Right click the drive and under properties->tools->error checking, run a full scan (may need to reboot. will take a while). Does that help?

It means it cant find your hard disk. If its a SATA disk (especially one via an add in controller card) then you will need a driver disk.

In the BIOS ensure that MBR/Bootsector Antivirus Protrection is OFF, if that option is present. It stops the bootloader being written post-install. If it is indeed a video error, try integrating your a)chipset and b) ATI drivers using nlite.

If the welcome screen is on it brings up the task manager. if you use the classic login then you get the security box. The task manager is the default bahaviour for xp home (it cant join domains)

Stick in the XP pro cd go to run and type sfc /scannow will check for corrupted system files and restore them from the cd The moral of the story is never ever ever to change your username. it causes big problems.

Not used netbeans for python, but for C++ and Java it rocks. Eclipse in general is a bit more stable under linux than windows, but still eats lots of memory.

I am. Go to the sun site and make sure you download the rpm.bin version and follow the instructions. Give it execute permissions then execute it in interactively the console, and agree to the licence agreement. The script will then extract and install the nececerarry packages.
