Uhh, I think it's ViewSonic, Intel, or Asus.. I don't know much about my dad's computer

ViewSonic, makes monitors , Intel, Intel, makes processors or Asus, Asus makes computers ,among other things same for all of them .
so it sounds like you Dad has a Asus Computer with Intel inside ,and a nice View sonic monitor .and a nice big Virus ,that a number of free antivirus program could have stopped ,if one had been installed ,time to take computer in for repair .

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

if you got that oem number from right clicking on mycomputer and going to properties ,you goofed ,that isn't the xp product key you need when installing winxp .
if you have a sticker on the computer tower with that number then something isn't right .or its older old xp. legit wiould look like this .
MVF4D-W774K-MC4VM-QY6XY-R38TB
any way i use this program to find winxp keys on a legit computer with a missing sticker . i have a win95 disk with a number with the oem in it .or old copy of microsoft works

try going into the bios and set the defaults settings ,f10 to save settings ,and reboot computer

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

not sure about where you live but if i had your problem i could just take the tower into local private owned computer shop and there would plug it into there monitor for me to see if it would work ,don't take it to big box store computer shop as they work on commission and will want to sell you a new computer .
also, i to think its your monitor

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

Yes/No: I just want to buy a computer off the shelf (probably XP) and run NT 4.0 OS on it.

this is the part that got me confused in the first post ,why buy a pc with xp on it just to take it off and install NT 4.0 ,just buy a barebones tower with no winxp os on it ,and save some money ,the local computer store sell them for about $350.00 cdn ,P4,3.0 ,1 gig ram ,80 gig hdd ,and dvd burners .
also great prices on e-bay for barebones towers .

when you hit f6 to load scsi device driver you will need these drivers on a floppy disk to pick the drive when asked at this point in the install ========

Windows Setup

Setup could not determine the type of one or more mass storage devices installed in your system, or you have chosen to manually specify an adapter. Currently, Setup will load support for the following mass storage devices(s):

<none>

* To specify additional SCSI adapters, CD-ROM drives, or special disk controllers for use with Windows, including those for which you have a device support disk from a mass storage device manufacturer, press S.

* If you do not have any device support disks from a mass storage device manufacturer, or do not want to specify additional mass storage devices for use with Windows, press ENTER.

Most PSUs these days adjust themselves, whether they're plugged into 240V or 110V. In the good ol' days the PSU had a switch on the back for 110 or 240.

I always wondered what would happen if I flicked that switch, but I never had the ballz to find out, lol.

SOLVED??

had customer towers over time that would not start ,and the reason was that the little red switch was on the 240v ,just changing back to 110v will make it boot and run ok!

I'm having this same problem...

The application was running fine before. Will installing the Windows 2000 service pack 4 help at all?

This is really frustrating, if anyone has a solution out there please post it.

Thank you

if you are running win2000 and don't have sp4 installed then you should install it ,not sure you will fix your problem but won't hurt the install for sure .
what appp are you trying to run when you get the error .post the exact error you get !

best solution is to gig here her own computer in her room ,but don't hook it to the internet .lol until here grades improve ,that'll drive her to study .

The problem is that after I use 'fast user switch' -> I see the login screen with all the 'normal' user accounts listed but if I would like to use 'Ctrl+Alt+Del' to login to other (unlisted) accounts like 'Administrator' it doesn't work -

ok,i just check this on mine ,it has 2 users and ctrl+alt+del ,doesn't work for me either but does if i log off the user I'm on and when it goes back to the 2 user screen login in, it will work for me .

yes we do use 110v in our homes and buildings because they are wired for 110v .but its just a manipulation of sorts i think to get something hooked up 240v like big machinery that is wired for 240v,at my place of employment[car parts plant ] there is both running throughout out the building,im sure that none of the computers are plugged into the 240v tho!LOL

Wattage is 250V

really, now thats a oxymoron .lol watts kill not volts

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

as for my power supply im sure its fine.. i hope

I statement that makes me think you are not really sure ,if its only a 250 watt ,it certainly not powerful enough ,as 250w were used in older, older really old p4s and Plll computer ,not the one you are using

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

any admin acct can move all over the computer in and out of each others file and folders unless special permissions are setup or the kids are on a limited account .I remove customers passwords all the time through the safe mode admin account ,that is not passworded because the average user doesn't even know that its there . so just simple removing of shortcuts doesn't stop the computer savvy kid! fro musing any program on the computer .

option i have suggested to a few people was a couple of removable harddrive trays and 2 hard drive one for the kids and one for you .

the whole idea here is about licensing.

agree ,but the assumption is !still that the poster is asking if they can downgrade a xp install to NT.
Not downgrade the license to NT.

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

1. Its impossible to downgrade XP to NT cause it has different hardward inside. So, means its not a straightforward thing. True or False?

there is no hardware within any software !! or am i missing something in you statement

2. Its possible to run 2 different Operating Systems on One PC. Using something called VM Wave? True or False?

better to use another partition on the drive or harddrive and a boot manager to dual boot .

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

Is your name Bill Gates? how do you know?

Windows XP professional can be downgraded to any other workstation type windows. I have had entire companies who were running illegal windows98, legalise their software by purchasing enough XPpro licenses.
of course don't take my word for it, call M$

an assumption was made by Bobbyraw, and the same as the one I made I think ,the poster meant downgraded after it was installed on the computer .Im also assuming you mean something different ,like a license downgrade .

I have an HP Compaq Desktop Computer and I'm not sure I hav a sound card installed. I have the same message as in every issue, and nothing works. Any suggestions?

Most likely missing sound controller drivers .
is there a black, orange and green set female of plugs close together on the back of you tower .place to plug speakers/headphones ,mic in! if yes then you have a sound device in the computer ,if the mini plugs are in the lower part of the tower near the bottom then you have a add in sound card ,if they are nearer the top of the tower ,by the monitor ,keyboard mouse connection then you have onboard sound device controller in the computer .HP computer it most likely has onboard sound device .give us the exact model of the HP and maybe i could direct you to the right drivers .
