First, there are so many code samples of apps on Android to MySQL that I worry that is not your real question. So "best" is best defined by you. Anyhow, here's one code sample. http://sampleprogramz.com/android/mysqldb.php

Seems fine to me.

@Stefan, since Opera's VPN is drop dead easy, works and free, it's all I need. And again, why pay?

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

@Stefan, then you are asking for a ready to use bot? You either hope for someone to search for you or do your usual google search.

Remember that for each blog the code may have to be tailored to each site and should break as the owner changes it to lock out bots. This means you can't use existing bots most of the time. That is, for very good reasons, bots are usually unwelcome on blogs, forums and more.

So far, everytime I find a bot, it's a spambot.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator
rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

That's the message but does not tell me how to cure. As I read https://www.google.com/search?q=Welcome+to+emergency+mode! I see many fixes but not one.

Did you fsck everything?

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

Wouldn't that create blogs only commented on by autobots? Or spammers? This would lead to a new Captcha or blogs with more checks.

PS. You also need to avoid asking for full up code solutions. Show your work so far and where you are stuck.

As you want to get your files out first, you NEVER write to that drive until you have your files safe. This is the first rule of data recovery.

So get your host PC working on another good drive and then install Recuva from Piriform. Now plug in that drive we need to recover files from and see what Recuva can find.

Once in a while someone wants to recover their drive without data recovery or other drives and all I can write is they are pretty new to this field. If they continue writing to that drive, recovery hopes dim and fade.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

While you should type it again, before you do, why not turn on autosave? Here's how for a few Word versions.
https://www.google.com/search?q=Turn+on+autosave+in+Word

And let's make this a learning moment about how to get fast answers to common problems. Try these articles:
https://www.google.com/search?q=What+if+I+forgot+to+save+my+Word+document%3F

Did you see how I looked for the prior answers?

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

Happy 150th to you as well. Sorry I'm just a part time Canadian resident as I lived in Richmond, BC for many years.

Good times and educational.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

BTW, I did read a few priors from https://www.google.com/search?q=ValueError%3A+too+many+values+to+unpack+%28expected+2%29&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8 and you might not be able to use print in such a case.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

So it is the print in line 33? Try writing df['clean'] to a file to see if that shows another error or why it blows up on a print.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

I think I failed to ask the right question.

What is line 33?

Why I ask is because in your top post, line 33 looks benign as in should not cause this error.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

I can't guess why the OP copied an old post. All I can share is this did happen on other forums. A new member joins and apes old posts or even new ones. Very strange.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

Line 33 is print(df['clean'])

Try again and make your posted code line up with the error message.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

Pasting the assignment verbatim? Read https://www.daniweb.com/programming/threads/435023/read-this-before-posting-a-question then tell the forum what line is in error or what the problem is.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

Welcome back! https://www.daniweb.com/members/1135520/nancy-9/posts finds you asking a lot about SEO. I think there are priors about this so I want to share how I do my research. I use words that are on the subject like this one:
https://www.google.com/search?q=How+to+do+an+image+submission+in+SEO%3F

Well that does give me a lot of ideas if I ignore the obvious spammers.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

I agree you are hiding too much. How about one thing. Did you open a SQL command line and see if the server is running?

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

A quick glance finds "<canvas id="snapshot" width="120px" height="80px"" so if you were to take a screen capture the image may be just that. 120 by 80.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

@S, you can test my theory by doubling the width and height. If that works, well, back to the drawing board.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

I'm going to write no, not worth it. Why? From https://www.quora.com/How-much-money-can-an-Android-developer-earn-from-a-free-app-on-the-Google-Play-store I read this.

200000 installs in and earned around $1500. Although it was called an interesting game and is highly rated, most users stopped playing it after a day or two.

That was over 2 years so unless you have the next Angry Birds, it's just not going to pay off for some time.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

It's a sadly common problem. Remember I take this post as sincere and not a shill posting about Access repair tools which anyone can google about.

-> As an author not only would you write the app but educate the users about backups and more. On your part you can consider buidling backup into your app. For example you might design this to copy the database at start if it opens successfully or on exit. We all know Access databases creates business for recovery companies and sadly those repair.com sites.

In short, they need to pull their last good backup copy and move forward.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

Everybody starts somewhere. Here you need to present your problems with care. The code you pasted was sloppy and could have folk slagging you on that.

You want quality answers so put quality into the question first. It's hard to add later.

Read https://www.daniweb.com/programming/threads/435023/read-this-before-posting-a-question then try again.

When I start looking at code or pages I always check with some LINT checker. In your case the findings at this link:
https://validator.w3.org/nu/?doc=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.renardwatches.com%2Fpages%2Fpr-fw17
show a few too many errors. Clean those up and then see where it lies. Also, see what others offer here.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

To test this out I tried my profile and it seemed to work.
Then I gave you a +1, checked your profile, clicking on the "thumb up" icon and it worked.
So back to this thread, gave it a thumb down, back to your profile to click on the thumb down icon and worked as expected.

Then I removed my up/down and checked your profile and no up or down thumb icon.

Let's hope someone can replicate this and my apology if I messed up your new account by my testing.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

This may be working as designed. That is, you put the image in that canvas, width and height so that's all the pixels your are going to get when you upload. Try a much larger width and height.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

Could be too easy. Lately my two GO TO SOLUTIONS are:

  1. NTPASSWD. Widely documented, free, takes about 5 minutes to reset the password.
  2. The old Accessibility trick. Free, widely documented, try this link. https://www.technibble.com/bypass-windows-logons-utilman/

I've used Windows 7, 8, 8.1, 10 boot DVD/USB sticks for method 2.

@K Step back and stop coding. Really! When you design an app you sketch it out first. Then you can thing about code.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

As the student you write the entire program. As in most forums, members will help you understand why some code isn't working.

In short, write the code. If we write the code, you would not be learning how to write code which is what the class is all about.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

@K, Same as your other post. Very odd incompete response without telling where you are stuck.

I have to ask the following. Are you asking forums to write this code for you?

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

@K, You pasted some code but it looks incomplete plus you didn't tell where you are stuck.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

I worry about the age of this machine. BE AWARE that similar models, refurb are selling at the near 200USD price point so parts and repair is unlikely. Just get another that is working is my advice.

http://computers.woot.com/forums/viewpost.aspx?postid=7152497&ref=cnt_odet_tc_jtd was such a deal and I bought 2 for the office here.

Here's what looks to be your exact model for 220USD. http://www.officedepot.com/a/products/372068/HP-EliteBook-8460p-Refurbished-Laptop-14/

Shop counter fees here start at 150USD so my advice is to replace it if canned air cleaning or an OS reload doesn't clear it up.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

That's too little to work with. Read https://www.daniweb.com/programming/threads/435023/read-this-before-posting-a-question and then add enough detail for members to chew on.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

@OP, this is either a job up for grabs or homework. Please read the link JC gave along with clarifying pay for the work or if homework, show your work and where you think you are stuck.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

This reads either as a paying job or homework. In either case Daniweb encourages you to show your work so far, and where you are stuck.

If you are hiring for a software app, post that detail and the rate of pay.

Please read https://www.daniweb.com/programming/threads/435023/read-this-before-posting-a-question then complete your post and question.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

Then you need to write code to respond to your button click. Said code will find what was clicked and update just those rows. This is your code to write.

I do know folk that make screens like yours which doesn't take much code at all if any but to get what you want done, it's time to write code.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

Here's the deal. vb.net can use quite a few databases so you need to share more. My last setup was for MySQL for the database server since we wanted to scale up.

Your question is also, not one but a few. Break it down to a few questions along with what database you are using.

-> As to updating one database from another, here that's a spin on the old question I placed in this google.
https://www.google.com/search?q=sql+update+rows+from+another+database

Now about your checkmark version, that would not be the update from another database by code written by you to respond to the button click and do the work. In otherwords, another question as I read your post.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

I wonder if you used a language translator. I've read similar from others while overseas. No big deal really but you may want to translate it back to your language to see how bad the translation is. Or have others that read English tell you how bad it was.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

First off I let this question season since I'm not a python guru. But as I code in many languages the error looks to be that something expects an integer and that's it.

Read https://stackoverflow.com/questions/28036309/typeerror-list-object-cannot-be-interpreted-as-an-integer to see if this kicks the problem loose for you.

I can't tell which line is in error so I can't do much else but agree that the error message is telling us what is wrong.

What does worker in range(network.hosts) require? Some IP address? That may not be an integer but something like 10.0.0.2 or IP notation.

Here's an idea, you can ping by integer. Here's how. http://www.aboutmyip.com/AboutMyXApp/IP2Integer.jsp

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

@Obbie. You have yet to break your design down to steps. For example you ask how to press the button and folk have replied it depends on the make and model of the scanner. You're stuck on the first step.

I shared a scanner I own has no published way to press the button and a possible robotic button pusher and here you are again asking for what appears to be the same question up top.

Until you supply a make, model scanner no one can answer how to push its button. But even then folk might not tell you. Why? You don't seem to be working the problem. You seem to want the code.

There is no code. You must write that after you see if your scanner supports such a button press.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

@n. Simulation will not reveal the issue I noted about TCP, cellular carriers and transitions from tower to tower. Only your newest of the new would think simulation will reveal that issue.

Another area simulation won't uncover is the data use and charges.

As to road, I've written enough on the direction your designer took. That's the road. I fear you won't learn except by experiencing the issues first hand. That's OK. And how most folk learn this system.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

Just one thing. Be sure to put the devices into every car you can and test as long as you can. I've lost count of efforts like this where they try to design it but forget the real world testing. That's where the TCP method should show breakage if there's a problem there.

Still wonder why you went down that road since it tends to be costly. That is, if you are competing with another company they would have a price advantage.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

How? My first stop would be https://www.google.com/search?q=make+a+robot+to+press+a+button to see if folk have ready to use button pushing robots.

Huzzah! There are many to choose from!

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

@n. I can't tell you since it's been a few years since we went to press. Maybe the mobile carriers got better.

Remember I defered to priors about thousands of connections in Java. https://www.google.com/search?q=thousands+of+tcp+connections+in+java

I'm not going to rehash priors and discuss with you areas I'd worry about.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

@n, thanks for telling me about the team. I do think you may run into some awful issue with TCP/IP only. My contact went pretty deep why but for the most part it was all about cost. I saw issues with holding a TCP connection open and then the mobile client moving from tower to tower. I never heard if the OSes and carriers found a way to fix it so your apps don't have to handle that.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

@n. There are so many priors about handling multiple connections that I won't broach that here. For such a big design, I think you need to do more research, code more, test more and talk to my contact on the system I worked on.

You could have left out a big secret like this was your homework, thesis or something else. For such a big system you never find a team of one.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

Hello Kerri,

I can guess if you wanted to hire a programmer or it's homework. Take a moment to consider better titles then read https://www.daniweb.com/programming/threads/435023/read-this-before-posting-a-question to get the best responses.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

I see the testing tips were given so my advice is to craft up your tests now as best you can.

-> I want to broach another subject as well. We found that no single client went over a few thousand vehicles. This meant we could spread the load to other virtual servers and databases. Let me be clear.

NO CUSTOMER wanted their data mixed into a "central" database. They wanted their data to be their data. This is another factor in why you'll never get over a few thousand clients per database.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

@N, TCP only? You're headed towards a small disaster. I can't know what product you are using and if your device's coder learned about this and took steps to mitigate it. We went UDP and our own protocol to competely avoid that issue plus drop communication costs.

Look at the byte count on a simple (?) open close of a TCP socket and then how may byte (cost) of the UDP send. Since our system is cost averse we needed UDP and then our own protocol. There are companies that go TCP and you see it affect the monthly fees.

-> About the testing. I see you have replies above and it appears you are in the market for more team members. In short (again) start testing. You have no CPU limitation from what I see from your top post.
