RSN (real soon now) I'll have a laptop on the office workspace with Linux and a webcam. If you can be more specific about how I need to test this I might look deeper.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

If it works on your PC, then that's something.
If it works on your LAN then that's something.
If it doesn't work from the Internet then that's something.

Remember that some ISPs block all servers so there's something there.

The issue you are having is where many cut their teeth learning "where is the problem?"

I can't fix it for you, but can guide as to how I figure out where the issue is. Once we find where the issue is then we look for solutions. Sometimes folk just want the solution without finding out where the problem is. That's done by paying tech support or calling in help.

What port are you serving on? Port 80 and others are often blocked by your ISP.

The test is pretty simple. The server works on your LAN and even if we put the server on the WEB using the router's DMZ it still fails.
Workaround. Try other port numbers.

It's now 23 years ago that VB6 rolled out. Last year we closed the books on this system for good. It's a pain to install and get working on Windows 10 and then there are issues with the SQL connection.

My advice is to move on.

No need for me to write that. Here's a few dozen: http://www.gtoal.com/wordgames/boggle.html

  1. Try the Compose key method. Noted at https://askubuntu.com/questions/358/how-can-i-type-accented-characters-like-ë

  2. Use an on-screen keyboard. Since there are many "Windows" ways, I can't guess the method you wish.

Finally the answer is no. Windows, Linux and Apple differ. Here's an area they differ. If you wish to fix it, join those OS dev forums and start a new project to make it "work like Windows."

I left out one major character encoding method in computing history. It is called by the acronym EBCDIC. It was at first a 6 bit system and later 8 bits. No accents there.

I'm going to skip writing why these fail or the problems as you scale up.

Even in Windows you can't do this in all apps and the system. For now because "how we got here" many apps such as plain text editors, filenames and more may be limited to ASCII (8 bit.)

If some app does allow UNICODE then there are articles/tutorials for you:
https://duckduckgo.com/?q=type+unicode+in+linux+tutorial

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

I will have to guess again you need a quick recap of "how did we get here."

It all began long ago with the Typewriter then the Teletype Model 33. The binary code behind characters and computers was ASCII for the longest time.

The accents you ask about have never been called SUPERTEXT by anyone but hey, you clarified. To get to other character sets we are now using UNICODE and such. Any decent Word Processor (for Linux try LibreOffice) lets me select such with ease.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

It appears it's like the Sith. Duckduckgo and Google.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

I don't get the point. While I know of super and sub-script, I googled SUPERTEXT and well, what is it?

While you lead with most of the information in your top post, more was revealed later plus I had time to ponder on your issue. This is why there would be a discussion and not a flat out No. Also, there may be someone with a workaround that hasn't been considered yet such as pushing this clientside with a chunk of javascript.

The more I thought about it the clearer it was to me that some server configuration would be required and apparently even that isn't possible.
As such I changed my mind on the answer or rather that any workaround would be too onerous for most to attempt.

PS. Onerous: Involving an amount of effort and difficulty that is oppressively burdensome.

This sounds as if the firewall port work is not done.

Remember that the following is only for testing to see if it's your firewall settings (or port forwarding.) Place this server's LAN IP into the routers DMZ entry then test again. Remove from the DMZ after the test and report back here.

My advice (repeat and expanded follows.

  1. Get the BIOS up to date or the last update.
Remember I can't give you a step by step because such changes with makes, models and time. Work with Lenovo or those that support you where you are if you can't do it yourself.

  2. While you did fine with the pictures there are still submenu items unexplored. Yes this would be something I could look through quickly if I had this PC on my desk or at a coffee shop but here it's a forum so we work with what we have.

  3. Maybe this is too much work. Start shopping for a better machine. I know this class of PC/laptop and VirtualBox will grind along and will upset almost all users I know today.

I'm not an expert in PHP, better call me a newbie and trying to get some help for my problem from experts.

Sometimes even a PHP expert has to admit that a server configuation issue can't be overcome with PHP code.

Since you have more than one choice of servers my answer is to host on the servers that work correctly.

I hope you can supply images of the BIOS sub menus so I or others can see if the setting is there. I know a lot of folk that want "exact" matches on text so you're not unique here. All it means is we'll have to see whats' in the sub-menus.

I'll use the model as "T500 2241" but there is no document found by me that shows the BIOS menu contents. It's time for you to look in the submenus and if they are foreign to you, share images so we can point out which setting.

If there is no virtual or other VT-x setting then it's time to look for a BIOS update. It's not possible for me to give you a direct link or a step by step. My rule on BIOS updates is simple. I never write how. I only write to follow the maker's instruction since my instruction will become dates over time and I don't want to have to find all the times I wrote about this and correct them. So where is that BIOS? Read STEALTHTH's reply at
https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-T400-T500-and-newer-T-series-Laptops/Can-not-find-my-models/m-p/127160?page=1#127367

  1. I'd consider using the += operator on line 4.
  2. To be sure TextBox2.Text is empty prior to the For loop on line 3, add something like TextBox2.Text = "" after line 2.

Read how += works at https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dotnet/visual-basic/language-reference/operators/addition-assignment-operator

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

You have the laptop. So you could have dived deeper into the BIOS menus. Again you have the laptop and as such have it all over us here.

It looks as if you'll have to find support at Lenovo (yes you have to pay as it's so out of any warranty) or try Lenovo forums.

That information (last post) might be useful at a Lenovo forum but here I do not keep archives on PC products. It's a shame this discussion is this long but your lack of information and skipping supplying details means we are at an impass.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

First I do not have a solution outside of you fixing your first domain problems be whatever those are. It looks like you are trying to code around a badly configured server rather than fix the server/service issues.

So why am I writing at all? Because I see cross-origin brick walls looming and you as the developer must be conversant about what that is and why it is the way it is. If you don't know cross-origin issues, now is the time to research that. Plenty written so I'm glossing over what this is but in my reading above, it may apply if not now, in a bit.

However once you figure that out you may want to read https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cross-origin_resource_sharing since it shows us that cross-origin work is possible but (surprise?) it's not just code but server configuration.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

In your case since you can't share the information asked for maybe it's time to take it to a shop or a friend that does PC support.

The images are incomplete. They would need to show all the BIOS menu and sub menu options to see where the setting of interest is. Once in a while I'll find someone that says a setting isn't there but they had yet to explore the sub-menus.

Again I ask:

  1. Tell us the full model by sharing a link to this model (not the series but the exact model) at Lenovo.com.
Why? Because the details so far don't point to the exact model. You have owned this and would have this data.
  2. Share the sub menu content because without the exact model and user manual (may not exist) I can't guess the exact menu/submenu item by exact name to change. This is not unusual because some folk don't know that a BIOS entry for something can have variations in naming.

To your new question as it's not the question in this discussion read these two links.

  1. https://www.daniweb.com/programming/web-development/threads/466734/how-to-publish-an-aspx-website-to-wamp-server
  2. Try https://www.codeproject.com/Reference/1085768/List-of-Portable-ASP-NET-Server if you are not able to host a current IIS.
rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

Put them up on Imgur.com then share a link to the image. Don't like imgur.com? Use another site.
If the images are too big, resize them to say 1080p size.

Maybe this laptop just doesn't support VT-x. I always like to give it my best try but you haven't been able to supply the details required to find out if it's possible with a BIOS setting or update. We know the Core2Duo CPU supports VirtualBox but that's not enough. The BIOS, setting and Host OS must as well. Then you run into limitations of what you can do on a forum.

(Think Ghostbusters) There is no T500 there is only Zuul.

The T500 is a series. Unfortunately I can't decode which T500 model is is even with the Speccy. All the T5x0 models I found at Lenovo have a BIOS update which could be why you didn't find the settings. OR you are looking for "VT-X" and not looking at what else this has been called over the years.

At this point I ask you to supply a link to your exact model at Lenovo.com

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

I don't see anything like VT-x in my BIOS setup.

That's true. I read https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/solutions/ht500006 again and VT-X is not shown. It's called by it's other names.

There's a chance the BIOS is very out of date. Let's check your Speccy report for that.
Yes, the BIOS seems out of date. https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/thinkpad-t-series-laptops/thinkpad-t520/downloads/ds018810-bios-update-utility-for-windows-8-32-bit-64-bit-7-32-bit-64-bit-vista-32-bit-64-bit-xp-thinkpad-t520-and-t520i might be your model.

Sadly you don't seem to be engaged in this discussion. You need to feedback more and not leave us guessing this is some Thinkpad. I usually can figure it out with a Speccy but in this case it's elusive so you must tell us.

Where's the "Reusable Code Snippet"?

When you use this category you supply the code.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

That's something you would put into your code. Handle the loss of connection and if need be save the information locally to be uploaded later.

Maybe you think this is for the form or tool to do? Then code your form or tool to do this. There are a lot of non-programmers that try to create apps without coding. They either learn to code or ask the companies that create no code systems to add the features.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

The first hit on that was Talkini (see google.) After that what you described is not unlike $ex chat services which is a tar pit of offerings.

The answer lies in what PHP Interfaces do for us. Another answer is you don't have to use it. Here's the paragraph that sums up why we would use it:

Interfaces allow you to define/create a common structure for your classes – to set a standard for objects. Interfaces solves the problem of single inheritance – they allow you to inject 'qualities' from multiple sources. Interfaces provide a flexible base/root structure that you don't get with classes.Aug 26, 2006 - https://www.killerphp.com/articles/php-interfaces/

Nothing forces you to do this. It's your choice but it could help if your code has grown unweildy.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

I took a look at https://www.google.com/search?&q=When+to+use+PHP+interfaces and it seems to be well discussed.
