Do you have express edition? I know that Visual Web Developer Express (free download) comes with a project wizard for a personal website (complete with photo gallery, login etc...) . Its may be useful to examine the code behind it

yes, remember how xp didnt want to run all our old win95/98 software? its the same thing with vista. Compatibility mode and manufacturer patches udually sort it though.

do you have enough ram? i know that with mySQL (and i assume maybe in your case, with orcale), you get a nasty "cannot connect to socket" error if you dont have much RAM.

I think the reason it worked then didnt is did you upgrade? a new version (i myself use XAMPP) came out recenly and the same thing happened to me. Seems they turned off the short tags as its the new default behaviour?
