I have an SSL my previous hosting company got for me & it's up for renewal.

I paid them $45-50 & now I just got a notice from the actual SSL people telling me it's $85.

Can someone explain to me the difference in quality in SSLs, how to tell which one I have & is there a cheaper place to get it.

I can go with Go Daddy, but I wasn't sure if I should.

I'm finally signing up for Ad Sense & I'm kind of confused by the 2 options....

Select AdSense for content if you want to run ads targeted to the content of your site.

Select AdSense for search to provide web and (optionally) site search to your users. Results pages are monetized with targeted Google ads.

The first one is self explanatory.

Is the 2nd one just a search bar & when someone uses it & then clicks on a site from that search you get paid?

Also I remember someone telling me that you can make sure your competition doesn't show up in option #1.

How do you do that?

Well unfortunately I decided to go w/ Mambo & it's been hell.

I need to get my web site up & running fast & it's just not happening :(

Now I'm contenmplating whether I should just go back to DW.

The guy who was working on it said he had to redo almost the entire template & he got most of it done, but then he slowed down towards the end of the week & now he's sick & I've been waiting & waiting & waiting.

There are problems w/ the editor & other things, so I started looking for someone else to hire, but no one responded, sooooo, I will figure out by today if I'm going to try & find someone who can do this in DW.

Well, I'm in a pickle LOL

I just signed up for Verisign's Fraud Protection & Buyer Authentication program. In the meantime I was also looking into going w/ a new shopping cart company like 1shoppingcart.com which is a hosted company that was recommended.

They have a ton more features that I need, like an affiliate program, tracking system, ezine capability etc.

I was all ready to sign up & thought I better make sure they are set up w/ the Buyer Auth. program when I found out they don't take Pay Flow Link.

I was shocked & a little pissed to say the least. Seems they had problems w/ Verisign's regular service over 2 yrs. ago. I've never had any problems just to be clear.

So, even though I have a hosted shopping cart right now, they don't offer any of the extra features I want.

I don't want to go w/ a regular shopping cart b/c I like knowing that upgrades are made on a regular basis & tech support is always there if I need them.

Can anyone recomend a very good hosted shopping cart that has all or some of the features I want for a good price. 1shoppingcart's pro package was only $79/month.

Also, I'd prefer a PHP system, but will break down & go w/ an MS sytem if it has everything I need :) Seems a lot of them are coded …

I already know all about CVV. This customer had all the relevant info.

I'm with Verisign, not Authorize.net & I just joined up for their Fraud Protection & Buyer Authentication Program & I will be changing it on my shopping cart & site later today.

From now on I will not be responsible for any chargebacks International or otherwise. I felt it was a good investment.

As for wire transfers, there is usually a $25 s/c that most people don't want to pay.

Now I won't have to worry about that w/ this program & if something goes wrong, then & only then will we discuss other options.

Hi all,

I'm really getting stressed with this dilema.

I've been using DW for the last 3+ yrs. I'm not a WD, but rather a biz person.

I learned the basics of DW & can create new pages from a template, know about editable regions etc.

In the last year b/c a Programmer decided to create pages with .phtml, I've been having nothing but problems w/ DW.

I can't see the design view or the files when I click "open".

About 3 wks. ago I had a programmer create .php pages & then redirect them, so that solved the problem in the interim.

Now, onto CMSs.

I've been hearing about them lately from a few people & I had a WD create a new template for me which I was going to just use in DW, but then she wanted me to start using a CMS (typo3) & she was going to train me on it.

Well typo3 ended up being a hog, so she searched around for another CMS. She found textpattern.

She gave me a very quick run-through & I started creating pages not knowing what I was really doing, but it was never really used. Turns out it infected my template anyway & put code in it even though it shouldn't have.

This WD ended up not helping me to learn it any further, so I figured I'd go back to DW (since I already know …

I would start with www.phpbb.com. But if you plan on doing anything serious with the forum, I definitely recommend investing the one-time $160 into vBulletin. Also check out the "Premade Scripts" forum. :)

Sorry I haven't responded to this thread in a while.

Just so you are aware, Pay Pal does allow people to commit fraud on Pay Pal & it happened to me & Pay Pal just took my money believing the fraudulent customer & not even caring what kind of evidence I had, so who ever told you Pay Pal is safe wasn't aware of how Pay Pal operates & all of the problems that can insue.

I'm still waiting for my money back after the large settlement Pay Pal had to dole out b/c of all the people who sued.

On a more positive note, Verisign has a system I am gonig to start using if they ever decide to take my money LOL Their sales team sucks & my VA is going to get right on that :)

I see this thread is getting no response, so I'll try and jump in.

Far short of being an expert, I'd recommend you use a service like PayPal. PayPal obviously doesn't accept chargebacks, and should provide a safety net against fraud for you.

Manually processing orders to make sure they don't seem fishy is a great way to detect fraud, and from what I've heard, will filter most of it out.

Knock on wood, I've never been a victim of fraud. Good luck …

I just received my very first chargeback & obviously I'm not happy.

As we all know, fraud is everywhere.

This particular customer is in the UK.

What I need to do even though I have been avoiding it, is to sign up for a fraud protection service that is reliable & actually works. Can you please recommend sites/services that you have used that work.

Also, when you have overseas customers & you are in the States, how do you protect yourself?

Do you insist on a real e-mail address instead of the freebie ones?

Do you call the customer first to verify their phone number?

I was on medium protection b/c of out of States customers & his address still verified.

I know Urchin is the best, but the money hasn't come in for that yet.

Ok, ever since I upgraded my computer a bit, I've been having problems with OE where it gets errors that have nothing to do with my server or ISP. It seems when there are too many e-mail windows open, it crashes & I have to shut everything down & start it back up again & then it will send the e-mails sitting in the outbox.

Second, whenever I delete a file from somewhere on one of my HDs, it takes forever for it to delete & then it hangs. I have to open a new "my computer" window if I want to get back in the folder I was previously in.

Any ideas what's going on?

I need to get one of those audio thingies for e-mails, not just for on my site. I have neither so far, but the e-mail one is the most important, as I have a set of instructions & the customers aren't reading them which is causing problems. I guess I could put the audio thingy on my web page too.

Which do you think is better, on the web page, in the e-mail & what companies do you recommend? I know some actually track how long the customer listens to the audio file & does other things too.

My programmer & I need to get rid of the .phtml pages another programmer had me create & make new .php pages.

He wants to:

"use the 404 SCRIPT (PHP file) that will do following.. based on REQUEST to non existing PHTML file it should get corresponding PHP file.. for example.. if requested was recommended_links.phtml then it'll get into recommended_links.php .. and so on.. for any PHTML file.. so SEs will think that PHTML files still exist"

Does anyone understand this & will I be penalized by the SEs?

The only way I have known to work (12 years in the graphic arts industry) is to use true vector art, rather than bitmap. Instead of working in PhotoShop, for example, work in Illustrator.

Wow, I finally got in. Dani's was down for a while. What happened?

The logo name has been changed, b/c as someone pointed out, it had spaces in it.

This is NOT NOT NOT a web page. I stated that in my first post. It's a notepad that I'm going to be attaching to an e-mail to send to my customers.

I took away the CSS b/c/ there's no way for the file to find the CSS since it's not a live site & I'm still having problems getting the logo to show up.

I think I have to make it like this... http://www.mysite.com/logo/logoname.gif

but I don't know what code to put around it so it shows up.

Any advice?

Hi all,

I'm offering a special to my clients & in order to do so, I have to send them the shopping cart link in notepad.

B/c it looked so lame, I started trying to jazz it up a bit, so I added a logo & made the heading a purple colour from my CSS from my web site. When I went to look at the final version, the logo & purple are missing yet the text has changed. :(

I tried uploading it onto my server, but I didn't think that was going to solve the problem & it didn't b/c the file is coming from the HD, not the server.

What have I done wrong?

My web designer wanted me to start using typo3 as a CMS, but now I'm not sure if I should use it. Yes, it seems like a great program, but it's really a hog. Second, I'm getting the feeling that once I start to use typo3 w/ the template, I can't go & use something else like another CMS or DW. Is that correct?

I was using DW b4, but I've been having nothing but problems with it since I started w/ the newer version & using .phtml as an extension.

Do all CMSs manipulate the template so you have to continue using it till the end of that template's lifespan?

Can anyone recommend a good CMS that isn't a hog & does the following...

1. change web copy
2. Create new pages from the design template
3. Add menu titles to the left nav
4. Add in more testimonials to the flash area

I was just told by a SEO that if I want to partner up with another company where they recommend my product/services & I refer them & they aren't my competition (clearly LOL) & their biz is opposite to what I do, yet they complement my company, (let's say they run a limo service), that if they put my link on their site or in their ezine, that Google docks me b/c they are not in my industry.

I think she is equaiting this to link farming which I don't see this being the same. I wouldn't be doing this with hundreds of sites, maybe 10-30 b/c obviously we have to build up a relationship in order to recommend.

I have never heard this b4 & wanted to check this out.

I finally found a new hosting company that I want to sign up with & now there seems to be problems with them understanding what I need.

On my current hosting company I can store my manuals & SSL one level up from my root: /exoticpublishing.com That's also where the log files are. When I asked if this was going to be a problem, first I was told I can't do it b/c it's shared hosting & then when I asked to speak to the techi, he wrote something back I didn't understand at all...
