I'm not sure we can blame Dell.
Probably the same people who don't know how to use the first drive.:)
LOL.

somehow i don't think thats the correct answer !
Ti fear that this blue screen errors might appear .
Fear is a horrible thing ,I have a fear of the dark so i leave a light on at night .lol
,be brave and use the computer and worry about it when it returns .
nope
the error mess is in reference to a file belonging to the wireless usb device .

dose the main computer connect wired .
has she been into the routers to check settings ,type this into IE address ,

Thats exactly what i was hoping you wouldn't say. ha ha. Oh well . Everything costs money i guesse.
yeah ,its impossible for anyone here to help you as you don't have a winxp cd,to do the repair needed to recover the system files just a recovery cd, and you say that will not boot ,so not much else to do but put it in the hands of someone who know more !
try going into the video setup where you set the resolution ans up the refresh rate for the blurr, not sure what moving windows problem is ,maybe go the video card makers website and getthe lates drivers if you didn't all ready
fixboot ,won't replace the missing or corrupt system file .your best bet is to reinstall windows ,but first you need to format the drive ,you should be able to boot to the recovery cd ,missing system files should have nothing to do with doing a recovery ,i think it time to take it to someone who know more about computers and your problem
yeah i think i know that case !
glad to hear you have sorted out ,good computing !
just did a quick format from within win98
try a full format ,not a quick in 98if you still get blue screen do it from the winxp cd if you can get that far ,but do a full format not a quick one
when you formated the xp partition did you use the winxp cd or win98 boot disk,or from with in win98 ,anyway did you do a full format or just a quick format ,
disabling on board sound usually is done in the BIOS or mabe in device manager ,but most likely best done in the bios/setup on bootup, look for onboard devices ,where that at in the bios depends on the bios maker .usually in peripheral devices
Thanks casperjack this helped
Your welcome
ok ,when in windows go to mycomputer ,right click on the harddrive icon and go to properties/tools ,and run the disk check ,check it off to fix all errors and then reboot computer to run the check
the one im going to look at again soon has all that grayed out and i cant make any changes there ,i all ready disabled the on board sound and put a pci sound blaster 16 in and there was no change ,
' T repair using recovery console press r' pressing r gives me a dos prompt where i am stuck!
that wre you have to do what it says in the microsoft link i posted above .you are better off taking the harddrive out and slaving it into another computer and copying off your important stuff like pictures .music and any other documents and data you may have saved on it ,and then formatting and reloading winxp .
A live Linux cd ,if it for simple net surfing, would be more secure at such a place ,
Try Puppy Linux or Knoppix, with Puppy they actually have ones that you make that the disk is made in multi-secession mode also, you can actually save info back to the disk if your laptop has a burner in it .
lol
PC won't shut down, keeps restarting
Im sure you could add a bit more info so we can try and help you ,when did it start , how are you shutting it down .with the start /shutdown option or with the Case front power on/off button
My bad mate, i know its a bad habit and i try my best to cut it out but sometimes it just slips out. I understand the forum policy and respect it but i have to admit, bad habits take time to change. Point taken caperjack and will try not to disappoint you.

than you ,any effort would be appreciated by me at least .thanks again .
i am thinking that it could be that agp 8x bandwidth was compromised because of the pci-e 16x videocard slot which is why the errors that are coming up are video card related but the thing is i just got that video card also so it really surprised me when it started happening that could also mean that my videocard i had before wasnt a problem
to me this statement means its the Game ,to much for your video card and agp slot setup ,
Edit : I just did a search of the board ,you have both pc1-e and agp slots ,then i reread your statement ,and now it makes sence you ahd pci-e before ,so why did you change ,were you getting same error with it as now .
That its called overclocking I knew... and seeing Im system engineer I kinda know what Im doing... its just I want to try out, so if any1 has a some advice about it I would like to know
good credentials ,think you would have thought to type overclocking into a.google search .LOL

i guess you should have ,or even done a back up with Fedora before using the utility ,oh well
the only way to know for sure will be to try one ,believe me strangers things have happened when it comes to computer and devices .
go to the hdd makers web site and get a utility for that drive to get it ready for windows install .like maxblast for maxtor drive or seatools for segate hdd.
try it but leave the cd in the drive after the first reboot ,make sure you don't hit any key to boot to cd the second time around .
why are you reinstalling winxp were you having problems
i know you said the mouse works on other computers have you tried another usb mouse on your computer
look in intergrate prefipheral section in your bios ,do other usb devices work in the usb port.
Thanks!
It doesn't happen all the time. (only when I don't want it to) I wondered if it's because something is running in the background.
Right now I have 3 IE windows open, MS Word and Photoshop easily opened without a major change in the CPU usage (except when opening).
Other times I have had everything closed and it would not open.
I'm also dealing with a USB Hard Drive that seems to cause problems with plugged in, even though it shows as empty. I have to recover all the files on that. Could that cause problems like this?
At this point, I'll try anything... almost.
how much ram do you have installed in the computr .
it is possiable i think to remove motherboard drivers and IDE controller device drivers from Comp A install before putting it in Comp B, I have never tried it but i do have a Norton Ghost image of xp pro that was made without the said device drivers and has loaded and run on any computer it tested it on .
open the computers case and check for dust/dirt buildup on the processor fan/heatsinc
also try leaving in the cd.
do a alt+ctrl+del and check the device manager processes and watch what programs are using the cpu
Im getting a computer to fix tomorrow with this problem ,maybe I will find out what is the cause
ok it was late and I wasn't thinking as clearly as I should have been, the quote above is what lead me to believe there may be a virus involved.
been there done that! and when i read what you read over and over ,i now see why you come to a virus conclusion ,you maybe right .
of late most bsod are device driver conflicts ,most brought on by windows updates making changes to files used by the device in ?.the list is many but a lot of times it graphic controller device
Yes that would be highly recommended but i think u may not have to go thru the whole reinstall. there must be something you could do to just change it to the legal key, m sure i read it somewhere. But still backing up the info is highly recommended.

Hello coolraj003, please check out form polices in the keep it clean section ,in regards to chat speak and shorthand ,thanks .

I have a Dell Dimension 9100 that wont boot. When I boot to the restore CD it goes along until it gets to the page where you could repair or reinstall windows. Up to that point the keyboard works. As soon as it gets to that page the keyboard stops working and the numlock light goes out. Of course Dell decided not to put anything as useful as a PS/2 port on this computer so I only have USB ports to deal with.
can you boot into the bios ,and check to make sure its set for legacy usb devices ,
ok you may have a virus or malware
if you have no other option you might need to reset the computer back to factory defaults.
restart the computer and press Ctrl and F11 at the same time when the computer starts to boot this should bring up the pc restore tool. follow the directions on the screen and it will reset your computer.
The poster is trying to do a recovery !!! and there keyboard will not work when needed !
Im self taught ,and been fixing computer for about 10 yrs now,and im learning everyday so ,please tell me how a virus or malware is going to stop the keyboard from working when windows isn't even running .and don't say boot sector virus .
hii im back.. with another problem.
i rebooted my comp and everything..
but idk how or what to do to install an audio driver?
pls help me =[
thx.
first let me say ,this not a chat room so please don't use shorthand like IDK, As i don't use chat speak, it took me a few to figure out what you were saying . pleas read the keep it clean section in forum polices ,thank you ,it really make reading a post hard for those of us who don't use chat speak.

To help,We need to know you model of computer or the motherboard make and model # to help with what driver you need for your sound .
hello ,most like cause is ==
you have on board video that has no ram of its own so the main ram is allocated to video ,in increments of 4-8-16-32-64meg and so ,you are using 64meg, 256-64=192 .the amount used can be change in the BIOS when you first boot the computer
Computers never stop annoying me, opened up the box and had a good fiddle, pushed and pulled and everything is now working! Just to gild the lily downloaded the latest drivers which incidentally made no discernible difference. So new motherboard is on hold.
Yea,OK.
My Quad knowledge is nil. but it use to be that if the bios update didn't fix an issue you were having you didn't do one ,so say any good motherboard maker.!after the update did you go into the bios on the first boot and chose to set default setting and save settings and then reboot ,
Also you could try a windows recovery repair ,and do a "chkdsk /r " to help with the bsod error ,
I also updated my BIOS which seemed to run successfully.
how long has it been since the bios update ,and why did yiou do a bios update ,what were you trying to fix with the update .
it could be heat ,get a can of compressed air and blow out the cooling ducts/fan/fins
may
good luck
