you motherboard is not compatible with win7 ,if it were Asus would have win7 drivers for it ,you need to go back to Vista or winxp if that is what you had installed on it before win7

Asus doesn't have win7 drivers for that board ,try install the Vista drive see what happens .

ok ,so it not reading you hard drive ,you need to get hands on help checking the harddrive,by removing it and trying a new/different harddrive in the computer

just looking at the meaning of the words used to describe the different versions says a lot to me . Basic,Premium,Ultimate ,what one you need depends on your needs ,if all you are going do is ,a bit of school work and surf the net ,then basic is fine ,if you want to do everything with it then Ultimate would be you choice .
as for the service pack SP1, its the same download for all versions.

if in a worse case ,some formatted it and passed it back to you ,it would still be possible to retrieve the files using a program like recura .if your drive has really important file on it you shouldn't be lending it anyway ,also if if the files are really important they should be backedup on dvd's ,also thumb drives are so cheap now just buy one for lending ,unrelated but i own about 7 of them

why! because it was made for winxp ,not win7did you check before installing win7 to see if your intel board had drivers for win7

start /gpedit.msc in the search field and open it 'in fo on web was for winxp but it was there in win7 also .

yes it runs full screen i just had it made smaller to show it was running along my opened win7 browser at the same time it was install some windows updates and updating the security essential i have install on it ,i had not had it running in awhile

so no need to use vmware ,with the win7 ultimate version you can use windows virtual pc and xpmode., it will run side by side with win7 and you can copy and past between the 2 and much more,i have it installed and can have xp running under or beside as depicted in the attachment

Yes you may be right. I got frustated with those error messages blowing again and again. So i deleted windows 7 completely and installed XP (sp2).

After my work is done , as soon as possible(very shortly) i will again shift to Windows 7 and then i'll try to install the xp using vmware.

But i need to work on some application which unfortunately has compatability issues with windows 7 and that is why i shifted to xp currently.

So again if i install xp with VMware , can i work with that application in full screen mode.?
I mean to say i should do all the stuff within that small window. So is there any way to get similar experience as really using xp.

Oops. Meant to say short test. But this is valuable information. Quick question, though, on the back of the PSU there is a switch to change the voltage from 115 to 230. If I turn it up to 230 do I run the risk of burning out my motherboard? Or would it not make a difference if the PSU is not putting out what it's supposed to anyways?

no don't change that ,it will not work at all on 230 , because you house is only wired 120.
if you dont have a digital multi meter ,then take the PSU out and take it to local computer/electronic shop and have them test it for you

maybe the newer drive stopped working ,and if the 2 drives were jumper set to cable select ,then the old drive would still be-able to be the boot drive ,unhook older drive/with just the newer drive attached and see what happens on boot-up

i would take it to a computer it works on if it does work on other computers, take the file off it and format it and start a new .then see if it works on your computer fine if not ,
this may have already been covered ,but what happens if you unplug all external usb devices ,go to device manager and uninstall all usb devices ,reboot windows to reinstall them ,then try the faulty device before adding any of the other usb devices

in vmware when you click on the guest operating system ,do you still have the winxp bootable disk in the cdrom drive

i uninstalled vmware a few months back and only used it a few times ,install 3 different windows versions before i uninstalled .got some errors after installing one of them ,related to using a virtual drive to install winxp files from a iso file.

if you mean files you downloaded and not the saving of temp internet webpages ,then go to tools /general and it will show where all the files you downloaded are stored,not web pages, i personally don't use the term files when referring to web pages

and yes ,just download and put them on the usb stick and copy them to the xp computer ,and then they need to be installed ,they should be .exe files so you just click on them to install the driver

Hi,I fix /repair computers of all OS types and i use win7 to download drives for winxp/vista/98,and even MAC ,so no reason why you cant do it ,I would also suggest getting a USB thumb drive, to use for getting the files from one computer to the other,instead of using a cd .
