My laptop is 3 years old.
and not many laptop were made to be upgradeable in 3 or 4 years from the date of manufacturer, for best help /info on this matter your laptops make and exact model[usually on the underside of laptop ] number will help best in finding an answer .
I took the hdd out of my external computer
i first read this thread 5 days ago[had no answer ] and im still trying to figure out what a external computer is ,lol
start over, format and reload again
wiggle ,wiggle made it but now its broke ,so the original reason the wiggle worked needs fixing ,re-solder wires perhaps
its may wel ltake the 4 gig of ram ,but if you are using a 32bit windows install it will not recognize the extra 1 gig until you start using the 64bit windows install ,but if you already have 64 bit then it will work ,as long as the board can handle the 4gig and.
right click on [my]computer go properties and it will show there what your windows install is 32-64.
this is from asus site about the ram .its likely shop told you 3gig max because the windows installed is only 32bit
2 x DIMM, max. 4GB, DDR2 667/533 MHz, non-ECC, un-buffered memory
Dual channel memory architecture
* Refer to www.asus.com or user manual for Memory QVL (Qualify Vendor List)
**When installing total memory of 4GB capacity or more, WindowsR 32-bit operation system may only recognize less than 3GB. Hence, a total installed memory of less than 3GB is recommended.
hi, i don't know a whole lot about networking ,only the basics at best ,but if you have a network setup shouldn't you already know who's on it .
maybe also post you question in the daniweb networking section ,maybe someone there that doesn't check the windows forum ,might have and answer for you
http://www.daniweb.com/hardware-and-software/networking/13
just found this with google search of the error #.

Hi caperjack,
Thank you for the quick response...okay i will just do this few gig at a time,by the way can i ask something? if i have 3.0 external hdd can this be compatible with the 2.0 on the p.c?Thank you again.
yes a 3.0 will plug into the same port as the 2.0 but will only be as fast as the 2.0
when it comes to 3.0 and 2.0 ,internal connection of the 3.0 plug, will not plug into where the 2.0 plugs on the motherboard ,the motherboard must be 3.0 compatible and have connection for it ..
none i know of except new hardware ,file transfer speed is controlled by the speed of the computers CPU and harddrive and and the speed of the connection between the computer and the external device ,the external device[usually usb 2.0] being the one that slows it all down . excample =High-Speed USB 2.0, which operates at 480 Mbps. and the new usb3=SuperSpeed USB 3.0 operates at 5 Gbps, only found on newer motherboard .
I assume you have multiple file adding up to 20 gig ,so might i suggest you separate them and only move a few gigs [2-3 gig ]at a time copy
no expert ,but what are you planning on using the computer for after its built .
you did notice the board uses a Intel Xeon CPU right ,which if im right would make it a good video editing and Cad type workstation ,not a gaming cpu .unless it has become one ?
i have a older xeon based computer and its a Dell Workstation ,not a gamer
from Wikipedia =The Xeon is a brand of multiprocessing- or multi-socket-capable x86 microprocessors from Intel Corporation targeted at the non-consumer server, workstation and embedded system markets.
rule of thumb ,don't stop anything in the sysrtem32 folder ,
and the password question as hericles says ,but also look fo change way user logs in
did you dowmload drivers for the laptop from hp ,or just use the ones in win7 or is it the hp recovery that you used ,anyway you may need either the sound or keyboard driver to get that function on the desktop .
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?os=4063&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&sw_lang=&product=5184929#N156
C:\Documents and Settings\jemz\cuqal.exe/S
try going to the location of the file and delete the cuqal.exe file
my suggestion is to boot the xp cd againg and when you get to options don't choose install choose deleted partition ,then you will be prompted to create a new partition do so,then choose format ,and i suggest ntfs ,not fat32
after hitting f8 on the winxp install you will see below scree ,
there should be a button or key to turn the wireless on and off ,i assume you tried that ,also did you try or can you connect wired to the router/modem .
a lot of what you say excepts live Linux points to a Trojan or virus if you cant get on line with the laptop i suggest downloading something like Superantivirus or malwarebytes on a working computer and transferring to the laptop and installing and scanning with it .

From the Microsoft website
Windows XP Media Center Edition is a version of the Windows XP
operating system and is no longer being sold.More information in the link below
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows/products/windows-media-center/get-it
OP is looking for just the media center software to install on his winxp .
i searched for and it no where to be found ,so far
my experience is that its usually related to the case ,so maybe removing it and hooking directly to a computer will help determine if its the drive or the external case malfunction
at least you have it fixed .if it helps i like Intel better than AMd ,i just find they perform a little better for me .a non gamer
hi caperjack,
I found out that my hard drive should be replace a new one, because the seatool will not continue to test and it says failed etc...anyway i am still looking for the hard drive that you have said.by the way about the 7200rpm does this will matter to my processor my processor is dual core 2.1 Ghz intel...
Thank you in advance.
it should be no problem to use either a 5400 or 7200 rpm drive ,like i said before its usually just a power consumption and heat issue for the laptop .your laptop will work just fine with a 5400 rpm drive that what most use anyway ,so i wouldn't really be concerned with getting a 7200rpm drive
that's the way the picture look to me anyway ,i cant find much of anything constructive on the web about the laptops ram .
thanks for the nice comments on his pictures ,it is a nice site and the pictures he sometimes waits in the cold for hrs just for the right moment
to me it looks like they make it for 4 but only put 2 in some models .i think for you to get to 8 gig you would have to use 2x4gig ram chips .
off topic i enjoyed the photos in the link in your signature ,my nephew is a photographer and quite good if i don't say so myself .lol
check his site in my signature ,just added it .
the manual sort of shows 4 slots .maybe the 2nd one needs to flip left to right ,so the slot is on the opposite side for the lower slot .
manual here
http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/xpsL702X/en/index.htm
great news ,sometimes its just the little things we miss .
pleas mark thread as solved ,thanks and happy computing
pretty sure they know what harddrive needs replacing ,its a laptop
i check the board and card makers and it should work , the board is pci-e 2.0 and the card is pci-e 2.1 but it should be backward compatible and work with the board ,any chance there could be a problem with your monitor, you did plug the One 6-Pin PCI Express Power connector into the video card ,right
listen ,creative username .
what type of cable connection do you to the monitor ,DVI or VGA ,it it a new monitor ,did you make sure the video card was compatible with the motherboard
Hi caperjack,
.but when i tried the long test it says that the S.M.A.R.T has been tripped!!!...so i abort the test....
that ok ,no need to abort the test .you need to run the test to tell you if it ok ,
definition of S.M.A.RT
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/S.M.A.R.T.
By the way caperjack,my bad hard drive is samsung not seagate is seatool still works on my samsung hdd?
yes
you could downlkoad seatools for windows instead of the DOS one ,and install it on your desktop and run it and it will locate the 2 harddrive in the computer , tell it to scan the slaved laptop drive
hi, its my experience that once a hard drive does what your is doing its not fixable ,you should run seatools to test the drive ,download and burn to cdrom the seatools for DOS in this like ,boot the computer to the CD and run the full test to see if the drive is bad .if its bad seatools will tell you for sure .check on how to use it on this site also
http://www.seagate.com/ww/v/index.jsp?locale=en-US&name=SeaTools&vgnextoid=720bd20cacdec010VgnVCM100000dd04090aRCRD
direct link to download .
http://www.seagate.com/staticfiles/support/seatools/SeaToolsDOS223ALL.ISO
sorry , squat, just means they "don't know nothing "
Seagate is a good drive ,and it will not hurt to use a 5400rpm drive its just a bit slower ,its use in laptops because of heat ,it will run cooler than the 7200rpm drive..
tell the computer shop to look for this model Seagate . ST9320423AS
Seagate ST9320423AS Momentus 7200.4 Mobile Hard Drive - 320GB, 2.5", 7200 RPM, 16MB, SATA
your computer store don't know squat ,sure most laptops use 5400 rpm but you can get 7200 rpm drives
http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/category/category_slc.asp?CatId=2682&name=7200%20RPM
all things are possible when it comes to computers ,but any upgrade i have every done all programs on the computer always worked ,after ,make sure you buy the win7 upgrade and not the full version ,good luck
EDIT:
I don't quite get why it's done that though...
I mean, the compy hasn't even been up but for almost 4 months.
====
this could indicate a dead bios battery on the motherboard ,if it is then the bios would revert back to factory default settings
your welcome
get him to download and run super-antispyware .the free eddition .
http://www.superantispyware.com/downloadfile.html?productid=SUPERANTISPYWAREFREE
,if you check on this site the memory support list it shows the newer ram will be downgraded to 1333 ,it doesn't list the exact one you chose ,but does say because there are so many types of ram it doesn't list them all ,good luck
http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=3773#sp
it says 1066/1333 ,so yes the 1600 will run at 1333, it maybe possible to overclock it ,not positive , what is the make and model of the motherboard you are going to use
yeah,it could be any of those things ,check event viewer yet ,

run it again and check off these ,reboot ,then try deleting folder ,.
you seem to a few toolbars installed ,most are not needed
also download and run ,malwarebytes ,after scan view what it finds if any and delete all .
www.malwarebytes.com
its not going to help you by attaching any of those file here anyway .
just read a bit about elf 1.15 and it seems to be a browser toolbar ,go to tools in your browser and then go to [firefox browser ] addons ,or {IE}manage addons and see if you can uninstall it here
make sure elf is fullt shut down
go start /run/ type in , msconfig, in msconfig check startup tab ,look for anything related to elf 1.15 and uncheck it ,reboot computer, then try removing elf
I want my thing spring clean tell me most important areas to clean
--------
i use caned compressed air ,to clean power supply fan,and most other parts like harddrive and dvd rom ,i also use a soft paint brush to clean video card and motherboard if they are dusty.
check this might help some.
http://www.ehow.com/video_2200475_clean-inside-computer-case.html
my pc box is a little unclean
im sure it is as most all are , my concern is not the box ,but the cpu fan and heatsinc ,if it has a buildup of dirt it needs to be cleaned ASAP
Hi all,
I think you are right rubberman. the virus came from that device. because my friend didn't saw that msg box before.
-vinod
if the device is the one in the link in my last post ,then it didn't put the virus on the computer as it's not a storage device ,so it could not have a virus on it,plain and simple
i think the netsetter pendrive device is a g3/g4/cell signal wireless type device , like this one ,http://tinyurl.com/d6sjdm3
,but i could be wrong ,and likely am..did they install drivers for the device before plugging it into the computer
Also, bear in mind that thumb (usb flash) drives are a VERY common vector for getting virus infections these days... :-( IE, you might have got this from the device itself!
but the device is a wireless usb device, not a storage device
my first thought is a cpu fan/heatsync full of dust ,have you checked this yet
It is intel, I have another older processor Im going to try. So you think it is the processor and not anything else?
no,not positive ,5or6 yr old computer it could be anything ,try it with just one stick of ram at a time
it only takes 5 seconds if it a AMD cpu ,good luck
