like it said in previous post reboot into safe mode ,do this by hitting the f8 key many times when you start the computer .do a search for the file and open it and check and see if the pause line is there ,remember you could make it worse if you remove wrong lines.

stupidity,is a strong word for it ,more like they just don't know any better,gullible ,naive .I know Educators who use a computer like a 2 yr.old!!Actually worse than a 2 yr old .

if the laptop comes with a hidden partition you might have problem installing anything else but the restore cd.

i load regular winxp on older laptops all the time ,I remove the recovery partition.

What i guess im trying to ask is there a place that can guide me to a board where i can be able to pull the old memory from the board and be able to use it. Plus if i get a new board will it come with a guide to show me where everything hooks up at,plus what do i do about an O/S. Will i have to go out and buy XP pro or home when i get a new board? Sorry for the dumb questions but just wanting to know what im about to get myself into before i start..

cant answer your questions because i have no idea what motherboard or type of ram is in the one you have now.yes you will get a book with the motherboard if you buy it new.you may or may not have to buy new os,when you get new board load the winxp disk you have now and see if it will activate .

well it should pick up a wireless connection ,then you have to pick your conection and click on connect ,there should be a wirell icon by the clock for you to right click and choose connect

do you get an error message when you try to connect to the wireless router

i think that like winxp you can go to control panel and users and change the way you log on and off

If it still shows in the process of the task manger its still running on you computer !
I use hijackthis ,insted of msconfig to stop program i don't want running on startup ,all you have to to is check off to fix the 04 entry's in hijackthis .

when booting to winxp cd did you hit f6 to install sata drivers for the hdd,you may have to do this first ! you will find sata drivers on the motherboard cd.but will need a floppy drive and disk to copy them when hitting f6

If you have a product key that starts with FCKGW then you have a Devils own copy of xp,And it is not true that you can't get updates with un-orignal winxp,The winxp Devils own as it was called now has a key that will pass Microsoft's genuine test and update anyway you want to update it .its out there just google search for it ,and all you need to do is Slipstream in sp2 and the latest updates and your off !to Jail i guess if previous poster is correct!

I have this same exact issue...usually happens when I am playing a game or have been watching videos on You Tube for a while. The entire screen blacks but it stays on. You have to then hold down the power key until it turns off. Then, you have to hold it down to restart the laptop. When you restart asks if you want to restart windows normally or some other mode. Mine is a Toshiba A215-S4817.

Anyone figure this out? The laptop runs Vista.

No,we didn't figure it out yet,need more info,will ask you same question we asked previous poster ,did you hook it to a normal computer monitor and see if it does the same thing to that monitor!!????.

the a215 is a fairly new laptop ,so a new hdd drive will be cheaper than a new laptop.and if they made the recovery dvd's when you first got the laptop t you should not need a new os.if it is the HDD!!! also i don't think that those cables are for the hdd.you could take the drive out and using a usb device attach it to another computer and see if it works

AHCPI not ACPI ,
Acpi and raid have nothing to do with each other. not sure what better though.

Edit: i did some searching/reading and it looks like ahcpi is set in the bios if you want to install xp on a sata drive disabled if you are installing Vista ,more to it that that though you'll have to google it and read

you reall should start you own thread ,but yes you can do what you ask ,quit simply ,create a programs folder on second drive ,its path will be d:\programs ,so when you are installing most programs it will tell you where its going to install the program like C:\program files ,when it dose just type d:\programs ,instead of whats there .

Do you have full version of winxp ,if so ,put a new motherboard into you computer ,install the hdd ,and try to do a repair install of winxp.some will disagree with me but i do this a lot.with success.

also if it wireless on new laptops there is usually a button on the laptop that need to be turned on ,in the case of the new Toshiba laptop ,owned by a customers that i have here its located near the front of the case ,just on the underside of the laptop near the sound controls .I turned this on and was on line via my wireless router in a minute,some Acers are near the power button.what kind of laptop is yours.

a search of the file i find reference to MACintosh OS ,its possibly why you cant open it ,it may be a MAC file

recently i've downloaded a software named "MPlayer-dev-SVN-latest" frm a site......and i dont knw whether it was an approved site or not.....but when it completed downloading there was no option for RUN ....so it asked me for 2 options ...like using appropriate web service/select program frm a list. can anyone help me.... what kind of a format the software is asking for...???

no to pick on you but "a software "makes no sense to me ,what software were you looking for when you downloaded "MPlayer-dev-SVN-latest" the message you are getting is a familiar one ,it means you have no program on you computer associated to the file type you downloaded ,so not program defaulted to open the file type !.
was this is suppose to be a media file like a mp3 .,it could be virus so i would actually delete and go look again for the software you were looking for .

I have a question reguarding this vista feature,why not just increase the swap file size on you hard drive, instead of using a slower usb drive to add move memory.

Can't help myself,so you are familiar with AOL'S functions ,it only finds what on the net ,just like all other ISP,nothing more .Believe me you will become just a familiar with a new ISP,and you will speed up computer at the same time.

None of these are necessary in startup.except the AOL one because you have AOL ,but if you switch you get rid of those resource hogs,as for McAfee it may be good ,But for the average home user free AVG is just as good !and SpywareBlaster …

i try any thing ,i bulid computers from scratch or buy used with or with out OS.and resell them . I once had a dead IBM laptop ,no windows disk but winxp pro key sticker on the back ,i pulled the sticker off ,using a full version winxp pro disk loaded it onto a no name p4 2.0 gi and use the key from the laptop.it activated without the phone in ,now just how much change is too much,oh and the person who bought the computer is still using it !Did I say I try anything lol,Bill is not getting richer off me.

What XP needs is a control panel that would make it a no brainer
to shut down every process that isn't needed. As it stands, you
have to do a - lot - of digging to figure out what can be done.

a no brainier ,there is none with windows ,you should maybe switch to Linux ,because you hate windows so much.
the problem with the control panel you want is everyone uses/needs different services ,depending on what is installed on there computer . and Microsoft has no way of knowing this !!
There use to be a really good Guy with a web page to help us decide what we need and don't need in services ,Called Black Viper ,but he retired /quit doing it .just did a search and i think hes back.

its is oem key ,but its winxp home full verson disk i use to install instead of the computer makers recovery cd.

the last cpu i tested is still in my computer ,forgot to change it back and the owner has yet to bring his computer back to have it changed back.
i have put about 5 or more different cpu's in my computer and windows will boot.and i have left some of them in for a number of days ata time .

Weird ,really Weird

The new install on the primary will no longer boot. I either get a screen telling me that a file is missing or corrupt or it gets past the "scrolling bar" screen and just goes to a blank screen. Unhook the slave drive, and the master will boot normally again. Ideas?

I have had this happen to another's computer ,and if you are as lucky as i ,you will never get it to boot either .the drive is bad!!
If you think it isn't then install it as master again,boot to the winxp cd ,go to the recovery console and do a GHKDSK

usually need something like a guitar pick to insert into the small crack around the laptop ,to seperate the two parts of the case
