i don't know a lot about raid ,but,i think you will be able to keep it raid, but not the raid you have now as all will be lost with the install of the new win7 install

hello, time to use a linux live cd to check the boot up issue,using live linux with ruel out heat issue/hardware issue/windows os issue .

yes ,but still not accessible ,unless you replace the board,with the exact same one ,most people don't have the means to do so,so the hdd still needs to be replaced

if the problem with the drive is a bad circuit board it will not make clucking noise

if you created custom icons you can use them ,just right click on the desktop /properties/desktop/customize desktop/click on the mycomputer icon,network icon , ect ect /choose change icon, and browse to the custom icon you created or downloaded .

just reread and realize you are also looking to change icons like the mycomputer icon and that a bit more in depth than any info i just posted .i checked my winxp mode and the registry doesn't show the "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version\explorer\Shell Icons either.

also if you are looking to change the look of an icon ,say on the desktop ,right click on the icon go properties /change icon /then browse /and navigate to c:\windows\system32\shell32.exe, you will be presented with a list of different icons,also just found this one ,pifmgr.dll

Also I don't feel like extracting and compiling a DLL to get my icons to work for the system icons (My Computer, Network Locations, Start Menu, and so on).

here what i think ,right click on the start button /go properties / change to classic view , then customize, then add ,then navigate to the program you want to add ,and click on its .exe file to add the icon to the start menu ,then you can change it back to start menu from classic view ,i could only find a way to add them in classic mode

or even a gigabyte board like the one you are using now ,i always liked the gigabyte boards of yrs gone bye ,assume there still as good

The CPU is new. I guess part of my question would be, is there another BIOS I can try out that is not suggested by HP? Perhaps something "open source." I am pretty ignorant on the BIOS other than to know it gets you to the boot menu.

i know of none ,not sure where you would actually start looking for one ,and if you did use one and it was bad your board would/could be renders useless ,as the bios is the most important part of the motherboard

check this site for mmdriver driver file if you are using winxp,just download it a unzip the file and copy and paste to the c:/windows/system32 folder .i downloaded it and checked it for viruses and it is a ok file ,now im not sure it will fix you problem but the comments on the site say it will ,one poster said the when they installed Skype it deleted the mmdriver file on them

ok check device manager and mouse and other pointing devices ,if its not in there then you need to reinstall its drivers . .i checked Fujitsu site and don't list driver for it .if it happens to be in the device manager with a red x or yellow !,then double click on it and choose update driver ,and let it search for driver

it is my opinion that the bios update will not fix this problem because you use to get the 10% message before ,you could try setting the bios to defaults to see if it changes the power options setting back to normal
sorry i do not know why it doesn't warn you at 10% anymore ,but neither did dell tech support ,so i don't feel bad about not knowing .

its been my experience that only incompatible ram will stop a computer from booting,when there is good ram in the computer ,not bad ram

im surprised win7 64 bit installed on a computer with only 2gig of ram ,i suggest at least 3gig and even better 4gig ,

you have a 1tb harddrive ,how do you have it partitioned ,how many ,how big is each partition ,maybe you could shrink one partition and then expand the one running windows

did you try cleaning the contacts,[and also blow out the ram slot with compressed air]i use a lead pencil eraser,i have a white eraser just for this in my tool box,

and the monitors max is 1920x1080 and you video adapters is the 1000x900,so upgrading the video is and option maybe ,but not knowing what motherboard you have its hard to say fur sure .

what browser are you using to view the online videos,if its IE ,give firefox or google chrome a try

It usually means you're stuck in a network boot loader.

You can disable it in BIOS or it might have it's own BIOS, accessed via ctrl-s (sometimes) and setting "local boot" to "enable.
