Thanks for you input, my intention was just to use the device for storage purposes only, incidentally if I purchased a lower capacity drive say 512GB or 320GB for example would that help further?
i have never see such a large drive in action ,but i see no reason why it wouldn't work as a storage dive ,and as for size it would depend on your need !
This sounds like your power supply unit or internal power management within the laptop has passed. You have two options, 1. Purchase a replacement power supply unit, some of the generic ones can be as cheap as £20 - however if this is not the case then you are stuck with a spare which may not work in a replacement laptop you may purchase in the future. 2. Take the laptop to a reputable local IT company (NOT A BIG ONE THEY WILL WRITE IT OFF as they are generally sales driven!) and ask them to test it for you as they should have access to an alternative power supply unit, have access to suppliers who can get you replacement components for the laptop and in the worse case scenario recover your data.
Where are you in the country? As this is just part of what we do?
good suggestions ,but after 21 days I doubt anyone is listening !lol
surprises me to think you can program, but you cant Google , check the top of this page and go to software development and ask around there
Hey I'm having a slow startup problem myself..It takes like 15 mins 4 the windows to start after the welcome message.. it wasnt always like this untill I recetly installed DSL.. but i dnt think that the DSl is the problem.. my computer also displays low virtual memory warnings.. i checked it out and after firefox there's this SVCHOST.EXE under the username SYSTEM which takes 18, 900 K of virtual memory and there are 5 other SVCHOST.exe image names coming up but taking less space than the above & under the usernames Network service, local service and system .. i checked it out on the net.. and it seems to be harmful but i'm not sure what to do about it...?? any suggestions?
hi ,one of the rules of this forum is to not hijack someone elses' post ,please start you own post
if you are just going to use it as a usb storage device it should work ,if you are going to want to boot to it with windows installed on it then it may not work
because he removed it from the domain
that means it reverts to having only the local admin account, which was set during initial setup.
brain fart !me feeling stupid now!lol
Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware (http://www.majorgeeks.com/Malwarebytes_Anti-Malware_d5756.html) to your desktop.
* Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
* At the end, be sure to checkmark the Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
* If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
* Once the program has loaded, select Perform full scan, then click Scan.
* When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
* Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
* When completed, a log will open in Notepad.
I like an idiot do not know what any of the user names or passwords were before i did that. Help!
this part confuses me ,Why would you not know these things
just for the purpose of seeing what you got running at start up ,why not get hijackthis and scan and post the log
I installed the xp cd, and got all the way to the point where it said to pick which installation needed to be repaired. It showed
1- c:\windows
(press enter to cancel): **command prompt here**
why are you try a repair ,why not format and reload xp

I have a question what is the professional data recovery software do you have and do you share?
they were referring to a professional data recovery company ,not software!

Open Device Manager and on the VIEW Tab, select the Show hidden devices option.
Go down to non plug and play drivers and see if there is one called TDSSserv and disable it
Was that the trogan ?
I am goin to put Avast on this computer instead of AVG. I have updated it also through Microsoft and cleaned out all the old System Restore points.

Hi...
I had a mate have a look and when i suggested taking it apart he said that it cant be done and i would loose everyting and wouldnt be able to use it again if i pulled it apart?
Is there any truth to this?
not sure ,it maybe different, the one i had was just a case with a regular harddrive inside and a few screws holding the case together
i tried to install of the drivers but all of it cant complete installing.maybe its not compatible thats why,and my pc is not sony its sharp, maybe thats why it wont continue its installation, wnat do u think?:-/
sharp, sony wouldn't matter that was just me typing wrong name from memory !
what message if any did you get when it would not install ,there are 2 similar drive files on the site ,did you try both .
Still not satisfied :-)
)
then take it back to the place you bought the drive ,or take it someone who know about computers ,lI really think the harddrive died ,this happens all the time with no warning !!!!
Let me as you this when you did chkdsk /f ,did you remove the 80 and just have the 500 in the computer and run the chkdsk !
a google search i find info saying Cap "713x.sys" is releated to a tv card ,do you have one install ,did you deleted software files or drivers belonging to it !
I would suggest getting latest windows service pack!
more ram for sure ,at least add another 512
gez no hope for my laptop neh....tnx neway guyz.....really appreciated all the effort.......till next thread guyz........
did you try and download and install the drivers i found and linked in my previous post ,that took me about 25 min of searching google for and reading broken Japanese ,for you to try and fix you laptop ,

$$--- Chipset Information...
well sort of ,when you click on the chipset info icon a new screen pops up with this info in it .
Host Bridge : 1106:0204.00 [VIA Apollo K8M400]
South Bridge : 1106:3177.00 [VIA VT8233A]
VGA Device : 1106:3108.01
But that vga device number is not enough to find drivers ,sorry
try uninstalling it from device manager and reboot windows to let it reinstall the drive
no! not to my knowledge ,you would need to install the os from the image
But you can use do it with a bootable linux ,like puppy linux ,burn to a multisession cd\DVD disk, the computer you use it has to have a dvd or cd burner ,everything you do is then burn to the disk on shutdown

I was in FtMac in the late 70's for 2 winters to cold for me !,lol .actually -19[wind chill -24] forecast for here tonight ,-14 right now .
hi, i don't have an answer for you but i will say that winxp hibernation is very troublesome option and not worth using ,in my opinion
If I delete items from the start up menu--will it completely remove them from my computer?
No it will not ,you will just need to open them manually in start/ programs , if you don't know what to turn off at start up then don't use the reg clean program ,
try this program i recommend and use it myself ,start up lite ,
http://www.malwarebytes.org/startuplite.php
and for registry cleaning and temp file removal i reccommend and use ccleaner.
www.ccleaner.com
and you may want to download the malware /trojan removal tool in my signature , malwarebytes and post log back here after the scan .
ok for to find out what the vga device download wcpuid program from this link ,click on the first one, wcpu330.exe 268,491 Byte Win32,http://hp.vector.co.jp/authors/VA002374/src/download.html
unzip to a folder ,and run the wcpuid.exe and then you will see a bunch of icons across the top of the program ,mouse over them and click on the one for chipset info and you will see vga device info ,post it here, or search google for its drivers
. Hopefully some tech wiz has a solution or at least knows what it is thats preventing my computer from fully opening up.
stick around maybe one will come by
go start ,printers and fax[or control panel printers and faxes ] ,and make sure there is only one lexmark printer icon its set as the default .ior go
you could use a hammer ,lol,
or borrow a Vista disk from a friend and use your key
your in the windowsnt/ xp /2000/2003 thread, try the spyware ,viruses and other nasties .oh and for malwarebytes to run just change the name of the download to anything.exe
Hi, you shouldn't need any program or drivers to run it unless you are running windows 98 or ME. maybe something wrong with the elements device ,then drive inside maybe fine ,you would need to take it apart and install the harddrive in a computer as slave to see if you can excess the data
good luck ,i don't think someone is going to come to this thread and say, I GOT ONE ! and by the look of the prices on ebay it would cost a couple a hundred dollars to buy the individual parts !
easy wasn't it , 2 button left and right and pull forward !
12 hrs ,must have a lot of data 1
it is written that a power supply going bad can and does do damage to the motherboard ,i guess like overheating the board by pushing to much power through it ,playing havoc on capacitors and the like ! check board for leaky and or popping capacitors
spyware and trojans are software !
Sorry I figured it out last night, apparently even though formatting the Hard Drive on another computer works, but aparently if the computer you formatted the HD has a higher OS then the one you wish to install it doesn't work(or at least for my computer that was the case), I ended up having to put Vista onto my Computer which doesn't make any sense to me at all, but my computer is running smoothly now. thank you all for your help in fixing my comp.
all you had to do was follow the instructions in the link in Suspishio post and run the windows repair first ,do the fdisk/mbr and then reboot to winxp cd and format it again of run just run the install
you don't just tape the wire ,you have to make sure the 2 wires inside don't touch each other and all you need to do is cut off plug ,go to hardware store and buy a universal plug and connect it to the ends ,and that it, very basic electrical repair
your welcome ,hope it all works out for you
Ive moved it to the spyware and viruses board now.
thank you
the @ is is shift #2 on my keyboard and all keyboards i have ever used , what country /language you using !
anyway go to control panel and under regional and language and you can pick your choice there !
it could be just a dead power supply ,but it could also be a good power supply with a dead motherboard ,so you need to have the power supply checked first !then the motherboard
hi you don't say what windows you are using ,i cant guess, so go here and pick you windows and download sound drivers ,install and enjoy.
