Can anyone give me a hint as to what I should be looking for with the Memtest results. I would greatly appreciate it.

in memtest86 if the stick of ram is bad ,you will see red error messages for each bad address in ram that is bad ,it make take awhile for them to appear or it could be instant ,the whole lower half of the screen will go red with messages ,
just to add, a bad stick of ram could still boot a computer ,just not run it well.!!thats why memtest is better than just switching stick of ram out .

make sure to unplug power cord and hold power button in for about 20 seconds to discharge all power from board first ,

it is best to try and get an exact match to the one you all ready have .

yes you are right you did say that ,sorry ,its been my experience that if you re-install the motherboard driver it will get rid of the missing other device ,why it happened i have no answer

in the links you provide ,just to the right of the picture of the motherboard there is a related links box with a bunch of links in it about this board ,click on the one that says CPU support .if it says N/A in the right column,when you get there ,then it doesn't support that CPU .If it says f6/f7 then that indicates the bios version the board has to have to support the corresponding cpu . i check and in my opinion of the list neither one supports dual core cpu

There are two things in the sound controllers for creative. One is the game port the other is the WDM.

ok ,i have audigy card and have 9 things in sound devices ,so doest the sound on the computer WORK,
other devices and it says pci device= usually is a motherboard device driver missing ,did you by any chance have on board device like sound or video disabled in the bios ,and maybe you reset the bios to defaults for one reason or another when you made the move .

if you put the sound card into a different pci slot than it was in before the move you would get this ,but then again if you did do this your sound would not work .does you sound drive show in device manager ,if no then you need to reinstall the audigty drivers

When I strike the ctrl alt delete keys my task panel window won't fully open? I can only see the bottom portion where it says end task, switch to and new task ?

you are both right of course ,in my local area there are many call centers ,we use to have many industry here that employed many ,like commercial Fishing , coal mines ,steel mill,and they are all closed ,and the ones that didn't go west work in the call centers selling ,and teck support ,Government gave money incentives to the call centers to hire these people ,because all the industry i mentioned were Government run!! I did work at one doing software and palm tech support for Franklin Covey , I had 6 days training ,2 days on the phone when i decided it wasn't for me ,and yes we read off paper ,and used the Covey on line tech support for all the info we used ,customer could have just gone there and got the same info i used .
long and short of it .most are average joe's who may or may not even used a computer before,we use to have HP tech support over 1000 people employed ,but it mover to India i think

Once you open your cabinet,you need only a screw driver to take out your fan.Clean it if its dusty.And I dont think lubricating it will do any good.

maybe so ,but i don't need a screwdriver to take mine off ,intel p4 ,has just to clips i have to click up and 4 hooks to unhook,no screwdriver needed ,my point is different fans ,different method of removal .

OK , im going to direct you a program called hijackthis ,google for it ,and run a scan with log ,and post the log in our spyware,viruses and other nasties forum ,explain you problems ,and a hijackthis log reader will have a look at it .

my ,background intelligent service is set to manual ,i don't know if i changed it to that or if thats default for winxp home.
edit: just check the winxp pro tower i have connect to my main computer via a KVM switch ,using my router to connect to internet ,its background intelligent service is set to automatic .i have no problem connecting to internet and windows updates on either machine .

edit= also i do believe from what i read that this hyper memory is used on the cheaper video cards,that why they are cheaper [less expensive ram on the card ]., not the high end card

I would use hijackthis to close most of them ,read through the 04,s and check off the one yo uknow and know you don't need them starting up,any you are not sure of just search google for info on if it ok to not run at startup.
Excample =

in google search this= AnyDVD.exe ,as i know this program i think you will find something like ,not need to run at startup unless you are burning copywrite protected dvd all the time .so fix it and just start it when you burn a dvd.
you should know most of the ones listed and just common knowledge as to if "YOU" need it running all the time[not sure of one search Google ] or if you can go to Start ,allprogram and run it only when you need to use it .

Tried to do a restore but getting message System restore is not able to protect your computer. Please restart your computer, and then run system restore again. maybe because you are un safe mode ,or a virus/trojan could cause the restore to no work .

On my x600 hypermemory "256mb" (128 really) its minimum specs state it wont run unless you have 1gb system RAM.

after you download them and the ac 97 sound drivers from the other link ,install this one first .
"Intel Application Accelerator" ,then reboot computer when asked ,after reboot install the other files downloaded in any order .good luck

the board takes 8x avp. and if i were you i would add at least another 512 meg of ram to the system 1 gig if you can afford it
and i can't find it anywhere that video card that say they are 512 meg are really only 256meg ,but i did find this .looks to me like if the fame buffer uses all of the vram 256 or 512 ,then it will uses the system ram .

well where the speakers plug into inside the machine on that it says foxconn and yes there are yellow ?'s with !'s on them on the SM Bus controller, Video controller and also a ! on the game card i hope this is of any help

don't suppose you have the Driver cd disk that came with the motherboard .if not you got to fing the manufactor name of each of these items and get drivers from there web sites.
get this program called Everest run it and it will show you everything including the video,sound and chipset makers . Click link below for Everest ,run it and use the panel on the right for each item you need to find out ,like Multimedia for sound ,video ,motherboard for chipset .

yes a c to repair but the chkdsk did not work. It must have something to do with Roxio CD creator as it asked for me to put that CD back in my drive. Wonder why?

you have to leave the windows cd in to run chkdsk .what could it possibly have to do with a cd burning program!!

i use much caution ,but use all 3,air, soft bristle paint brush,and vacuum,note vacuum only for lower case and front cover and such

open computer case .lay it flat on its side ,turn it on, hover you head all around listing with you best ear into the open case ,and you should be able to pinpoint the whistle

if the motherboard just stopped working for no apparent reason like a power serge ,the ram should be fine .

you might want to use Everest ,it will tell you what network adapter it has ,when you run the program just go to networking on the right pain and it will tell you what network adapters name is ,post it here or search the net for drivers when you get the name .click link below to get free Everest.

So, to get to the point I was wondering if there is any way to keep this old PCI card like using a PCI caddy that then plugs into USB/Firewire (if such a God-sent device exists)? Or is there a way to have it running in a new system?

never heard of such a thing ,but im sure if there was it would still need the drivers for the card to function .if manufacture doesn't write drivers for Vista then i think you will be out of luck.why not just update computer but stay with winxp ,instead of going to Vista

i think its f1 for ibm ,start hitting it over and over as soon as you start the computer and don't stop until it goes to bios.

when i have problems with connecting as you do i run a repair tool correct invalid setting that another program may have set i use this safe program to restore the default settings .

go into the properties of the video card and check the refresh rate.as it may have changed ,not sure what the laptop should be, but i think its should be 75,hooking it to the projector may have changed it to 60 or so,i have seen blurry laptop screens when set to 60 mhz

if you get to the safe mode screen you can get to
the win2000 cd ,you need to ge into the bios and change the boot order to cd-rom first ,do this by hitting del or f1-f2 f10 -f11 ,depending what computer you have ,it usually says when computer starts to boot up what key to hit .

try booting to your win2ooo cd and do a repair ,when you get to the prompt ,type in CHKDSK /r
see if it helps fix the problem ,if not post back .
