Probably the cheapest and easiest way to improve performance is by adding memory. But if this is an old machine, the hard disk drive could be the bottleneck. So, if you are at the limits of your hard drive and you don't have enough memory, the system will bog down. …

This may or not be the problem but it's worth looking. Go to Start then Run, type Regedit and OK Go down the hierarchy HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/Control/Lsa entry restrictanonymous should have value 0 (zero) - if it has value 1 (one) that's probably your issue. caveat...you will open that workstation's permissions by …

Hi Pastor, First, you need to come up with some information, such as how many computers are deployed already, how they are connected, how you are planning to have the visitors connect...i.e., wireless? If you're going to administer this network, you need some training...I'd say that if you've set up …

First, have you tried to do a software update lately...this error is associated with a failed SP2 update to Windows XP.

have you tried another monitor? Does the computer actually work? This could also be a case of dirt and dust...make sure everything is blown out, even the memory card connectors, etc...this happens to me infrequently and I forget about it...but it just fixed one of mine so I remind you.

Here's something to try on the machine putting out the error. Regedit HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/Control/Lsa There's an entry here named restrictanonymous - each time I've had a problem with an XP machine losing connection with the network, I've found this key set as value 1. It should be set at 0 (zero). …

please be more specific. For example, you can definitely install a printer driver and then hook up the printer and load it, or a video driver and then connect a monitor. What kind of interface do you mean?

I'll reverse the question / if you wrote a nifty piece of software and spent a lot of time and effort on it, would you appreciate someone stealing it. How about your car? Having been in this business for many years, I´m constantly amazed at how many people don´t have …

It's probably that loading up the phone is the culprit. You should push F10 and try to restore to the checkpoint before you loaded the phone. DON'T do a full system restore at this point...just go back to the restore point before the phone. There are also some diagnostics in …

there's a section here that explains how. Be aware that you need a CROSSOVER cable to do this and not a normal ethernet cable. http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/networking/expert/russel_hni.mspx

when you boot the machine, there will be a black screen that gives you the option of pressing the F12 key. That will take you to the system recovery. You DON'T want to recover...what you want is the system diagnostics...I don't have a Compaq so I don't know what this …

battery back up. This will not only keep you from losing power but will keep your IP from changing when you power back up! $50-100.

It sounds like a driver issue. Did you install the printer with it connected directly to the Vista computer? I would go to the printer web page and try to download the newest Vista drivers for the printer.

If the router is recycled, for example, by a power outage, the IP will be different when it's restored. So I'm thinking if the IP is different after your outage, then the ISP must be dropping you and you can complain. If it's the same, then you've got a router …
