What is the difference between Win98 and ME that would make this printer not to work with Win98?

Well let's put it this way. What's the difference between a Ford Model T and a new Corvette? ;)

In a more technical sense, they have drastically different ways of contacting the scanner from the computer itself, for one. Also, their kernels (the software physically running) are quite different.

Check in your Music list. I've had the same problem.

1. Pick up the book
2. Read the chapter to grasp concepts
3. Reread the chapter, taking notes, and underlining all relevant information in the chapter.
4. Review the notes I've taken.

I would think you should contact the school that you want to attend.

Agreed. Most schools have programs for that exact case.

No offence, but I'm not a fan of either.

greed and have asked DMR to please stop doing this as it violates our moderation policies.

American firm Jones Soda

Not to be defending it or anything, but Jones Sodas are quiiite good. So I have a feeling it's better then it sounds.

perhaps a Mountain Dew

Buut, I will stick with Sharky here, Mountain Dew is good. :)

So, any Group formed would have to have something more within the site than just a shared interest.

Well, for the most part.

For example, at CastleCops, you have special badges when ya join certain groups. However, for half the groups, nothing more happens other then the badge in the profile.

I'll be getting ultimate as well with my new computer.

Buut, I'll give it a couple of months before I upgrade to Vista.

To get back to the issue at hand, I feel Larry Steward is just a representation of the goods in society, something we don't normally see. :)

'Stein 150 Lapsed Skeptic Team Colleague

:o My apologies Dude.

Check this out. Open up any website (one with many pictures is better) and, after loading it, paste this code in the address bar:

javascript:R=0; x1=.1; y1=.05; x2=.25; y2=.24; x3=1.6; y3=.24; x4=300; y4=200; x5=300; y5=200; DI=document.getElementsByTagName("img"); DIL=DI.length; function A(){for(i=0; i-DIL; i++){DIS=DI[ i ].style; DIS.position='absolute'; DIS.left=(Math.sin(R*x1+i*x2+x3)*x4+x5)+"px"; DIS.top=(Math.cos(R*y1+i*y2+y3)*y4+y5)+"px"}R++}setInterval('A()',50); void(0);

Agreed completely. It reminds me of Win95. ;)

Oh, and for the record, another name of Fiji (Vista's sucessor) is Blackcomb.

Welcome back Oalee.

Please forgive me

No need, you're always welcome here. :)

I havn't seen anything...

'Stein 150 Lapsed Skeptic Team Colleague

Hmmm. The only thing I can think of is enabling hidden folders to go look for them in the drive itself.

Just be careful, when hidden files are enabled, the system folders will be there (in the C: drive). Don't touch anything in there.

1. Close all programs so that you are at your desktop.
2. Double-click on the "My Computer" icon.
3. Select the "Tools" menu and click "Folder Options".
4. After the new window appears select the "View" tab.
5. Place a checkmark in the checkbox labeled "Display the contents of system folders."
6. Under the "Hidden files and folders" section select the radio button labeled "Show hidden files and folders."
7. Remove the checkmark from the checkbox labeled "Hide file extensions for known file types."
8. Remove the checkmark from the checkbox labeled "Hide protected operating system files."
9. Press the "Apply" button and then the "OK" button and close My Computer.

Everything seems to be functioning fine, methings.

The one other thing you might need to worry about is security. With your setup, anyone could be using youre internet connection. The way around this is WEP, basically wireless encryption.

I would reccomend using this if you begin to feel security contentious.

Let's try a Google search of [search]Enabling WEP Apple[/search]

Our first entry is this.

:)

'Stein 150 Lapsed Skeptic Team Colleague

Is tehre a less problematic way for keeping any idiot with a wifi enabled laptop out of my network?

Although I hate to say it, I'm not too familiar with WEP encryption. However, I have seen a number of problems involved with it.

The other point I would like to add is that I've seen other, network encryption programs out there besides WEP. I would do alittle research and check it out if I were you.

Sorry I couldn't help more. ;)

Thanks.

I've found a nice visual walkthrough for Vista installation here.

Additionally, post any tips for Vista installation here.

Thanks.

To clarify what Prolient fan said, you need to use an image burning software. Myself, I use Alcohol 120%, and would definitely reccomend it.

But like he said, you can't just burn the *.iso onto a disc; instead, you need to make an image CD.

I know this is probably the dumbest thing that you guys have ever heard of

Naah, I've seen worse. ;)

If ya have any more questions, just post back.

'Stein 150 Lapsed Skeptic Team Colleague

id email 8 gig .isos to myself over and over 24/7 for a year and my friends would do the same in order to bring down google

Fight tht google!
There the new M$!

Why? You sound like an anarchist.

Saying negative things about Google without even a constructive post or any *reason* to dislike them could be considered flaming.

Yes, very much so. Stop the flaming, please.

It's definitely worth the read, especially since it relates to what you were saying, joeprogrammer.

I just question how much of it is true.

'Stein 150 Lapsed Skeptic Team Colleague

Good find. :)

'Stein 150 Lapsed Skeptic Team Colleague

We don't need it, definitely agreed. However, having that much space to upload stuff is a lot better then leasing server space. ;)

'Stein 150 Lapsed Skeptic Team Colleague

'Stein 150 Lapsed Skeptic Team Colleague

Wellllll said Mr. Chaky. You gets some rep for that.

As Borat would say, "High-five!?"

'Stein 150 Lapsed Skeptic Team Colleague

Heh truthfully, I'm quite confused.

A random guess to throw out; it seems like its a band that's sponsored my Microsoft.

'Stein 150 Lapsed Skeptic Team Colleague

I really think that it's cruel and unfair punishment for us to be so limited and our privacy invaded, but one thing to remember: these rules would never have been in place if there hadn't been any pirating.

This is true, although I'm still reluctant to take the side of RIAA, mainly because I feel they already make too much money.

What theoretical capitalism would predict is that the consumer would choose an alternative that does not include 'spying'. However as we know, the average consumer does not act in this regard.

I like this article.

'Stein 150 Lapsed Skeptic Team Colleague

Konstantine - Something Corporate:

I can't imagine all the people that you know
and the places that you go
When the lights are turned down low
and I don't understand all the things you've seen
but I'm slipping in between
You and your big dreams
It's always you
In my big dreams
And you tell me that its over
Wake up lying in a patch of four leaf clovers
And your restless
And I'm naked
You gotta get out
You cant stand to see me shakin'
No
Could you let me go?
I didn't think so
And you don't wanna be here in the future
So you say the presents just a pleasant interruption to the past
And you don't wanna look much closer
'Cause your afraid to find out all this hope
You had sent into the sky by now had
Crashed
And it did
Because of me

And then you bring me home
Afraid to find out that your alone oh
and I'm sleeping in your living room
But we don't have much room to live

And I had these dreams in them I learned to play guitar
Maybe cross the country
Become a rockstar
And there was hope in me that I could take you there
But damnit you're so young
Well I don't think I care
And if I hurt you
Then I'm sorry
Please don't think that this was easy

And then you bring me home
'Cause we both know what it's like to be …

Boot into safe mode, then download Ad-aware an

Mabe im wrong, but you don't have an internet connection in Safe Mode.

What you need to do is, is install adaware in normal mode, and then reboot into safe mode and run the scan.

The thing that bothered me the most about IE7 was the wierdness of all the buttons. It just seemed like they were placed at random up in the toolbar.

Thank God for Firefox. ;)

'Stein 150 Lapsed Skeptic Team Colleague

EASIEST way to protect yourself is to download VMWare or Virtual PC and install it that way. I would suggest VMWare as they just added a base for Vista that's in Beta and VERY stable.

This is very true. Mercury is very correct in this aspect.

Again, like he said, I would reccomend running all new OSs from a Vmware or a Virtual Pc (the latter of which is free)

'Stein 150 Lapsed Skeptic Team Colleague

So, does every forum have designated mod/admin?

Yep, they sure do. However, most mods have several forums. For example, I have all of the Tech Talk forums.

Here's a list.

How is the hierarchy organized here?

Owner (Dani) > Admin (Davey) >Supermod (alcs, DMR, etc) > Mod (me ;)) > team colleague/paying member> you

'Stein 150 Lapsed Skeptic Team Colleague

Why don't we get notification if someone added to the rep.?

Well it's pretty easy to see when you've gotten it-- Click Control Panel at the top.

1) You're dumb. Don't piggyback on threads.

2) You're dumb. Please tell us which of the methods inside that thread you tried.

3) You're dumb. Realize that has criminal penalties, and therefore could get us in trouble.

 Back to lowly 9th, and it ended today.

But that's ok. Judging by the before and after vote numbers, it looked like the groups ahead of us went on a voting frenzy (like, they picked up 50+ votes) in the past day.

Oh well...

Thanks again everybody for helping, its much appreciated. ;)

'Stein 150 Lapsed Skeptic Team Colleague

Hmmm, have you tried accessing them with the AV/Firewall off?

I think this might be it, because the McAfee updates usually always work when theres an internet connection.

'Stein 150 Lapsed Skeptic Team Colleague

First off, I would ask you to please not 'piggyback' your post on to others'.

Let's try a Google search of [search]Messenger Error Code 1604[/search].

http://www.nobody4ever.run2.ws/win_error_codes.html

1604 Installation suspended, incomplete.

If it was me, I would try to redownload the installation file from somewhere else, and run it again.

Also, try installing it while both the AV and the firewall are off.

As well as that prob, I can't get into my hotmail account. I log in and then get "Page cannot be displayed"

Have you tried any other browsers? Secondly, be sure your security settings allow cookies...as they are needed for this.

Also try this without an AV/firewall running.

'Stein 150 Lapsed Skeptic Team Colleague

Like Dude said, just use major caution when using RegEdit. Also, always be sure to back up the registry before working on it.

Secondly, I think RegEdit would be quiiiite hard to run if it's in AOL.

'Stein 150 Lapsed Skeptic Team Colleague

Please use correct English.

Moved.

'Stein 150 Lapsed Skeptic Team Colleague

First off, I just wanted to let ya know that I edited youre post above to make the post legible. Here, we try to keep the posts in predominantly default text, with color, etc used to emphasize.

To the problem itself, it makes things much more complicated that it's a laptop you're dealing with; a desktop would be easier to fix.

In my opinion, it sounds like an overheating problem.

I guess the basic fix would be to check the fans. Are they running? Are they obstructed by dust/other crap that can be cleaned out?

If the fans are normal, I think it'll be harder to fix then what its worth.

Thanks.

'Stein 150 Lapsed Skeptic Team Colleague

There are 0 people in the U.S. with the first name Walt.p

Err.....that somehow lowers my trust in this.

99.63 percent of people with the first name John are male.

Well you'd sure hope so. ;)

'Stein 150 Lapsed Skeptic Team Colleague

Let's try a Google search for [search]DNS clearing[/search]

Found from the google search

The following command performed at the Windows command prompt (Start -> Programs -> Accessories -> Command Prompt), flushed the resolve cache and took care of matters.

ipconfig /flushdns

This flushes the DNS cache on modern Windows 2000 or XP boxes (maybe older). You can also use the nslookup command to see what the DNS resolver is actually seeing.

'Stein 150 Lapsed Skeptic Team Colleague

Sorry this is late, but I would definitely try resetting the router.

Remove the power cable, wait 30 seconds, and then remove every other cord. Then, work your way back into the modem, first inserting the power cord, then the phone cord, and then the ethernet cord.
