Try removing your VGA and plugging it back. Moving the PC around sometimes makes VGA to lose the contacts with the slot. P.S. You mean "PCI-E", right?

Bare in mind that 1 Gig sticks are slower than 2 of 512 MB of a same vendor/model, so if you're looking for a permanent memory expansion, I advice to go for 2x512 instead of 1 gig.

Your problem is with HD power cable. Poor contacts make unrecoverable error with windows and they shut down (with or without BSOD). You can disable the "automatic shutdown while booting" feature, but that would be useful only with /SOS boot comand ("msconfig" in the "run" menu item). I suggest that …

From what I remeber about W95, there isn't such possibility to set the whole drive to "read-only". My best guess is that the File Allocation Table is busted on your D drive and the system CAN'T read or write (Actually it can read first cluster of a file or folder). …

That story hurts deep. Looks like you have PSU problem there. If a harddrive won't spin-up. Or you may have plugged ide cable upside-down. That is, if you have one of those cheap ones that you CAN plug upside down. I suggest that you try basic steps: - try PSU-Mobo-cpu …

Best advice I can give you is visit ASUS web site (www.asus.com) and sellect exact motherboard type. Also you can see what motherboard intel recommends. You don't have to be concerned about VGA. Only thing you have to make sure of is slot type. I thing you need PCI-E x16 …

If I understood correctly, you have 6 loose wires hanging from a front panel and you have 3 connectors. And ever (colour)/white is one connector. Green/white is the power LED. If you reverse them, led will almost not work. (no harm done) Red/white could be reset button. There is no …

For the Mobo installation, check if you have connected "on/off" switch correctly. Some older systems switch on and of directly from PSU, while today's systems switch is connected to the motherboard. It usualy means shorting 2 pins. For troubleshooting the newborn custom made machine, the prudent thing to do is …

Try clearing the CMOS. Maybe the BIOS set the memory timings wrong. That would make sense with Ballistix. It is a quality memory, but not recognized by most BIOS-es. You might need to set it manually.

Could be dying mobo, or just CPU overheating. With old PC's it could be just about anything. Goot thing would be if you can provoke such event. That would give you a testing method for troubleshooting.

You should enter the BIOS (press Del when booting) and disable the boot screen logo. Also disable the quick POST. That will make your PC to do more checks on POST and you will see some progress instead of the logo. Post here any new info you collect.
