@K

I took has to read it more than once to see what the alternative was about. That said, why not add debug code after the dialog about line 11 and write the strings to a file so you can check it out?

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

You tried the Control Key method but it looks to have failed since I read no mention of the dialog box that pops up. This is why I don't use that method but the older reliable command line. Picture at http://i.imgur.com/bJhU4uV.png

How I start Word in it's safe mode. I use a the run box and use Word's safe mode that way. The command varies with version but here it was.

WINWORD /A

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/210565 covers the others.

I know it's rough on folk but here we are with many posts and we haven't accomplished the first test I try when I see an issue like this.

Is the command line a thing of the past?

I apologise here but "select" does not delete. Delete deletes. What I think you need to focus on is what you are trying to do here and practice your SQL commands till you nail it.

If I wanted to delete, well that's an entirely different command.
If you wanted to only select a specifc record set, then you work on that.

I took a moment now and looking at your other posts it reads as you have shilled and spammed for Hola.

It's out there now so back to you. IDE to me has never meant "engine." Google agrees:

Here it was simple. We found that the count of Windows Phone users in our group to be in the single digits so the effort would have been expensive per user. We could give them a phone that the app was on and it would cost less.

Blackberry is dead too. Back then BB was asking for notarized applications and more. It was nothing short of amazing what they wanted. Fast forward to today and BB is on life support.

My advice is to get your Android game on.

Some flags to check. Example follows.

C:\>bitsadmin /peercaching /getconfigurationflags

BITSADMIN version 3.0 [ 7.8.10586 ]
BITS administration utility.
(C) Copyright 2000-2006 Microsoft Corp.

BITSAdmin is deprecated and is not guaranteed to be available in future versions of Windows.
Administrative tools for the BITS service are now provided by BITS PowerShell cmdlets.

Peercaching configuration flags:
         Enable download from peers :false
         Enable serving to peers :false

There's more at https://www.secureworks.com/blog/malware-lingers-with-bits but to me I always wanted an off switch for my M5.

This is too similar to your question at https://www.daniweb.com/programming/software-development/threads/504780/need-advice-for-make-enterprice-level-software

I agree this is not the right language for such a project.

And then we have Microsoft which does have versions for projects like this. Microsoft offers seminars and training but here's a thing. I'm encountering folk that think that such a system can be described and taught in 3 paragraphs. Not yet.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

Right off the bat, I think Hola studio gets slammed because of the spammers. Don't go near that one.

Next, you have a fine list of features. But a google on your question finds shills and spammers. Too bad.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

Here's the neat thing about the world today. We have lots of choices but you didn't share your specification.

Is it for low power, gaming, or computation intense like bit mining?

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

My advice is to not do this. Go get an android phone since Windows 7 phone users are scarce. I've encountered 2 in 6 years.
Microsoft also did not plan on OS upgrades for their phones which has lead to their rather low market share.

Our office did consider that line but Microsoft's stance on apps at the time meant we could not deploy apps except through their market app.
As the movie line goes, run away, run away.

Ankur_5, I looked up the members in this thread and most have been away for 4 or more years. One of the things you learn is to not dredge up old discussions like this. Just make your new post and if you feel it's relevant, add a link to the old discussion.

I've heard of this before. The person who claimed this would not take action to get off the internet, would not stop using Facebook and did not move to a simple flip phone. No one could help them.

Did you try google? https://www.google.com/search?q=Design+and+implement+an+application+that+determines+and+prints+the+number+of+odd%2C+even%2C+and+zero+digits+in+an+integer+value+read+from+the+keyboard.+%28j&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8 finds working code from this old homework and you can rewrite the while to be a for loop.

You pasted the class assignment but need to show your work. Asking for the code is the second part of the assignment. The first part is design. Tell us your design.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

Sorry but I continue to not see your write the right words about safe mode. I was trying to avoid a deep cleaning and removal of Word and at the risk of upsetting you again, tell me how you got to this safe mode.

Since the save crashes on E and H, what's different about those?

If a line has multiple braces like }}, I want one of them to go onto the next line. If a line has multiple semicolons like output.println(); data.close();, I want the two statements to show up on two different lines.

OK, in psuedo code.function linebreaker()
if semicolons (more than one) repeat until there is one semicolon
- print tabs and line up to and including the semicolon
- remove characters in line up to and including the first semicolon.
end repeat (until one semicolon.)
print tabs then what left in line.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

So, in psuedocode.

Set up your indent variables, start with 0 or what you what.
Until EOF
- read a line, strip leading and trailing white space. (tab, spaces).
- output the intended spaces or tab plus this line.
- if this line has brace, increment/decrement the indent counter for each brace.

If a line has multiple braces, well that's the coder's intention and we'll roll with that.
As to semicolons, unsure why they matter. Will have to ponder why as they don't affect the indentation.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

I think I could break your formatter with a comment since what if you ran into a commented out line of code and your new line breaker enabled that code.

How about you use your prior code and where you read a line you remove spaces and tabs from the beginning and end of each line?

In other words how would your new formatter know the end of a comment? It would have to make guesses such as "Hmm, a // might end when I find ???" I get the feeling an AI class would have to be made.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

You don't have to remove all add ins. Word's Safe Mode, not to be confused with the OS's safe mode would do this as a test run.

I can't tell if you got that test done.

As to the question of removing and reinstalling Word, that does not work for a reason. Which is, when we remove Word we are not removing settings and addons. Can really upset folk that think this would fix it.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

This looks to me to be another "Pretty Printer" or code beautifier. There are now many old discussions about this plus open source efforts.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

Well bass, a -1 for asking you a few questions and sharing a few ways? If that's a question in the comments, that belongs in a reply.

If that was a question the the comment, then answer is yes. A program (almost always custom) can do that.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

Well, int a is not inta. Why not keep the same variable?

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

"Verrry interesting."

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

You didn't state your problem but well, read what you wrote and it's going to get downvoted.

Maybe this is some homework assignment but you left out all the details so you left folk guessing what the issue is here.

As to not so good with C, you practice and get better. You won't get better if folk write code for you.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

At the risk of other folks ire, I have been around Windows since 1.0. My first program was on a GE 210 so I too am an old dog.

OK, for metered connections recent versions of Windows have settings for that to avoid blowing the limits.
http://www.howtogeek.com/226722/how-when-and-why-to-set-a-connection-as-metered-on-windows-10/ writes:

Setting a connection as metered prevents Windows from automatically using bandwidth in many ways. Here’s exactly what it does:

Read the link for the other items it disables. It sounds like you need to flip this setting to on.

Now there is a caveat about OneDrive but I don't use that as well as not usng the email login so I'm all good here if I setup the metered connection.

Hope this helps.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

The schematic you supplied is not a problem but a design. Your post is getting downvoted for many reasons so next time take time to tell what you need to do, and where you are stumped. Don't make folk decode what you are asking.

That is, I would be guessing you want to implement the logic from the schematic into the C language, but that's me guessing.

Don't make folk guess what your questions are.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

Step 1 would be for you to design this or write your software design document. Many new programmers forget to sketch out what they want and proceed to code first. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/JavaServer_Pages is an interesting read and if I was to tackle this my bet is it's more than one chunk of code but a design.

For example since the diagram there indicates you have a browser on the client, that would be in your spec as well.
That is, who said the notification was via web browser, email, text message or a phone call?

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

PS. I didn't complain you were running XP. I guess you get that from others, not me. in fact I wrote I wasn't going to discuss that.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

About Safe Mode. It's a shame that Word's Safe Mode wasn't called something else. So there is Windows Safe Mode and Word Safe Mode. I know it's terrible but when working a Word issue we have to tell which is in safe mode, the OS or the App.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

Reinstalling Word does not remove addins and settings.

I guess the -1 is because you are upset about something. But did you try what I asked?

Yes we could start looking at the event viewer but let's get the usual out of the way first.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

Small world. OK, the time to do the SMS is pretty fixed in time so to say almost double the speed you need to get a second SMS gateway. You didn't reveal what you are using for the SMS actual sending so I can only comment from my past experience on this.

The cheap fast solution here was to not implement our own SMS but to deal with AT&T for the sending. Spammers tend to avoid that since, well they are spammers.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

Actually most I know have code that fires on click, get the coords with pygame.mouse.get_pos() and then you can do what you will with that info.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

In short, why not try it and find out?

My thought is this would be prone to breakage. And nothing I'd think to put into something I'd want to work 24x7. For me I'd just write it local and put a link to the txt file on my other server or PC.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

While the XP discussions are legendary and folk that don't keep install media and keys may not know what troubles they are getting into, so let's not discuss XP or that.

-> Start Word in Word's Safe Mode. See google if you forgot how.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

To me this still reads as a path and filename issue. Code looks fine but I don't know your file system or test rig.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

That's a mess to read but line 2 has this SELECT* that appears odd since I would have a space after SELECT.

Why are you looping through records? SQL lets us select a set of records and we can apply the change to that set.
This looks like what a first quarter SQL student would write. And no I don't write your code for you.

In short, you need to select your set of records to change. No looping required for this one.

PS. Another lesson your class should cover is to not use "SELECT *". If you only need those columns, select just those columns.
Read https://gertjans.home.xs4all.nl/sql/dont-use-select-star-in-production-code.html among others.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

Matthew,

If that's it, what I call such lookovers is "fresh eyes." There's nothing that looks blatently wrong with the code itself. So I had to step back and look at it for what seems odd. As I don't know your folder structure, I had to guess.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

Let me start reading at line 10. OK, line 10 has this path of "/images/" and then in line 13 you write path + "images/black_menu2.jpg"
So that strikes me as an odd path. Are you sure you have /images/images/black_menu2.jpg ?

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

To me this sounds like our old question of how to merge that many files. While I won't ask why not cat it, I would break it up a little with say 26, 36 or 62 commands in your script. Support I did a..z (a.csv, b.csv...z.csv) and then 0 to 9 and so on.

Remember that this will take a long time since you remember what happens to folder/file speed with you put tens of thousands of files in a folder. You can help it along by putting the merged.csv in another folder.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator
