I took a moment to read all your posts and still read the same question. You want to know the right answer to an online CBT (course) and maybe just maybe you are slyly asking how to cheat the test. That is, maybe you think by examining the asp.net, HTML, javascript code you can get the right answer.

Frankly that's just a bad idea as when you get a job, that won't help you as you never learned the subject matter.

Then the right answer to the test is the answer the teacher programmed into the test. No one but the teacher will have the right answer to the test but you can use the course material to learn about the subject and give you the best chance of picking the right answer.

Ahh, now I see it. That old system required a lot of runtimes besides what VB6's packager would kit up for you.

I lost count of the broken bodies and minds when the author discovered they needed to install MS Access and a VB6 runtime to get their "simple app" to run.

The cost of their app was a big more than they expected.

The answer would be in the classes and books used to teach the class and in the code behind the tests. I hope you are not asking how to reveal the answers to a test.

This is a tough one. That web server database should have some API and other examples. As it stands your post is too vague but before I'd code line one, I'd want the web server's API in hand.

I was researching that t-while error and it does appear to happen when the statement is incorrect in some way.

Either you want to sync or you want to create a symbolic link. Mixing terminology is where I have to write it's time to get that clear first.

If you want to sync and rename folders along the way, you'll have to add more lines to your script to do this. That is, if you have 4 folders to sync, 4 lines in your script.

Sorry no, I have never seen a symbolic link do what you asked so far.

As to robocopy not picking up all folders I think more inspection of permissions on the source folder is needed as well as checking your robocopy syntax. I think you are close to getting it to sync.

Let me share I don't fret about this unless it goes on for about a month. Also, any competing security app could interfere with Defender so for now my advice is not fret and wait it out.

@Siberian, if I remember your prior conversations you want to sync folders and now want to exclude a subfolder from the sync.

Symbolic links have little to nothing to do with what you want to achieve and can send us into the void.

So if I forget symbolic links altogether and restate the goal as:
"Sync two folders EXCEPT for a specific subfolder" then you might find a way.

That's going to be very tricky. You would have to tweak ownership and permissions just so (sorry no, I bow out on that) and disallow the user access to that subfolder.

This is so tricky that I'm going to write it's just too much to setup and maintain unless you are fluent with both NTFS and your server's permissions.

@Ram, while I have written too many apps that use the serial port in C (PalmOS), C# (VS2008), VB6 and maybe others the errror doesn't jump out to me.

I do worry why you used CheckForIllegalCrossThreadCalls though. That is discussed in prior discussions as something to not use.

Most of us know VLC Player will handle Video DVDs and unprotected Blu-Ray but so far in years I've yet to find an unprotected Blu-Ray title.

Be sure to watch for what media you want to play when you first launch this player. Many folk miss that and gripe later about it taking over the audio duties.

I've used IAR compilers and tools before but the answer will be specific to your hardware and target CPU.

But here's the thing. I only use assembler when I must. This is from someone that wrote an assembler and linker and has experience on too many CPUs.

Anyhow, here there are no computer classes that use VB6, Turbo C. I'm only talking about US and Canada where I have professors and scholars I have chatted with over the subject of old systems.

They pretty much agree that learning the basics of programming, such as variables, classes, methods, "readable code" is the way to go. If the student wants to get in to arcana then they hit the web and search for old books.

Back to the OP. They claim they want to make a seminar on how to use the API in C and VB6. My thought is "back to the web" for examples and then use 2 examples for each language and then slides on how to find out more. One of the things I find new students sometimes forget is how to research today. Some are snowflakes and melt or explode when you show them how to research today.

This forum is all about trying to solve issues but for tutorials and teaching you go to your classes, your teacher if the topic is not clear and then consider dropping this class if you are not prepared for it. That is, classes you took prior to this one prepare you for such an assignment.

While I have some knowledge about C and VB6, it's fading since it's been about a decade since I updated a legacy app for the very last time.

For you, it's back to the teacher to give you what you should do next. That is, what google's to try, what books to try to find (most on this subject are out of print) and maybe best to have a talk with your career counselor about a drop and replace this class with something better. VB6 is very dead here.

As to the C and VB6 seminar I would not attend since VB6 is now 17 years old and support ended in 2008. I haven't seen it for sale in over a decade. Can you reveal where there is a market today for this? That is, why invest your time in such an old thing?

I suggest you forget this seminar and move to C# and VB.NET and how CLR works.

Caveat. I don't write in that language but have too many years coding for embedded systems (single chip to single board computers.)

So you want to "do this." Let's break what you want done into doable steps. That is, mindful of the goal your first step would be to select your Arduino that has an interface to read your Weather station and then can output/drive that LED strip.

That's your first step. The actual code size should be trivial so I don't think you'll need more than a standard size Arduino CPU shield.

OK so what about the code? Again, break it down to doable steps.

To keep from getting discouraged you can try driving the LED strip first and write something that sets LEDs according to say an array content. If you have 16 LEDs then put 1 or 0 in the array, to set the LED on/off as you wish. This routine is a good warmup to the other piece of software.

Second part. Read the Weather station wind direction. This for most will be the hard step. Once you can read in the position then you can zero out that LED array and set the locations as you wish then call the LED on/off routine.

OVER OPTIMIZING.

That is, in a commercial environment you run the risk of dismissal if your code is just slow all the time as well as you spent too much time optimizing. It's a sliding scale of how much to invest (time or hardware) versus delivering a working MAINTAINABLE app(s).

It does not one any good if you have the fastest implementation of a zed core reduction function when no one can understand what you wrote. (Nod to APL and the one line of code for "Life.")

So let's say your code runs, you optimized it and it's the end of the week. It passes muster, time to ship it.
