it means that the sound drivers are not install or you install the wrong ones ,what is the name of the sound card ,is it a add in pci card or on-board sound device .what if any is the manufactures name ,model of the computer .in device manager is there any red or yellow !!! marks on the sound device

What exactly should I change the boot file info to? In the default operating system box...I got "XP Professional Setup" and I also have "XP Professional"...so I'm assuming that it should be changed to "XP Professional"...Thx for all the assistance thus far.

you edit out the one that doesn't boot to the desk top ,they should be worded different ,you will see this when you are sitting at the computer ,looks to me like you need to edit out the setup one .

it requires more knowledge that what you have or you would have figured it out by yourself by now .you could ruin you cpu or your motherboard if you do it wrong .that as help full as i can be ,sorry . but maybe someone else can help you ,give more info like what type of processor and motherboard is in the computer .is Intel or amd .what socket type is it ,there a so many different ones

not exact if norton is not involved ,giging that ,did you at least install a new hard drive and reload windows ,if so then you most likely have on board sound device and need to load drivers for it ,if you have you original motherboard disk they should be on it !!

not likely ,if it wants to continue with setup then he went as far as formating the drive, and there will be no windows installed to boot to anymore .

I (it also wouldn't allow me to safely remove the device because it kept saying it was in use even though everything had finished copying). .

when this happens i always go to start, and log off user and then log back in ,you will then be able to remove the usb device .

But I never see a grey (or any color) box ABOVE the task bar, when you don't highlight anything, besides Windows Messages and this is much smaller than a windows message box; there's no way to close it that I could see either. question ,the ram you are looking at is ddr2,does your motherboard take ddr2 ram or does it take ddr sdram

i read thin and all i can think is ,quick launch ,the fact it gray means nothing ,everything pops up of course it does ,icons for all the program he install and didn't uncheck when asked if he wanted to install a shortcut in start programs and quick launch

are you doing a fresh install of winxp or a upgrade from another windows version .
i would suggest a format of the hdd and try the install again .also check this .

now im confused ,but it look like according to the link that you can achieve dual Chanel with 3 chips ,i thought from what all i have been reading about dual channel lately that there had to be equal size chips in 2 matching channels ,but they show using 2 matching chips in the 2 matching channels and 1 unmatched size chip in a single channel by itself.any as you have no 2 chips that match in size they it looks like you are stuck using the single mode .

yeah ,like i said that ram should work ,get another 512 for 1 gb ,will make nice difference but you still have heating problem to work out ,before i would spend any money .

don't used computer with virus scan running in background,could be you and the virus scan tried aces same address in ram at the same time you were using it .

ok,update ,im finished installed the xp pro "devils own "with sp2 slipstreamed into it ,with and active winxp key already in it also ,no activation required ,that passed everything on winxp update site ,and install 44 updates ,including ie7 and then i went into wmp 10 and updated it to version 11 ,then back to windows update for 3 more wmp security updates ,so i guess its all possible with the right pirated winxp cd

gotta be more to it than that ,i don't use either web site you mention but can go to them and all images load fine for me .on my space i click on a video and it loads and so do a lot of other images all down the page as i scroll down ,no problems .i only have 1 gb ram .anyway i don't have an answer but i thing its some other software[don't know what software, firewall maybe ] causing you problems ,of improper configuration/option settings of the software you are using now ,im using firefox ,i have ie 6 install but never use it !!also im only using winxp

try going into safe mode to delete them ,to get there boot computer,then hitting the f8 key until you get the option to choose safe mode

my experience with laptops would say yes it would work ,and from you other post it looks like you have two slots to install ram and it will take 2 sticks so you could remove the ones you have and install 2, 1 gb sticks for a total of 2gb

i still don't like compaq. i prefer dell.

ok so u have to do an actual install to know if u have an OEM version.
I did try to genuine pack and rtan it got a code but when i enter it on the MS page it say software not genuine, thets when i had to change the key and re-activate then i was able to get genuine.

usually oem would be marked on the windows disk i do believe ,or if the case sticker is intact it would show there i do believe

When I got the pc the first thing I did was put the XP disc in and set up partitions and installed .
Then I used the Bios disc to set up hardware could this be the problem.

i assume you mean motherboard disk to setup hardware ,as i have never seen or heard of a bios disk ,just what does setup hardware mean, load drive and stuff maybe !???,

the 2 chips need to of equal size to work in dual mode ,and motherboard and cpu that supports it ,you definitely don't want to throw the 2100 into the mix, even in single channel mode.and the 2 512 and the 1 gig will not work together in ddr mode ,from what iv'e read on the site linked anyway more info here.

i have a emachines [gateway supported] model# mx4625. the os is windows xp. when i alt-control-delete; sometimes it shows my cpu as 100% and then rapidly jumps down to 0% and then goes up to like 2%.

doesn't mean its not getting hot just because its not overloaded ,can of compressed air ,blow out the fan /heatsinc from the outside best you can ,might help i have laptop here that gets so hot the video goes crazy,blaptop freezes but its neither the fan bot the cpu ,so there is other things that cause heat buildup also

getting back to pirated winxp,only having sp1 ,thats only if the person doesn't know how to slipstream sp2 into it .like i said before there is a copy of the original devils own with sp2[from the it profrosional link on micrsoft site ] slipstreamed into it with a key that passes a genuine and will do windows update ,either on automatic or direct from the windows update link in IE.

I guess it could work, having three or four monitors. But you would need some sort of software to send the right part of the desktop to the right monitor.
That i think would be your greatest challenge in setting it up.

you need software for 2 monitors ,i did this once and found a trial piece of software through a google search ,i would assume the he has software all ready as windows does nothing for dual monitors.
