whoa whoa slow down. Can you explain kinda more detailed about your suggestion? And once again i think my monitor went down again, so i might need to use the 64 mb chips now?
And btw, can you give any tips on how to be more careful with Ram? I heard its sensitive which is why I killed it, i dont want to kill anymore.

you are suppose to carry it in a static free bag .anyway you may not have killed you ram ,i handle it all the time out side of a static bag ,i really think you need to take to a pro .i can explain it all ,but you don't seem to under stand me !!
you say you had hardware issues in you first post ,what hardware issue was it !.
do you have more than one hard drive in the computer or ,just 1 drive ,partitioned to multiple drives .

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

It all leads to the motheroard and ram, but how could ram have anything to do with hard drives, which leads to the motherboard totally!

you could try that ,but why not try taking one harddrive and putting it into the tower .taking the winxp cd and boot to it , and format hdd, and reload windows and all necessary drivers to run the computer .try a clean install of xp to see how it all works .
the CPU and Ram are the hart of a computer .take either away and computer is useless!

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

what web page does it change to .,most likely cause is spyware or trojan ,i suggest spybot search and destroy ,and avg antispyware ,both can be found at www.filehippo.com.in the antispyware section .

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

first thing i suggest is going to going to services and make sure that the service "wireless zero configuration " is set to automatic .find the services in the control panel and admin tools ,i think its the same in vista as winxp anyway .services.msc in start/run if you have the run command setup in start .

also you say you enter password ,then connect ,its my experience that you hit connect and then are asked for the security password to the wireless connection .how old is you netgear ,i have a older one once and it wasn't compatible to my compaq laptops wireless device .

check this out .

I've never seen an OS causing a heat problem before ,most likely hardware ,like bad cpu or motherboard

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

more info about the laptop and less about the tsunami might help us, did you plug it and and just leave it overnight to charge the battery fully ,first ! it maybe the motherboard ,it maybe the cpu ,it may be the harddrive, the video shipset ,the ram ,did you leave a cd disk in the cdrom drive ,sometimes this can cause problems with laptops

Hi,

So I decided to take the leap and build my first desktop. I thought I had experience by removing and installing various components from purchased computers but its never been quite like this.

My motherboard (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813188017&Tpk=EVGA%2b650i) , equipped with a Q6600, 2 sticks of OCZ ram and a cheapo 7200GT, starts up and turns off almost instantaneously when its in my case.

Doing bench testing, it starts up sometimes and stays on but usually starts up and turns off right away (like in the case). What should I do?

Hello,?"what should i do " take it to a pro !!

or make sure you have the cpu and heatsinc and thermal paste installed correctly and the front panel wires very important to have them installed correctly.

i read the reviews on the link you provided ,one said you may even get a refurbished board and both said to buy the next version up,not very good reviews and you think you bought a cheapo video card ,i think you bought a cheapo MB also ,no offense intended .
also suggention in one review was t odo this for help !!
Look on ECS's website for the board forums if you need help - most folks are usually willing to help.get help from people who use the same board .

foot note! i have been building and taking apart computers since 1999 ,haven't built a quad with pci-e yet and im …

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

what caused the hard drive problem anyway? I mean its kinda weird...and the no signal thing that i got again...i really dont want it to be that i killed my second ram chip but...

i have no idea as to why anything is happing to your computer ,because I'm not there to see inside the box ,see how its all hooked up,or how you are handling the delicate parts of the computer when removing and transporting them !sorry i have nothing else to offer you except you really need a pro to look at it now i think..

hey guys i have the drivers and have tried to install them but get the the error "windows vista cannot verify publisher of driver" would you like to continue, I click yes and have done this about 10 times but it never works. Have run them as admin tried everything.

One more thing: I typed in "chkdsk" and it said "The volume contains one or more unrecoverable problems".

btw...what does the /f stand for..?

the f stands for fix, when you did a chkdsk without the /f did you let it run threw the complete chkdsk ,could take an 1 hr or more

link to a manual ,checked it out a bit ,looks like it should auto pick the fact that it has a dual core ,but if you check way down in the manual you will see info on the bios ,and you can check in the bios to see that its recognizing the dual core .

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

so how do i set the bios thing up to recognize my new processor?

good question ,you need to check the manual for the motherboard ,you should have gotten one with the computer when you bought it ,but if you didn't buy it new ,then you will need to look for it on the board maker web site, i will see if i can find it for you .

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

Thanks for the advice. So its not a hardware failure and my drives are ok right? Thats great.
Also will I use any data? I think i did that once but it was long ago and i really dont remember what happened. See, I dont feel like loosing any data atm. =) I wont do anything before you answer... Yeah. As far as I remember all that happens is that you have to wait for it to finish repairing...Whatever it is i want to make sure I wont loose any data. oh and I promise ill never use the back button anymore :P

there will be no data loss ,it will repair the data structure of the hard drive ,this may or may not fix your problem ,but will not hurt to run it ,you have to do it as a process of delimitation ,to fixing you problems.

DUDE quit with the freaking flaming. We're just asking for help, and if you're not providing any then DON'T REPLY! And I'm ok with him hijacking my thread. Its more comfortable for others just to answer to us both than running around form thread to thread.

Im trying to help them in there own post so no sense confusing thinks by posting here .
and you both have different problems ,similar but different .
any way , re-read and i think this was the cause of you problem ,when you did this!!!

Before that happened I was playing a game when I came home to take out the Ram. My leg was hurting so I decided to play a game for fun for 10-15 mins and then go back to him. When I had to go i didnt exit the game or anything, just turned the comp off through the button ON THE BACK because I was in a hurry. I just took them Ram out and went back to the store.

windows needs to write info the registry when you shut down computer ,that is why it pauses ,and says windows is saving your settings, when its shutting down! your abrupt shutdown didn't allow this to happen properly .you may need to use the winxp cd to boot to and do a repair .
and do a chkdsk /r.

Someone said that I have to reformat my computer to 64x is that right? And is there another way besides reformatting? because i finally just got everything installed and downloaded and I dont want to go through installing and downloading everything i had again.

i don't think the person is correct ,and if they are its not formated to 64x,you would have to buy the 64x version of windows, and format and reload winxp 64 .dual core cpus' will use 32 bit winxp,so thats not you problem ,might be something in the bios to do with detecting you new cpu though .

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

I did A. I had to take it apart because i had to take my motherboard all out because, my old cpufan/heatsink was screwed in,

really ,i 've never seen one like that before .seen them screwed in ,with plastic screws but they were only locking screws.
any way did you install a new fan and HS,also did you apply any thermal paste to the new cpu .

was you old cpu a dual core or just regular p4,may be a setting in the bios that need changing to the dual core .did you try resetting bios to the default settings ,
maybe not releated but you might see some info to help with the transfer to the new cpu,

I believe i have been through every possible trick that 20 years of working with P.C.'s has taught me.

i have only been playing around with computers for 10 yrs ,but i have done justabout everything to stop the install of windows ,like plugging the plug, holding in the power button ,hitting reset button ,using power switch on back of PSU ,and have never corrupted a bios chip.
To me it sounds like a motherboard/cpu problem ,maybe even PSU.

So how do you recover from the Bad PBR error. How do you get the system to recognize the maseter boot record?

Regards,
dougl_nj99

so i really not sure if this is you problem as i did not read all the old post above, but if the drive won't boot because of bad master boot record ,you boot to the winxp cd and go to R for repair ,at the prompt ,type fixmbr, or even type help, first to get list of commands you can use to repair a hdd.

I have a Dell Dimension 4550 which originally gave an error message at start up that said it could not find the hard drive. I opened up the machine and checked te connections, I see that there is power to the mother board, yet the power button is now inactive. Depressing the button results in no activity. Any suggestions.

Thanks.

could be a bad power supply ,no putting out enough power anymore ,and when this happens it could also destroy you motherboard ,and so on and so on !!!!

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

a computer will still boot with a dead bios battery ,it will just revert to the default bios settings each time you reboot comp!
most likely cause of your problem is a small ribbon or some other wire not hooked back up or broken off even .

go to asus web site and get an update for the mother board sound drivers

i think from his first post he did that all ready!

i say go out and buy a pci sound card ,better than on board and should solve the problem !

also recently i reloaded Compaq ,Winxp with HD ac97 on board audio and had problems with it because it was high def! did some searching on google and found something about a missing windows hd file ,can't really remember ,i saved the drivers but not the website!something along these lines.

Okay, I just got my e4500 intel core 2 duo in my mail today. I put it in and everything, reassemble everything, graphics card, ram, yada yada. When i plug it in, and when i turn it on, it gives me a "No Signal" and goes blank, anyone know what went wrong? I hope its not my recently bought 8800GT >_< I tried my old 7600 too, but it still gave no signal, i hope its not my graphics card's problem. Is it my motherboard's problem? I have a ASUS P5NSLI. And if it IS my motherboard, what other motherboard can work with a 750 socket and a 6400 ddr2 ram? that is pci-e too?

Building a computer requires a lot of computer knowledge ,especially the newer dual core and pci-e computers ,sometime when investing all that money some things are left to the pro's.

So lets get this strait ,you had a Asus board working in the tower before you bought the new dual core cpu,you took the ram and everything out ,install the new cpu ,the video card and reinstall the ram and everything else.Right .

Or ,did you buy a new motherboard and CPU,and video card ,and rebuild computer,re-adding the ram and hdd and stuff .if yes to this ,you will need to reload windows to get it to work right .

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

My computer monitor stays in sleep mode after installing video card

I have never seen a monitor with sleep mode feature ,sleep mode is a feature of Windows,so your computer is not booting into Windows for some reason is most likely whats happing ,could be that the video card is not compatible or is not working .

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

Ok, wow, I think i have sort of the same problem. so my computer decided that for some reason the explorer.exe file was a virus and decided to delete it. Now i have no desktop, no taskbar, no icons NO WINDOWS EXPLORER!! I don't want to reboot my computer because I don't have a backup of all the info on my comp! no to preach ,but you were /are suppose to burn copies of the recovery cd's yourself when you first use it. .if had you could use it to do a , sfc /scannow , from run. to replace missing and corrupt file ,you still can if you could borrow a windows disk ,the same version as you own!

Thank you for ur reply but I wanted to know the definition of a low profile, not a picture, and wanted to know whether a bracket was needed. I dont think u answered any of my questions but i posted this same thread on another forum site incase. thanks for the feedback tho :)

Hello ,yes you will need the bracket,it holds the video card in place ,it wold work but you would have to be really careful nevet to move the monitor cable ,because it might un-seat the video card ,low profile video cards are used in desktop ,flat style computer boxes.like a compaq sff[small form factor ]like this .

try any other usb device you may have ,also go to the device manager make sure the usb controller is installed ,it will be the last one in the list .if its there but with yellow or red !, then it will need to be installed, the drivers for it will come from a motherboard disk or web site with your motherboard chipset drivers
