Re: The problem is that it isn't necessarily dependant upon how popular a forum is, but rather based upon how active your members are. If your topic is of a nature where most members are very active and constantly engaging in thought-provoking discussion and conversations, then that is different from a …
Next week is the last week of the school semester. During winter break, I plan to devote time to the blog and code snippets areas of DaniWeb. I would like to start a feature-list now, so that when it comes time to go to work, I already have an idea …

Re: The first step to figuring out how to write the program is figuring out how to write the algorithm. How would you solve this problem with pencil and paper? Where would you start? What steps would you take?
Re: Sorry Sani ... there is a sitewide rude that no affiliate or referral links are permitted anywhere on DaniWeb.
Re: Just to add, RPMs aside, SATA does not go through the standard IDE bus that IDE/Parallel ATA drives do. I'm not sure how big of an impact that makes on performance.
Re: I use XCode and I really enjoy it. I mostly program in C++ and I have no problems switching back and forth between Microsoft Visual Studio .NET in Windows and XCode on the mac - even when working with the same cpp files.
Re: The G5 tower is actually taller and wider than most PC cases. I had a problem in trying to buy a desk for the mac - I had to bring the dimensions of it with me as I shopped because I wanted the tower to fit under the desk. I'm …
Re: I'm a bit confused as to what you're asking. The word "Search" is a direct link to the search.php page. I used CSS to make it not really look like a link, but it's just a standard hyperlink. The search field is in a simple form which calls the search.php …
Re: 1. What I do is create lots of ad groups which each target a specific area of the forums. I have an ad group for each individual forum. Then, for each ad group, I create about 3 highly targeted ads which incorporate keywords into them. i.e. an ad group to …
Re: Gosh, I'm really sorry, I don't have any ideas on this one. As far as I know, no windows password = no windows unless you completely reformat from scratch. There might be a way though, see if anyone else has suggestions before you take that drastic step. Perhaps she mistyped …
Re: DaniWeb offers blogging in which our members are allowed to create their own tech-related blogs. If you create a blog entry with links to your Mark Ashworth page, then that is two pages of backlinks - your main blog page, as well as the blog detail page for the particular …
Re: Oh, cool specs, floris! Your computer has its very own domain :)
This is probably a dumb question:o but how does one do load balancing among multiple database servers? How are the servers constantly kept in sync? With the data that must constantly be exchanged to keep them in sync, is it even worth having load balancing? It seems to me that …
I stumbled upon this program called SphereXP which is basically a 3D desktop replacement for Windows XP. http://www.hamar.sk/sphere/ If you take a look at the screenshots they look pretty awesome => http://www.hamar.sk/sphere/sphereshots.htm Now I was just wondering if anyone has had any experience with this program? When the windows are …

What are some good ways to get members to be more active? I know that contests can be good incentives. Any other ideas?

Re: You get that error message if you have a non-bootable floopy in the floopy drive. Not quite sure when else you get it though. But check your floppy drive ;) or any other external drive (zip, floppy, etc.) that your PC may be trying to boot off of.
Re: dncloud, we do not support the direct answering of homework questions on these forums without you putting in some effort yourself. So let's break the problem down. - Prompt user to enter string one - Get string one from keyboard - Prompt user to enter string two - Get string …
Re: First of all, I deleted your thread from the Design Layout forum. Second of all, I'm a bit hazy on what you're asking. The best way to layout your site is to design the entire thing in a program such as Adobe Photoshop. Then, slice up the image, and output …
Have we all just gotten to a point where we are abandoning the idea of google PR? Isn't that what google wants of us? They knew they were in hot water when they went public and the foundation of their company - PR - was owned by Standford U. and …

Re: What software are you using? I'm pretty sure this can be done in Adobe Photoshop.
Re: The only effect to having hyphens is it separates out keywords in your domain name. For example, the URL www.computerforum.com means absolutely nothing to Google. It's just a long string of characters, since there is no recognizable word "computerforum" However, the URL www.computer-forum.com will boost your ranking for the keyword …

Re: I think that vBulletin can be successful with up to a few hundred different forums. It definitely was not built for thousands of forums - but with some fine tuning and some powerful servers on your hands, it is doable. I would check out the Premade Scripts forum to ask …
Please help me. I'm completely stumped. As of yesterday, AdWords just completely stopped working for me. Ads just completely stopped showing up. It is as if my campaign is paused, but it isn't. The campaign shows up as active. I have a pretty large budget. The ads are set to …
Re: First thing is your demo gives a 404 error. I don't think it would be too hard to write a dynamic PHP script that grabs all your forums and forum descriptions and creates that page dynamically, though. As for vB's built in archive, I think the only thing bad about …
Re: It basically depends on the type of audience. If it is a techie audience, such as here at DaniWeb, members like to see different types of articles and tutorials - especially linked right off the homepage. The more content, in the fewest number of clicks, the better. It may be …

Re: I use AdWords and I'm very happy with it, but I'm in the market for some other forms of advertising other than Google or Overture PPC. Any suggestions?
Re: PR, or Google Pagerank, is a very rough estimation of how important google feels a webpage is. Note I said web page and not web site. In other words, each page of a site has its own PR. Generally the higher the PR of a page, the more google will …

Re: Was it always like this or did it just start? To be perfectly honest, I would never have upgraded Windows XP from Windows 98 - the upgrade could cause many conflicts down the road. What should have been done was to back-up your important files, and then to use the …
Re: And what do you know ... just yesterday I found the time to run Windows Update for the first time in like 3 months ;)

Re: A well-known program to do simulations is Arena. We used it in my Computational Modeling computer science course. Not sure what you mean about a simulation program that lets you use arrays and queues in c++. |
