CaperJack thanks for sharing this

this user was able to ping the anti-virus
websites inspite of not being connected to
internet?

hi,you need to re-read there first post ! they could get on the net ,just not popular antivirus sites .
also i don't see where they say anything about pinging web sites

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

Jack,

It worked. It got installed, updated and found a dozen errors. After removing them and on restarting them, I could actually connect to other antivirus websites and got NAV 2008 reactivated.

Thanks friend.

Kedar.

when winxp is installed it install an administrator account and a user account ,you can get to the admin account by going to safe mode,[hold down f8 key on boot up],go to admin account and control panel/users and create a new user[you ]

or when you turn on the computer if it goes to your user name to click on before it loads the desktop ,don't click on it ,hit the ,ctrl+alt+del keys 3 times ,you should be prompted to type in a user name ,type in administrator ,hit enter !as long as you never put a password on the admin acct it should go to the admin acct!

Yey. Sorry for the long wait. Got a graphics card at last! After installing it, what should I do next?

Thank you so much! :D

first make sure you have drivers for the new card to install after windows picks up new hardware ,then turn on the computer see what happens !

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

so many possibility's, bad Power supply,motherboard/cpu ,ram. hard drive .
first thing is to remove all pci addin cards, except video card if you have one and not onboard video , Ram and ,unplug hddrive ,cdroms ect ect , try a boot.
also when in the case make sure all fans are clear of dust buildup ,it will cause overheating

If I want 5 different browsers that should be of no consequence to anyone but me. As for it causing problems; It never has caused ANY problems in the past...NEVER!!!

The question is HOW CAN I FIX THE PROBLEM.

other poster was just making a suggestion ,no need to bite the hand that feeds you ,I also would say no need to have all those browsers ,you are only looking for problems ,like the ones that come with updated of said browsers ,
anyway ,here is a tool to help you at least try a fix . winsockfix .

I am having a great deal of difficulty locating a game or application like that though since most games that would need that also need a lot of other things that this integrated video chipset just don't do.
Thanks again!

yeah, a correct statement for sure ,and you most likely will not find such a beast !

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

I no expert about this for sure ,but just reading the first link and the last ? states=
The sum total cannot exceed 96MB.
and this =
Pre-allocated memory is invisible to the operating system.
The additional memory requested by the application is relinquished back to the operating system upon exit by the Intel Extreme Graphics Driver.

also ,my opinion is that onboard graphics are only good for basic games and any really good new games need a good AGP or PCI-E video card

My grandaughter has an Advent 3105 desktop. It was never any trouble until one day it just wouldn't start-no lights,no anything.I thought it might be the psu, after first checking the cable. When switched on the fan doesn't work, but the smaller case fan beside it comes on for a few seconds and a green light on the motherboard comes on and stays on untill switched off, when it goes out gradually.I assume this is some sort of residual current held somewhere else.I have looked into getting a replacement psu but on the cabling is a 6 pin
aux connector on the motherboard which none of the others appear to have. The cabling for it is 3 black,2 orange,1 red. I know i is not a PCI Express as that is 3x2,this is 6 in line.
Can anyone point me in the right direction, assuming it is this which is at fault.
Regards Rogerok

is this an older P4 computer if so it could be a plug for the P4 ,earlier ones had them i think ,before the switch to the square 4 pin one ,the problem sounds like the psu,its putting out a little power when turned on ,but not enough to boot the system, the residual power is held briefly in the power supply ,what make is the motherboard in the unit

Hello, I am new to this site and need help please. I recently tidied up my desktop by removing certain programe files - those that said had not been used for some time ( bad idea ). This seems to have resulted in a loss of sound on my Acer Aspire T135. In Device Manager, the ac97 c-media audio device icon is present but has a yellow exclamation mark. In Properties, it says " This device cannot start ( code 10 ). I have tried uninstalling it, but when I try to re-install it, " new hardware found " comes up, but the icon still has the yellow exclamation on it. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Bob

when you try to reinstall .did you download drivers for it ,or are you just letting it search the computer for drivers .you will need to go to www.Acer.com and get drivers for your laptop model, look in support and download

So would the cheapest option to add the other computer to my home network?

I guess so,not sure what you mean .i use a kvm switch ,i have a router ,i plug 2 cat5 cables from router ,one to each of the towers , i don't network them because the other tower belongs to customers of mine therefor i don't need to actually network them .

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

like this one is all you need for 2 computers .,i have one and have been using it for 2 yrs or more now .actually mine is from before they had sound plug
http://www.iogear.com/product/GCS632U/

also if you plan to use software you have in your first post the 2 towers will have to be networked together also ..I like that the software allow for clipboard sharing between the 2 towers ,with just the kvm and without networking this isn't possible

by the way, what should I copy here after the ram test?
!

you will need to run the test for at least 2hrs ,it will show RED if there is any errors in the ram .just post back to tell us if it shows the ram as being bad.

screen shot of memtest ,if the lower blue parts goes red and shows errors you have bad ram that will need to be replaced .

...so ill suggest you get a 'cheapie' of a graphics card install it and see how it behaves
dont buy one just find one for troubleshooting

good suggestion I also suggest a ram test program ,download iso and using a iso burning program burn iso to disk and boot computer to this program memtest 86.of course you will need to do this on andother computer because of your problems.
