Would there be any problem in me trying to use system recovery disks from my own computer, a different make and with XP Home on. Could that work on a different make of computer? I would be quite happy to have XP Home installed on my wife's computer instead of 2000 professional.

nope ,not a chance ,you need to go buy xp home for it

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

what it boils do to is ,the recovery should not be asking you to delete non -dos partitons ,unless some made changes to the partitions since the last time iwin2000 was installed .like deleting the partition that most recoveries use to perform a recovery

Well will the equivalent of th Winxp cd be the system recovery disk, because I have a Toshiba laptop with WinVista.

sorry forgot i was in vista forum ,not sure if the recovery disk will do you could try it i guess .
I don't really thing it will fix you missing dll's anyway

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

go to run in start! and type in sfc /scannow. to fix and replace missing windows files ,you will need the winxp cd in the drive to replace files , if any are missing

Quick-Study commented: I have learned, thank you +1
caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

stupidly went messing about with system32

glad you said it first !
so i guess you didn't smartly rename the original to shell32.dll.old ,so you could just rename it back , in case something like this happened ,
my suggestion to you would be to run a repair install with your winxp cd ,and if you don't have a winxp cd ,then i cant offer any more solution's !.

I agree with #2 here. Try that first. Then check the web to see if there is a new BIOS update for you. Then proceed to step 1 IMO.

computer boots 1 of10 tries ,what possibly could a bios flash do for it ,

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

yeah ,sp3 did cause some errors with flash ,but i search google to no avail ,sorry .

start with the flash player uninstall program here ,use it,if you haven't all ready, then install latest flash player ,

according to this sites info you board only supports up to 333 ram , 333 translates to pc2700,so the pc3200 will only run at pc2700's speed , what does bios screen show if you install one of the 1 gig sticks

http://www.intel.com/support/motherboards/desktop/d845gvsr/sb/cs-008824.htm

also try this program to check ram ,it will show the ram in each slot and what speed it reads at .

Another option is using data recovery style programs if you don't want to physically remove the drives. I use Selkie Rescue (http://selkierescue.com) personally. It doesn't matter if windows is working or not and will connect through a network or cross-over cable.

good idea im sure ,but there was no mention of looking to recover data ,just swapping drives .

also just like to say it might work as i suggested but if you bsod is caused by bad ram there would be no point in changing drives

Hi,

kwtbaim.exe -

this exe belongs to Kiwee toolbar, most likely fix will be an uninstall ,reinstall ,or just leave it off the computer as its not a necessary program

Thanks for the reply! Ihave tried one other regular AGP card which gave me a beep code and prevented my PC from booting. I took it back out and the PC booted back up just fine. It could have been a driver problem, though. I haven't tried anything else. I have found and ordered a couple of cards to fit the pro slot, one 64mb and one 128mb. As soon as they arrive I will try them. If they work out OK I will just use them for now, but I do appreciate you taking the time to reply.

your welcome .i think you have to be careful with the different voltage of newer faster cards , and x2,x4,x8 agp cards, some 8x cards aren't backward compatible ,been my experience anyway .

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

and have run CCleaner, although only for Internet explorer. should i run CCleaner for 'system' as well or ?
.

why just internet explorer ,i actually didn't watch the link i posted for the how to use ccleaner ,guess i should have .i been using it to clean computers for a long time now i just use it as its installed i don't make any changes .i run the cleaner and the registry ,run and fix error in the registry 2 to 3 times till it shows no more errors .

also on the screen for the system utility there is a check box lower left corner to check off when it reboots so it doesn't show each reboot

is it something like this :

( 0xFF1511F2,0x00000002,0x00000000,0x804d9f68)

from that code, is there any clue what hardware that cause the problem?
Thanks.

Regards,

that is a start for some who know more about it than i ,but when you get the blue screen it says on the screen memory dump created ,and it saves it the harddrive and that is what you need to save to have all then info ,but they have to be deciphered by a debug program or something like that .way to technical for me .
http://msdl.microsoft.com/download/symbols/

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

I don't read em but the memory dump file contains the info that will show what hardware is causing it .

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

I think if it were malware /trojan ,just creating a new account wouldn't fix the setting on the other acct,But i have no suggestion as how to fix it .except not making the new accT an administrato,r and just leave it ,don't use it !

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

Hi,

That one is just same like formating right? if I am formating the laptop, its mean that my broken window is replaced by new one. but in fact, It still cause same problem

no ,chkdsk /p/f is only a fix .not a format .if you formatted and re-loded winxp and you still have problem then its not likely software, but likely hardware problem

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

welcome to Daniweb ,first thing i would try is to repair windows ,do this by booting the computer to the winxp cd ,and hit "R" for repair type in 1 when asked then at the prompt type in this note there is a space between the K and /,CHKDSK /p/f
when check disk finishes remove the winxp cd and type in exit ,to restart computer

hello ,not sure of the actually numbers lost ,but when you format any hardrive it changes the gigs size and its always less.
i have a 160gig ,2 partitions ,but they only total 149 gig so i lost 11 gig after the format .just the way it go .
