Hi, Rather than using wildcards I think you should try using the trim function on the string. However if you have a big table this will be slow (but not as slow as wildcards!). Maybe it would be faster if your numbers after the Z were in a separate column?

There are a LOT of very clever people coming out of the Indian educational system. Intel, Fujitsu, Microsoft, Candence, AMD and Oracle are investing in R&D centres out there. Its not just cheap labour - its cheap well-educated labour. I doubt it will be cheap for long.

The furthest away wine can be is "sudo apt-get install wine". I just think that Mark Shuttleworth doesn't want people to buy a Dell/Ubuntu machine expecting all their Windows apps to work flawlessly; hopefully this will make people seek out a open alternative - usually there are a few options.

Redhat have contributed more code than any other company to the Linux Kernel. They have made massive contributions to Gnome, GCC, GLIBC, SELinux, ext3. They may have some closed source stuff (I'm not too sure about what or how much) but in comparison to other 'OS friendly' companies they have …

I think you slightly misunderstood the press release. Gutsy Gibbon will come with some binary firmware, drivers etc. A new official 'varient' of ubuntu will be introduced that will contain none of the above. Something similar already exists; afaik the Gnewsense developers will assist with the new Ubuntu varient.

The trademarked iPhone is older than any of Apple's i* products so I don't see how Apple can countersue. Apple knew that the iPhone would make a massive splash and it did and now everyone will associate the iPhone with one thing, Apple's iPhone. The only reason Cisco/Linksys's device made …

The fight is not lost yet. The weakness in Blue Frog's grand scheme was the fact that it relied on central servers. A p2p approach would give the spammers no main target. Okopipi is just that. Maybe it will continue where Blue Frog left off

Surely Blue Frog's methodology could be altered slightly so as not to rely on central servers? A peer-to-peer approach would surely work here. With no central targets it would be a lot more difficult for spammers to bring it down.
