in disk manager right click on D:\ and G:\ and check delete Volume, then right click them format them to ntfs same as C:\ you then should be able to right click on C:\ and click on extend volume ,i think maybe twice to get it to extend to the other 2 partitions .
that what i just did anyway to a laptop drive i had lying around ,it had 2 partitions now has one bigger one .

also it normal for a 300gig hdd to format to less than 300 ,it all more than i can explain .

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

your welcome good luck ,hope new drives works for you

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

no,that should be fine,i have 2 drives in front of me ,and one is seagate at 0.451A and one Toshiba at 1.0A i use them in an Blac X external usb device and they both perform the same

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

being plugged in over night leave open the possibility of a power serge, although not likely ,but always a possibility .
there are only a few hard drive manufacturers making them and branding them with known names !so im not sure the most reliable ,i like Seagate,Western Digital,[top 10 hdd http://www.reportlabs.com/testbed/version1/hdv1/hdtop10.php] to each there own i think .

one was to extend the live is to avoid writing and rewriting to it all the time ,so i would suggest getting an external drive for storage of music/movies and other thing you may download , downloading them directly to the external drive ,avoiding all the downloading and transferring from one drive to another, and making sure it runs cool, not getting hot is good to watch for .
.

For future reference, it would always be a good idea to sysprep any windows installation and make an image just incase we were to run into problems like OP's. The problem with that is a lot of us dont think about backups and image creation until its too late!

My, apologies for the irrelevant post!

no need to apologize ,my post was not to say it was irrelevent info ,just wasn't relevant to OP.
it maybe relevant to some of the other posters, plus good info in link for someone who comes along with a working computer and they want to transfer there old drive to it

The problem with that is a lot of us dont think about backups and image creation until its too late!

most computer owners would not even know that they may someday need or want to do this to there new computer in case something happens down the road

you link was a good one and i will go study it to see if i can maybe use it someday
thank you

I am pretty sure my HDD should not have died

there is now way you can be sure that it didn't die .they have been know to die with out warning, was it unplugged from the wall outlet over night ,the fact it happened before could have been a warning something was ailing in the hdd

remove and reseat the harddrive ,also remove the power and hold the button in again ,making sure to hold it in for at least 1 min

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

I know this is an old thread and you probably have your computer working after a re-install, but thought I would answer it for future readers who need the solution.

It is indeed possible to transfer your installation and it is not difficult at all!

There is NO need to reinstall. If you would like to keep your current configuration and applications, use sysprep.exe to prepare your Windows installation for the new hardware by entering the System Out of Box Experience. Sysprep will strip your installation of all drivers an detect and install the new ones on your first boot with the new hardware.

Here is a great tutorial at SevenForums. Follow these directions precisely and you will have no problems at all. (Do an image backup of your hard drive before starting to be safe)

If you recieve a fatal error when running sysprep, use msconfig and disable all startup items, restart your computer and then try again.

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/135077-windows-7-installation-transfer-new-computer.html

When complete you will need to reactivate windows with a qualifying license.

Hope this helps!

Thanks

will work im sure ,but i will go back to original poster as i have not read all the rest ,OP's motherboard is dead so no way he can sys prep tool

use the f8 key on bootup to access safe mode and see what happens .if you can get into safe mode ,go to control panel /users and create a new user boot to it and see if programs works

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

I have a couple of permutations to play with so I'll do that soon.

ok. if that doesn't work , if it were mine i would try a uninstall ans reinstall of the drivers

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

Use "Get Data Back Recovery Software". It is possible that all your data will back if you have not Read/Write that harddisk partition.
Find serial key from net otherwise you can not recover data. In trial mode you can find for deleted files.

Or use Recuva recovery software by piriform from here http://www.piriform.com/recuva

I recommend to use first Recuva because it's tiny and Free.

it been November 2011 since original poster made and i recommended Recuva back then ,wanna bet the original is gone to never never computer land

what make /model of sound card do you have in the computer ,

I know you know what you are doing ,but,do you have the speakers plugged into the green jack on the card .sounds like the jack you are using is maybe a mono jack and not stereo, not likely i know

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

try hitting f8 and going into safe mode, did you use msconfig to disable them .if so did you use this setting show in the attachment

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

just in case you want to look into it more the make/model of the motherboard is the best place to look to find out the name /model # of the board i use a free program called Speccy ,it will give you all the info on you motherboard ,and then you could google the boards model # and find info on if it can handle a bigger Cpu http://www.piriform.com/speccy/download

There are so many factors involved in the speed of downloading from internet. You need to identify your internet connection first. What type of internet connection are you using? Is this Broadband or the old Dial-up? If it is dial-up than you may never think about increasing your download speed as it is impossible with dial-up connection. Here is quick reference of a good article written on How to Increase download speed:

lol. most info and links in the link you offered lead to third party software ,as its already been mentioned in this thread a few time not to bother with 3rd party software to help speedup downloads ,as they are usually just garbage,as in my opinion most if not all download speeds are determined by the SOURCE of the file being downloaded

you mean like this?

this is what ntoskrnl.exe is for ,very important this is a copy paste from Wikipedia .

ntoskrnl.exe (and ntkrnlpa.exe on systems with Physical Address Extension support) is the kernel image for the family of Microsoft Windows NT operating systems. It provides the Kernel and Executive layers of the Windows NT kernel space, and is responsible for various system services such as hardware virtualization, process and memory management, etc., thus making it a fundamental part of the system. It contains the Cache Manager, the Executive, the Kernel, the Security Reference Monitor, the Memory Manager, and the Scheduler, among other things.

you can check this site ,to run the startup fix ,if no results do the memory scan and or the disk check i suggest below .
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Resolving-stop-blue-screen-errors-in-Windows-7

So this is what i suggest !!!
because it manages ram you should do a scan of your ram for errors i suggest using memtest86,run it for at least a few hrs ,download the ISO file and burn the image to cd and boot computer with the cd in the drive and it will run the test on bootup
www.memtest86.com . direct download link to the iso file , http://www.memtest86.com/memtest86-4.0a.iso.zip
if no errors, then i suggest going into windows ,go to [my]Computer ,right click on the harddrive icon,go properties /tools ,error checking ,make sure it checked off "automatic check system errors "click ok …

.I am basically want to use it for programming so I don't want a fancy graphic card or any other such extra feature.

cant comment on the comparison between it and a Dell ,but can say we have a Toshiba laptop here ,well over 2 yrs old and used daily and is still running the original load of windows vista ,not a problem ,and i fix/fixed a lot of Dell Computer in the past 12 yrs ,and a lot of Toshiba/Acers \Compaqus ,HP.s too, they all have there issues in my opinion
also you say you don't need a lot of bells and whistles ,but then you pick a Qosmio, with a lot of bells and whistles

i replaced my fan ibm t43 fan works if i power it but it wont power its self

hi, not sure exactly what you mean by power itself .
i have seen fan do a lot of things ,never seen one power itself ,i always had to plug them into something . most laptop fan come on for a few seconds when you first boot up ,but shut off until the laptop heats up ,they don't run all the time .

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

Updated drivers are only a better version of your previously installed drivers. Obviously your hardware is working fine, it just showed whether a new driver is available or not.

i have a Dell SFF tower right now and only get drivers from the maker of my computers and they have none for win7 so it ain't broke i don't fix it ,and I definitely don't get drivers from no torrent site ,i guess if i wanted to i could go to the maker of each device website and go look for drivers, bit as i said in my case it works ,i leave it alone.
look at the pictures i posted the program is telling the usb controller is bad ,the sata controller /my network devices ,im really if those had bad drivers my computer would not boot and no usb device ,or hard drive would work right ,so i leave it alone
