Minidump\Mini021205-09.dmp
C:\DOCUME~1\VENTIC~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\WER2.tmp.dir01\sysdata.xml

Would anyone know where that is, anyway im going to look for it.

hi this a copy\ paste from Smart Computing .com
,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
Problem: Another reader complains about a system that reboots unexpectedly at random times and then presents an error message when WinXP starts again.

Error Message: "The system has recovered from a serious error. C:\Windows\Minidump020404-01.dmp C:\Docume~1\Darle~1\Locals~1\Temp\Wer5E.tmp.diroo\sysdata.xml"

Solution: This error message reveals a problem with a memory dump (an inventory of the contents of computer memory; sometimes referred to as a minidump). It seems the OS created a memory dump file but forgot about it, so it's attempting to create the file again. The resulting conflict leads to a serious error and the sudden system meltdown.

The minidump error is sometimes associated with an outdated video driver (a program that facilitates communication between a hardware component and the rest of the system), so one potential solution is to download a driver update for the video card. The reader can get one by visiting the Support or Downloads area of the card manufacturer's Web site. …

Thanks, I received another email from another user today, with the same virus on it.
All the addresses are hotmail addresses, I dont even use hotmail, I use yahoo and my email address is not available by searching?
But it seems a coincidence that all the emails are from hotmail users.
I have spoke to one of the users and he says he didnt send me the email and has no reason to send me a virus??

Do you know these people ,if so do they have you in there contacs list ,if the answer to these questions is yes ,then they have a virus on there computer ,and its sending itself to all the people in there contacs list .

Please do this.
Download 'Hijack This!'. HijackThis
Save it in a convenient permanent folder such as C:\HJT\, double click HijackThis.exe, and hit "Scan".

Your copy of HijackThis needs to be in a folder of it's own. When HJT fixes anything, it makes backups of the original files in the folder it is in. Since Temporary folders are emptied now and then (the files are DELETED), it would not be a good idea to have your backups there. Those backups would be VITAL to restoring your system if something went wrong in the FIX process!

1. Please go to you're 'My Documents' folder, right-click and select 'New > Folder' then name the folder 'HJT'.

2. Copy and paste HijackThis.exe to the new folder.

3. Close ALL windows except HJT

4. SCAN with HJT

5. POST the new log in this thread using 'Add Reply'

DO NOT MAKE ANY CHANGES OR CLICK "FIX CHECKED" UNTIL WE CHECK THE LOG, AS SOME OF THE FILES ARE LEGIT AND VITAL TO YOUR COMPUTER'S HEALTH

try removing the electrical plug from the back of the computerand then holde the power button in for 45 seconds or so .then plug it back in and reboot to see what happens .what were you doing when it shut down .do it make any effort to start any beep code noises !!??

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

choose this one from the list .
restart windows with last known configuration that worked!
if that doesn't work try safe mode with networking and if that works email yourself the 22 page plan for backup .
you don't want to reload windows ,that way you will lose all info on it now !
you mostlikely will need to get the orignal disk so you can do a repair install .
If all that failes ,you should get another harddrive to get the info off the one you have now ,if its still on the drive .

The Quick launch folder is there with all the icons inside...

here is what i would do ,move the folder and its content from here ,[C:\Documents and Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer]to your desktop .then create a new folder in ithe nternet explore folder ,call it Quick Launch ,uncheck quick launch from the tool bar .reboot computer ,then copy the content of the old quick launch folder you moved to the desktop ,to the new folder you created ,and turn the quick launch back on .
To turn off and on quick launch .right click the lower bar ,go to toolbars and check off quick launch .
if thats confusing ,let me know .

will this fix my computer?
there are so many windows that pop up after you click on something that is not related to what you are doing so i was not sure that this was the next step . Is there a way to do this faster with you is so please tell me .
my computer is not working and this is such a pain.

if there were a faster way i would have started with that .
The fastest way to fix you computer would be to take it to a computer repair shop and have them reinstall windows for you !!

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

tell me what a fresh start is
remember i am not very exper with computers

I don't mean this as an insult ,but after reading this thread and helping you in another thread ,i think you should take you computer to a Computer repair shop or a friend /neighbour who know about computers , I think you will get into more trouble that you can handle .Good Luck

I used to use Windows Media Player (version 10) to rip my CDs, so I set the Tools/Options for ripping in WMP to "rip inserted CD." I now use other software for ripping, so I have turned this feature off in WMP.
However, WMP does not recognise this. Whenever I insert a CD, WMP opens and starts to rip it, meaning that I have to close it down every time.
Anyone had this bug before?

Have you tried ,going to mycomputer .right click on the cdrom /properties/ayto play ,in the drop down list choose music cd and check off to take no action .!!:)

ok, the damndest thing just happened. i come home for the weekends from college and today i was printing out a document from Word (a letter actually) and i hooked up to my dads printer and hit print, no problem right? well....what happened was the printer started shooting out picture of this guy who lives 2 doors down on my hall on campus....i have never taken pictures of this guy before in my life (as a matter of fact i have his highschool prom picture). now im confused. why did they start printing first thing (i do have my computer password protected when im networking in the dorm) but more importantly, how did they get there to begin with. (i also got a health report from either him or his roomate and boyz II men lyrics *wtf*) its weird....is there anything i can do to fix this....or was it a one time whoops?

Shooting out ,your dad must have a printer better than mine:)
anyway you don't say if it stoped at a certin number of copies or if you had to manually stop it ,roommates could have put them on you computer and had it set to print at a later time ,for a joke .or you could have been hacked ,hows you computer performing ,in task manger /processes is anything runnig at 100% like spoolSv.exe ,printer releated /
in case you don't know how to get to task manager ,ALT+CTRL+DEL
