@Chris. At this point I'd call it the motherboard but you changed that too. " I've switched out the hard drive, motherboard, power supply, processor, and graphics card "

Some folk keep their old failed cards, boards and more and then try again later. It ends up in the shop and we find a PC with bad everything. The cost to repair is too much compared to starting over.

Point? Folk have done this and it's a mystery why since the shop fees are pretty steep.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

@S. It's up to you, but I think you need to reconsider the use of textarea since no rich text there.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

If you want what DANIWEB uses just message Dani about that.

It's a markdown editor AFAIK. https://www.google.com/search?q=markdown+editor

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

How can that work? https://www.w3schools.com/tags/tag_textarea.asp does not tell us that textarea supports rich text. Maybe that's why it's not done that way at all.

I think you have to host the content/text somewhere like Google Docs does. Maybe it's a deeper problem after all.

I checked again with a simple example at https://www.w3schools.com/html/tryit.asp?filename=tryhtml_elem_textarea

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

@Chris. Now it's a dead PC. Google "The Dead PC" to find where you start with just a PSU, then a board and NO CASE then work your way up. It's a well done subject and the method I use when it's dead dead dead.

WIth just PSU we use the green wire test and a Volt meter.
With the motherboard we are not booting up but testing for power up of each PSU leg under load and a Voltage check (including the CMOS battery level.)
As we put in one RAM and CPU+HSF since it has onboard video we hope to see the BIOS and video come up.

That's the summary method of working The Dead PC.

As a programmer your first lessons were usually about basics like parsing. So to get the site information I always turn to wget then parse what I want from that. https://www.google.com/search?q=wget+for+android finds it's been ported.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

Or change from a for loop to a while stack-size>0. Less variables, etc.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

Have you tried another GPU (graphics card)?

Yes you listed it but were not specific. That 770 is pretty old now.

Think carefully about line 29. As i is counting up, stacksize is counting down. What do you think will happen?

@davy. It's a commercial app, first one on a list so if they didn't answer your question, move to the next one. Too bad you weren't on Android and possibly iOS where it appears some speech to text shows up in your apps.

I think it's worth repeating. I fear you are going to have to get into a paid app for this one unless there's some Google voice, Amazon Alexa or other integration I'm not aware of is out there.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

That on Android might be native to the OS. But Laravel? https://apiant.com/connect/CallFire-Record-to-Laravel and other solutions appear to cost.

@Stefan, at that quantity you can get them in the few dollar range. https://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/mini-read-only-usb-flash-drive_1716327141.html for example. There are others. I hope you can research this from here on out.

@chris. If you want to remove the apache2 directory why didn't you remove it. Your choice of rm or GUI.

As to know how to install it, you shared only 1 of the 3 install commands. I see the purge command was shared along with xampp.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

Your question has me thinking about FFMPEG. https://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/FFMPEG_An_Intermediate_Guide/image_sequence covers this and I bet you can automate this.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

Just a note about formatting. Your code has a lot of commented lines and blank lines. This slows others and me from dissecting what's amiss here. You'll get more replies with clean code and telling what line you found that blew up.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

@chris. I'm not there to dive into your apache but the answer there looked good. That doesn't mean it is the answer to this one.

FIRST, never assume your files are going to survive. Why folk haven't learned this lesson is a mystery. If you have pages or folders you want safe, then copy those to backups.

SECOND. Try the LAMP install steps at http://howtoubuntu.org/how-to-install-lamp-on-ubuntu It's more than the single apt-get you wrote here.

@Chris. 2 things bother me about your last post.

  1. CNET doesn't have this app but download.com and they messed up a few too many PCs with their downloaders.
    Read https://www.howtogeek.com/198622/heres-what-happens-when-you-install-the-top-10-download.com-apps/

Download.com plays this down by writing that was years ago. So you first Mikey.

  1. That app doesn't seem to work on Linux, iOS, Android or "OTW" (other than Windows."
    Do you have another solution?

@Alex. As a manager you would manage by adding team members that can do this work.

Also, if it is an open source project, where is your web page about it?

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

@Alex. Yet another language? Why not share this new language first to see if folk will adopt it?

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

Your choice to start such a project but there are now plentiful IDE's for coding today.

Let's call this a wheel. How is your wheel going to be different?
Why would I use your IDE?

I take it something was missing from:

  1. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_integrated_development_environments
  2. https://www.g2crowd.com/categories/integrated-development-environment-ide

Also, what about no install systems like IDEONE.com?

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator
rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

No need to drain the battery. I start simple. Power off, remove the battery, press and hold the power button for 60 seconds, release and try again.

After that I'll measure the CMOS battery. If you don't have a Volt meter then you replace the small battery.

There are those that balk at this few dollar try because it's not a sure thing. Send those folk to the repair counter.

Next if it's not better, power off, remove battery and remove anything you can. The ODD (optical disc drive), all RAM but one, WiFi card, and even the HDD. Repeat the test above. At this point you are at the end of simple end user items and have to look at getting estimates.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

As this is all about programming, read the 34 warnings and errors at https://validator.w3.org/nu/?doc=http%3A%2F%2Fsportspull.com%2F then start working to remove those.

Imagine your store front with a dirty sign and welcome mat.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

My thoughts on this sort is to use a ready to use wheel from https://rosettacode.org/wiki/Sorting_algorithms/Merge_sort
While it's fun to create from scratch, sometimes we need to get it done.

As to your code, use the usual breakpoints in your IDE.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

@KM not at all rude. I do have apps in C# and found that styles only appled to just a few things but not the window. So as xrj writes about adding a myWindow class to make an app wide style, it's not styles in the strict sense.

As to points, have a few in kind?

KushMishra commented: Thanks, I'll surely consider this +4
rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

I was refreshing my reading on styles and this passage kept coming up. "apply styling to your controls" as in the style is all about the controls and not the window itself.

What are you reading?

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

Why the aversion to x key? I read http://www.wpf-tutorial.com/styles/using-styles/ for my primer on application wide styling.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

Is the ERD correct? I'm going with no for the reasons I questioned above. I do know folk that try to enforce rules by database design but that's their choice. Here I have my app plus database to meet the specs.

-> There are items I worry about if this was to ever go live. Such as who checked out and how. Here the checkout can be by key drop or another reason. That's just one omission in the database, so you need to forget the idea this database will emerge unchanged as the development progresses.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

That's a start. Shouldn't there be code between the database and the screen that completes your requirements?

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

Read https://www.daniweb.com/programming/threads/435023/read-this-before-posting-a-question first.
If you are shopping for a finished app, be sure to tell how much you are paying.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

I don't see folk giving up code for apps when asked. Please read https://www.daniweb.com/programming/threads/435023/read-this-before-posting-a-question so you can understand how these forums work.

If you are paying for an app to be developed, then you need to tell more along with how much you are paying.

@Lewashby. I'm glad you asked. FAT32 is a Microsoft design.
In case you don't believe me.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File_Allocation_Table writes:

In order to overcome the volume size limit of FAT16, while at the same time allowing DOS real mode code to handle the format, Microsoft designed a new version of the file system, FAT32,

MSFT had many opportunities to break with the past but kept trying to keep older apps and filesystems alive and you see issues like yours when we use that file system.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

I am guessing by the tag you are using Visual Studio. If so, break on line 9 and examine the contents of the vars.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

While those sound like a collection of questions from a programming class, I see your prior posts so you've been at this for years. By now you know how to do research but this is not why I write. I think you could devote a chapter or an entire book to answer each question.

That out of the way, why these questions? Let's hear more about how these came about.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

That's your best clue -> "two identical files on my desktop".

Microsoft's implementation of long file names is well, a hack that is one for the history books. You found what it was.

Is this a tutorial or example? It needs more work. If there was a question be sure to read https://www.daniweb.com/programming/threads/435023/read-this-before-posting-a-question and try again.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

@G. Yes, and the file system + rsync is not playing ball. Time to try another sync app since a manual copy works. While rsync is open source, it's the OP's choice to dive into the code to find out why. Here, I continue to run into such things and over the years learned to change to other tools when a tool doesn't work for me and I don't feel like opening the source.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

Since you use luckybackup and it has been left with known bugs at http://luckybackup.sourceforge.net/bugs.html I think it is time to find another sync app. However it is open source and you are free to try to fix this.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

I don't know what to write here. Either you left out some code or this is amazing that such a system fits in 58 lines of code.

Next time, tell a little more such as what hospitals have deployed your system.

I think you marked this solved so I'll comment about the CPU dislodgement. I have yet to see that happen unless the owner had removed the CPU or HSF. If the CPU was dislodged in shipping, we usually find big dents in the case from the drops in shipping.

Sadly there are FARMS where you pay for guest posts and other sites like FAKESPOT take you down.

My thinking here is Google will eventually use something like fakespot and your paid posts will burn your site's ranking.

Don't try to game the system.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

Hi Mikky.

I see a lot of folk ask questions that have prior answers, discussions and well, how to repeat all that or why repeat at all?

Then the last question is the magic question. The moment folk figure out how to rig the ratings, the rating system changes. This is why many write to stop chasing ratings but deliver great sites and products. That is what matters.
