Thank you very much Catweazle/Coconut Monkey. You have saved me much time searching for a forum where somebody will actually be bothered to answer my problem.

I think I would be better off selling the processor. I shouldn't have too many problems shifting one of this quality should I?

What's keeping you from losing that motherboard?

I mean, you shouldn't have any problem at all selling that chip, but why not just move up in performance, and get a better motherboard? If your system boots right now, use it, and in the meantime, save up and get a better motherboard that supports the 800mhz FSB. Then, sell that old board.

alc6379 120 Cookie... That's it Team Colleague

Thanks guys, very helpful, and yes it is 11X so great guessing.

Not guessing-- just using simple math! :D

alc6379 120 Cookie... That's it Team Colleague

FSB applies to the whole system. Your Clock speed is determined commonly by taking the FSB and multiplying it by the Clock Multiplier.

If your FSB is 100mhz, and your Clock speed is 1100mhz, more than likely your multiplier is 11x. But, in reference to your question, the 800mhz is a minimum clock speed for the system, so your 1100mhz processor should be sufficient.

>Say, what type of sauces would you recommend with that?
Soya is good (and my usual choice because it's also dead easy), so is teriyaki, but if you have the means, I highly recommend using miso soup as a broth. :) I usually like runny sauces for this purpose, but I don't see why something like sweet and sour sauce or just about anything (barbecue? ;)) wouldn't work well.

WOW. I'm better at food than I thought!

As soon as I saw this, I thought, "Boy, that sounds like it'd go great with Miso!"

I'M HUNGRY!

Better yet, why don't I lock the post, let you read the Announcement regarding homework assignments, and let you repost a question specifically asking for help on a particular part of code you've written.

We're here to help you learn, not to cheat.

Somen noodles, the easiest breakfast you'll ever cook.

1 bundle of somen
6 cups of water
1 tablespoon of salt

Boil the water, pour in the salt, toss in the somen, cook on medium heat for 3 minutes. It's good plain or with all manner of sauces and garnish. :)

Sounds yummy! Say, what type of sauces would you recommend with that?

Feel free. :)

>can be a little abrasive at times
Yes indeed, though it it makes anyone feel better (not that I really care), I'm a great deal nicer on other forums.

>he was dead-on
She was dead-on, thank you. Not that I'm anal about it, but people always ask me why I never mention that I'm a girl when they call me "he", and that gets old.

Now standing corrected. I was misled by your avatar-- thought it was indicative of your gender. ;) I mean, we obviously know how manly I am, what being Cookie Monster and all. Heck... now that I think of it, I can't even tell whether the person depicted in your avatar is a guy or a girl!

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but you've probably got some MASSIVE spyware garbage going on. Honestly, I've never seen a good "recovery" from this, even after running spyware removal tools. What you might want to do instead is go into Safe Mode, like Catweazle suggested, back up your stuff, and just go for a Windows reinstall. Then, moving forward, take some of our tips in the Security Forum under consideration.

alc6379 120 Cookie... That's it Team Colleague

It's probably some type of antivirus program, like Norton, or McAfee. I don't know of any Windows feature that does that for you.

alc6379 120 Cookie... That's it Team Colleague

I hope you plan on using one of the braindead windowing interfaces, because with typing like that you won't get very far on the command line.

Oh come on! his typing looks like Linux/UNIX commands already!!!

Under NetBSD:

ln -s /usr/local/etc/rc.d/samba /etc/rc.d/samba

I have trouble making sense of it myself sometimes...

alc6379 120 Cookie... That's it Team Colleague

I don't know whether this is something that Perl can do, but you might be able to use some kind of macro-wrapper program for it, or something. You might want to look at a tool like Perfect Keyboard Pro to automate something like this, perhaps.

I have to write a program that inputs 12 temperatures and the difference of the current and the one preceding it, and I have to write it to a file "out.dat", I have tried writing it using cin, and the ifstream and ofstream, and I can only get it to output 7 temperatures, can you give me some advice or something to help me. this is my first time writing a pragram using files. thanks.

Tomas,

If you've not already done so, (I noticed you had 2 posts under your belt) please start a new thread for your issue. Dave Sinkula already asked another user (the b) to do the same thing-- please follow suit.

alc6379 120 Cookie... That's it Team Colleague

where the hell did you learn this i cant learn any programming things help im a newbie sorry that this does not answeer ur ques wish i could help

thats a bit harsh she only asking for help

...These two posts are kind of off-topic to this thread. If you need help learning something, start your own thread, and ask whatever questions you'd like.

Also, Narue(yes, I'm going to poke at you, Narue) can be a little abrasive at times. But, despite the abrasiveness, he was dead-on. It is of great importance to post a descriptive subject line, as people may actually ignore your post if you don't have a good subject line. It is to your advantage to provide as much information as possible...

...We now return you to your regularly scheduled C programming thread, already in progress...

Midnight Skulke:

Just a couple of FYIs when posting on the forums here:

Firstly, I removed the word "urgent" from your thread title. You post is no more urgent than anyone else's here, and it's rude to assume that it is, just because you have a deadline.

Second, we should enforce this for everyone, but it's especially important when you're posting such long code snippets. Please embed your code in Vbulletin code tags. It's just like HTML; just take your code, and put a [ code] tag at the beginning, and a [ /code] tag at the end. (Remove the space after each [ in the tag-- that's the only way I could get the forum to display the tags.

alc6379 120 Cookie... That's it Team Colleague

OKAY...

I'm with Narue on this one. Even if it's not you, this type of ploy is widely used to get your assignment done for you. In the interests of keeping that junk off, I'm closing this thread.

Let's keep things civil. To hopeolicious: If you call someone a name like that on the forum again, you WILL be banned, no questions asked, no explanation given. Consider this post to be your final warning. We don't take personal insults or flaming lightly on this forum.

Do you get any error messages when you try to play media with any of those players?

alc6379 120 Cookie... That's it Team Colleague

Have you all solved your computer problems?

If not please post a fresh log in here and i will tell you what you have been infected with and what to remove and do to solve ALL your problems

I am not sure if there is a Hyjackthis log specialist here? but there is now .

I'm not really a HiJackThis "specialist", but I can hold my own in reading them. But, DaveSW is right-- I can solve pretty much any issue I come across; I am testing the general effectiveness of the spyware tools that a user is generally recommended to use.

alc6379 120 Cookie... That's it Team Colleague

Also, one of the biggest causes of the Virtual Memory Low error is a memory leak in some type of spyware programs. I'd also consider trying some of the steps mentioned in my sig entitled: "Read this before posting *any* HiJackThis logs in the Security forum" It's got excellent tips on spyware removal.

Actually, I've been told that the Xbox's OS was just a modified version of Windows 2000. I mean, the Xbox is basically a Pentium 3 system, after all.

But, I've never heard of anyone running the Xbox's operating system on a PC. I doubt Microsoft would release that on an installable media to the general public...

alc6379 120 Cookie... That's it Team Colleague

This is a double post. You already posted this question here. If you still need help, just bump that post.

alc6379 120 Cookie... That's it Team Colleague

hplz...........help........quick

Um. To start, please read the Announcement on homework in the forums. This program is very, very easy to write, and shouldn't take too much for you to do if you just read your C programming book. Write something. Then, if you need help, post your code here, and we'll help you troubleshoot your code.

Secondly, NEVER request members of a forum to respond "quick", or quickly. Doing so implies that your problem is more important than someone else's who was here before you; therefore, it's considered to be very rude. On the forums, people are responded to in the order they posted, or when someone knows the answer.

tried NewEgg?

alc6379 120 Cookie... That's it Team Colleague

http://www.newegg.com/app/viewProductDesc.asp?description=13-128-241&depa=0&manufactory=BROWSE

thats the one I found for now, I have a few questions.

1) is Gigabyte good?
2) whats the advantage of dual Bios?
3)Should I look at another motherbaord because, this one has a defect that it only lets 1 stick of ram run at 400Mhz the other stick has to run slower.

  • I like my Gigabyte board, though I don't have that exact model.
  • Dual BIOS is cool because if you say, kicked the power to your box in the middle of a BIOS upgrade, you'd have a backup one. Also, you can have a "known good" BIOS revision on the backup BIOS, and then run the latest BIOS on the main BIOS. If there's some bug in the latest BIOS revision, you can boot using the old one. It's pretty neat, IMHO.
  • Where'd you get that information from? Was that something that one of the Newegg reviews posted? As always with those things, YMMV.

I wouldn't say Gigabyte boards are the end-all-be-all performance monster, but if you just need a board that works, Gigabyte will be great.

alc6379 120 Cookie... That's it Team Colleague

Did you use Thermal paste? Have you gotten your Heatsink on right? Is the fan on the heatsink running?

Those are just a few things I could think of. To isolate the issue, try running the system with the case side off, turn off all of the case fans, and just let the fan on the heatsink run. The key is just to make sure you've got good, even contact, and a thin layer of thermal paste between the CPU and the heatsink. If you didn't replace your CPU, be sure to clean the old paste off the chip, and reapply new thermal paste.

alc6379 120 Cookie... That's it Team Colleague

Personally, I'd go for the CRT if I was to be gaming frequently. IMHO, the images tend to be more crisp on the CRT. Besides, even though it's bigger, if it's cheaper, you'll probably end up with a better value in terms of quality/screen size.

alc6379 120 Cookie... That's it Team Colleague

Guys, stop posting your email addresses in the forum. If you really want an invite, email one of the people stating they have invites (I'm one of those people), or wait for somebody to post more invite links.

If you don't end up getting one, you've just posted your email address for everyone, including spambots, to harvest your email, and send you whatever they want. I, on the otherhand, wanted to get spam, so that's why I posted my gmail address.

Besides, if you can take the time to post in this forum, couldn't you take the time to email someone?

add: Don't PM me for a Gmail invite-- just email me: alc6379@gmail.com

alc6379 120 Cookie... That's it Team Colleague

Heck, if someone has really "hacked", ie, compromised your system's security through intrusion, I'd just back up my data, wipe it out, and reinstall. That way, they couldn't have left any programs there, like keyloggers, or other tools.

But, that's assuming that you were really "hacked". More than likely, you're just a victim of spyware or a virus. Is there really anything that important on your machine that someone would want to steal?

A motherboard that fits AMD and Intel, hmmmmmm, anybody wanna throw a predicted price at me on how much it would cost?

There aren't any, not anymore. You aren't going to find a recent motherboard that supports both.

But, if you're into Socket 7 chips, (like 200mhz and the like),you can pick up those boards on eBay for cheap, I'd bet.

alc6379 120 Cookie... That's it Team Colleague

Go into Control Panel, and uninstall anything related to Wild Tangent.

Wild Tangent is a component used in a lot of online games. Some do say it's spyware, while others "depend" on it, because they're addicted to those little snooker pool and card games that Wild Tangent drives. If you don't need that junk, uninstall it.

alc6379 120 Cookie... That's it Team Colleague

No. Never has been, never will be. The technologies and internal architecture of the processors are entirely different.

A motherboard which did that would really be TWO motherboards!

Actually, I thought that initially, AMD was pin-compatible with Intel. That was WAY back in the day, though, and I've even forgotten which chips they were...

All I remember was that AMD was coming out as a cheap Intel replacement, and then they eventually moved into their own light, and moved into their own socket format.

Hi there,

this is a very interesting idea that you have, and I'm sure someone will be able to help you here, but in the future, please consider this. Claiming your situation to be more "urgent" than someone else's on a forum is rude. These other members made their post before you, so simple chronology makes them have more precedence. To say your issue is urgent might be counterproductive; some of our best forum members might ignore your post, thinking you're rude.

So, in the future, for your own sake, please don't indicate urgency in your threads.

alc6379 120 Cookie... That's it Team Colleague

When did this start happening?

It could be power, like mikeandike22 mentioned, but I'm just thinking the card's dead. If this persisted on another system, then I'd definitely think the card's dead.

The card's not new, is it?

According to my trusty Python Pocket Reference, it's the input() function:

input([Prompt])

Where [ Prompt ] is the string you would want to prompt the user with, obviously. So, from what I can tell:

foo=input('Please enter a value:')

I'm rusty, but I think that would print Please enter a value:, and assign the user input to the variable foo. Or, some combination of that should work. Like I said, I'm kind of rusty, but plan on jumping back in to Python Real Soon Now...
