oh ok nvm I found out how to edit my system's boot.ini file. I found a legit copy of bootcfg.exe (my pc didnt have it), but it was in spanish.. ;) anyways this is the contents of my boot.ini file:

yes just remove that line = C:\wubildr.mbr = "Ubuntu"
or just to be safe make window xp the first to boot to and change the time out to about 3 seconds

does the drive recognize other disk you put into it

hi, you need to edit the boot.ini file to remove the reference to ubuntu ,this one in the example has winxp and win 2000 ,make sure to follow it to the letter ,and ask questions before you edit it if you are not sure ,maybe post a screen shot of your ini file when you open it .

also you use the word reboot ,it can have double meaning .do you mean you shut it down and not it will not boot back up ,or do you mean it boots ,but if you try to use the restart /reboot option in start ,it will not reboot

Hi, for windows explorer , click on organize ,go to layout and click on menu bar,thats the best you will get compared to when you use customize in winxp

if it Internet explorer , right click on a empty spot in the top tool bar ,and unlock tool bar ,then right click again and chose customize ,then click add and remove components ,add the ones you want and close it , they will appear next to the home icon and stuff on the right side of browser ,if you can see them drag the toolbar to the left . then lock toolbar again

Holy crap!! No wonder it takes so long to start and I totally agree that these should be stopped.
The only programs you need to start when Windows starts are security programs, ie; anti-virus, firewall, spyware.

resetting bios to defaults [in the bios ]should have put it back in the boot list ,same effect as shorting battery

ok i was trying to watch videos on youtube but it is jerky and slow I just thought if i replaced the cpu that would fix that problem but now I see it wont and by the way i do have a faster computer i have nine computers, i buy them fix them up and sale them. i have already replaced the ram and hard drive so I will just get a new motherboard then it will be fully upgraded this is just my hobbie so the time and money dont matter.

I had a virus in my laptop. Had the drive wiped and tried to use the boot disk to restart the HP laptop. Gave it to a computer guy and he loaded a basic MS XP Media Center Service Pack 3. AMD Turion 64 Mobile. This is fine but when I bought I had media center and a bunch of other stuff. Now everything is gone. Does anyone know how to get the programs that were loaded when I purchased? I have the registration number for Windows but thats all.

you would have to use the orignal recovery disks for the laptop to get back the HP programs loaded on when laptop WAS NEW

you micht try ATF Cleaner to remove un-necessary files from computer .

check to make sure laptop has latest video drivers ,could be you laptop dosn't have good enough graphic device for playing games ,make and full model# of your laptop migh help ,also check the resolution seetings on the laptop, set to low berhaps

hi, did you add a new battery ,some people change them but use a battery from another computer ,some jsut making sure that you used a brand new battery .
so try this ,on boot up enter the bios and set to defaults ,save changes and exit ,reboot computer

and explain where outside you want this memory.

you bought a laptop with windows installed ,then you we and bought another copy of window and install it ,not using the orignal windows ,so the recovery cd you would make are of no use to you as you are not using that version any more ,so no you don't need to make the recovery disk ,unless you think you want to some day go back to the windows that was on the laptop when you bought it .
Edit : actually i don't think you would even be able to make the recovery's any more now that you installed a different Vista

I just put together my first custom built PC. I ordered all the parts from newegg, just for reference. Everything was going fine, put it together with little to no problems. Turned it on,it posted, and I started to install windows 7 on it. About a quarter of the way into the setup (it had just started installing the OS files and such) there was a sharp high pitched humm from inside the case and I BSOD'd and it shut itself down. It now wont do anything. Every once in a while if I try turning it on the case lights and fans and all start for just a split second before shutting down.This seems to only happen when i unplug it and plug it back in.

Can anyone hopefully offer and insight to what might of happened, or to what possibly died?

the contents of the bsod message might help, if you have a video card installed , and also have onboard video device ,remove card and try it using the onboard connection

irst thing i would try is removing the ram ,and then put it back in to make sure its getting a good connection ,if one than 1 ram chip ,remove one and try it ,same results ,remove and try the other one

explorer.exe is not internet explore it windows,its your desktop ,so type it into run ,,just type "explorer.exe"

ok,Compaqs' can be very fussy as to ram type being correct ! did you remove the original ram and but it back in to make sure its making a good connection .never know when inside we can bump things loosen them so if it has other add in card like modem or video make sure they are all well connected to the board

did you make sure the memory was compatible with his computer ,did you make sure you we grounded ,computer unplugged before you install the ram ,and like asked above did you remove it and try again with out new ram ,oh and was it NEW ram
