Webroot's Spy Sweeper with Antivirus or PC Tools Internet Security are two of the best. Norton is a resource hog.

you can have nothing in the startup list and still start a computer and use it normally, it's only what was there that WAS needed ... i can't think of any startup item, when removed, would render a computer unbootable. have you tried setting the BIOS to default settings?

if you don't have surge protector between devices and power outlets, you may have to call Seagate and hopefully get a new drive from them under manufacturers warranty.

if you're using a router you may have to log into it and release and renew the ISP's IP/GW/DNS addresses. if you are not using router then use the ipconfig /flushdns command at command prompt

malwarebytes should fix your issue but if it comes back after a few reboots then I would check hidden devices in device manager -- go to non-plug 'n' play section and look for tdsserv -- if it's there disable it

you prolly need to add an extra line or two in the boot.cfg file that is used on your first drive. What boot loader are you using? Grub or Lilo?

Go with XP. Vista has so many issues with device drivers for all sorts of hardware. Vista is just Windows ME on steroids. Once XP is installed you can update to SP3 and not worry about anything not working out of the box. Dual boot XP and Vista? Why? Once …

Disable IPv6 then restart. Run the aformentioned release/renew commands and if that doesn't work I know that a recent update affects certain modem/router two in one models. What modem and/or router are you using?

Have you tried uninstalling the device from Device Manager and then restarting the computer? This will install the drivers again that Windows was loaded with at installation. If this doesn't work then you may have to download the original drivers from the Compaq support site onto your flash drive and …
