^Are those NO strings attached as well?

I guess my question is how do they make enough money to keep it? I've always been taught that nothing is free..

I started a poetry journal at listenlight.net, but it only occupies 0.2% of the plan's capacity. I'm looking for interesting ideas for exciting, educational, or philanthropic use for all the extra space and bandwidth. :-)

I guess it would just depend on how much you had, for how long.

I'm in sort of the same predictament now (except it's been donated to me). The only real thing I use it for is a hard drive image, and sometimes will act as an upload service for friends.

'Stein 150 Lapsed Skeptic Team Colleague

Noot bad darren. :)

'Stein 150 Lapsed Skeptic Team Colleague

I got a bunch uploaded, but there not in public domain. ;)

*Wishing I could upload the rest*

See, I'm an amateur photographer.

@Darren- The trick to aerial pics is to shoot at sunrise or sunset.

@Joe- Nooot bad.

Several things.

Have you checked out your Hosts file? It might be corrupted.

Secondly, have you tried putting the IP address directly into the nav bar? I don't know, but I have a feeling it might bypass the Hosts file.

If you need help clearing Hosts, post back.

'Stein 150 Lapsed Skeptic Team Colleague

Also, it wouldn't hurt to provide your IP as well.

If ya want me to look it up, feel free to PM me.

'Stein 150 Lapsed Skeptic Team Colleague

It's because the majority of his post were in the C and C++ forum...

If ya don't remember, Wolfie had a promotion going where he would give a higher reputation for each post inside C and C++.

;) *if only I knew C++...*

'Stein 150 Lapsed Skeptic Team Colleague

Well said Wolfie.

Rep for both of ya.

And ya, SOS, mabe this'll override that red dot. :)

Darren, that looks quiite nice. :)

'Stein 150 Lapsed Skeptic Team Colleague

Well Said Sparky!

The fact is, men and women think differently, and I would imagine (though I don't know this for a fact) that men are more numerical and women more verbal. This isn't sexism, it's just a fact of life.

That sure is a fact...and is the very reason why the Writing section was added to the SAT. ;)

*curses women for making the SAT harder to ace for me*

'Stein 150 Lapsed Skeptic Team Colleague

I couldn't give ya any stats or anything, but from my experience, there's drastically more software for Windows.

'Stein 150 Lapsed Skeptic Team Colleague

That looks pretty nice to me.

And yes, it should work, as long as you have an open USB port.

'Stein 150 Lapsed Skeptic Team Colleague

My pleasure.

Mac --> should be used by the regular home user. Macs are easy to use, have all the software a user will ever need incorportated in it

Err...I would argue against this slightly. How about gaming?

Macs are built to last

Does this apply to iPods too? ;)

There are a lot less viruses for linux than windows

This brings up the age-old arugment. Is this because of a stronger core, or simply because more people use Windows instead? (My opinion, the latter).

Have you tried running Flight Sim on the lowest resolution possible? If so, does it freeze?

To tell you the truth, you will be MUCH more safer with Firefox, regardless of Ad-watch.

would like to know how I can stay protected from spyware and viruses

Well to tell the truth, the best thing is using common sense when browsing. No clicking on popups, no irrational downloads, no porn. ;)

However, on the software side of things, you're so-so. I see you have Ad-Aware. In my personal opinion (and my specialty is spyware) I would strongly reccomend switching to Ewido, as it has a higher virus-detection rate. Even when the free trial runs out on the download, it it still very active, just you have to update definitions manually.

Secondly, always be sure to browse with an AntiVirus and a firewall. Also, I see that you're running Norton Internet Security. While this isn't the best AV/firewall combination, it is halfway decent. If you ever wanted to upgrade (like when youre contract is over, for example), I would reccomend either AVG or Avast! as an AV, and either Sunbelt Kerio or ZoneAlarm as a firewall. All of these are free.

And that's about it. If ya have any more questions, just post back.

Thanks. :)

'Stein 150 Lapsed Skeptic Team Colleague

At the time I had Dial-Up with Telstra Bigpond and we went heaps of Megabytes past our download limit. I now have 512Kbps broadband.

AHhhh, I see. I was having the same question as prolient_fan. ;)

'Stein 150 Lapsed Skeptic Team Colleague

if we get virus worm trojan its our baby not yours happy surfeing

No not at all. What if you're infected with a bot? These are designed to connect to the internet and infect others.

Or what if you're on a network, and you're infected with a network bug? Then, depending on the size of the network, you could infect the entire company.

Or how about a simple worm? Once you're infected, it sends infeted emails to everybody in your address book.

Thanks.

Actually, I think the best thing would be to simply contact Microsoft and explain the problem. My guess is that they have a download page for this type of problem--where a serial key is already used and isn't needed.

'Stein 150 Lapsed Skeptic Team Colleague

Spyware is a very valid possiblity, although I wouldn't reccomend Adaware.

Rather, use Ewido--it has a better detection rate.

'Stein 150 Lapsed Skeptic Team Colleague

Sorry for the late reply.

AOL keeps signing off and then back on. The internet connection has not been lost.

Out of curiosity, what makes ya think the internet connection has not been lost?

Secondly, the problems might be because its AOL....;)

'Stein 150 Lapsed Skeptic Team Colleague

First off, I want to apologize for the late reply. ;)

Why the number 1492? I know its set at 1500 but why 8 less?

I might be wrong, but I believe it's a port name in the computer. I dunno why its 1494. :)

What is the MTU?

The MTU is a limit, expressed in bytes, on the size of data sent over a network

I dunno about the other ones...it's not my specialty. :)

'Stein 150 Lapsed Skeptic Team Colleague

What I'm startign to think is that mabe it might be due to a broken browser.

I would reccomend trying to download FireFox and then try using that.

Sorry for the late reply. ;)

'Stein 150 Lapsed Skeptic Team Colleague

Can you by chance see what*.exe is causing it to not shut down?

'Stein 150 Lapsed Skeptic Team Colleague

Of course I feel that piracy is wrong, but I feel as long as a legal key is used, it should be alrite.

'Stein 150 Lapsed Skeptic Team Colleague

Good find Jado!

I've been watching this thread, not understanding the problem till now. :)

'Stein 150 Lapsed Skeptic Team Colleague

Have ya tried unistalling completely 11, and then just reinstalling 10?

Linkey to download

'Stein 150 Lapsed Skeptic Team Colleague

I'm thinking so, but before I confirm, we'll let some other people voice in. :)

'Stein 150 Lapsed Skeptic Team Colleague

Hmmmm...have ya tried System Restore?

'Stein 150 Lapsed Skeptic Team Colleague

Hmm, does every other website work?

Is it possible that somehow your firewall is blocking it?

'Stein 150 Lapsed Skeptic Team Colleague

*Watches this thread as I want to do the same thing*

'Stein 150 Lapsed Skeptic Team Colleague

Hmm, does the same problem occur when ya access hte mail from somewhere other then OE?

'Stein 150 Lapsed Skeptic Team Colleague

I've seen it, and tis very annoying.

I see if I can get a screenshot next time I see it.

'Stein 150 Lapsed Skeptic Team Colleague

Several things.

1) Sadly, the uninstallation of NIS is a very tricky process (they do this so ya don't uninstall it ;).) My recomendation would be to reinstall the software, and then go to Norton's website and follow the directions they give for uninstalling it exactly how it's written.

2) I would strongly reccomend not using the Windows firewall, as it is only half of a firewall. See, the Windows firewall only screens incoming, but not outgoing traffic. Therefore, if you ever did get infected, you would never know it.

The firewall I would most reccomend is ZoneAlarm (it's free as well).

3) I would definitely reinstall some Antivirus on that computer once NIS is removed! Reccomendations: Avast! or AVG (both free; I use AVG).

4) Finally, be sure all the Windows patches are up to date on that computer.

Thanks.

'Stein 150 Lapsed Skeptic Team Colleague

Several things.

1) Does this problem happen every time youre online, or just when you open the internet?

2) Have you tried FireFox? If not, I would install it and see if it works.

3) I would also uninstall and reinstall AOL and IE again, as they may have become corrupted.

Also, I've moved this to the correct place.

'Stein 150 Lapsed Skeptic Team Colleague

Can you post pics here or only link?

Post away, just keep them at a reasonable size.

I'm gonna have to use tweak UI or something.

Very true. Have you tried reinstalling IE7?

'Stein 150 Lapsed Skeptic Team Colleague

Just curious is this some method of cleaning or so that it doens't over heat like you said?

It's simply to see if heat is the problem for it all.

I sadly can't do right now because my mom's home and she'd freak out if she saw me taking the computer apart

Hehe I know what ya mean. :)

'Stein 150 Lapsed Skeptic Team Colleague

Hello Jennifer.

can this mp3 player use iTunes, because all my music is on iTunes, and well, you know how it is exporting 1300 songs to another music player.

Nope, iTunes will only support iPods.

ere are 1168 people online right now and in the course of 20 minutes i dont get 1 response?

Please don't bump your thread.

Welcome.

Begin by downloading CCleaner, and specifically choosing the most recent version.

Then, follow these steps:

1. Close all programs so that you are at your desktop.
2. Double-click on the "My Computer" icon.
3. Select the "Tools" menu and click "Folder Options".
4. After the new window appears select the "View" tab.
5. Place a checkmark in the checkbox labeled "Display the contents of system folders".
6. Under the "Hidden files and folders" section select the radio button labeled "Show hidden files and folders".
7. Remove the checkmark from the checkbox labeled "Hide file extensions for known file types".
8. Remove the checkmark from the checkbox labeled "Hide protected operating system files". 9. Press the "Apply" button and then the "OK" button and shutdown My Computer.
10. Now your computer is configured to show all hidden files.

Now, install the program. Open it, and choose the 'Options' tab. Inside, hit the 'Custom' tab, and add the following folders (Note: Not all of these files are on every computer. If one of these isn't present, skip it):

C:\Windows\Temp
C:\Temp
C:\Documents and Settings\<Every user listed>\Local Settings\Temp
C:\Documents and Settings\<Every user listed>\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5
C:\Documents and Settings\<Every user listed>\Local Settings\History
C:\Documents and Settings\<Every user listed>\Cookies
C:\Windows\Prefetch

After doing this, move back to the 'Cleaner' tab, and inside this, be sure your open to the 'Windows' …

Sabatas-

What I think the problem is is that Adobe is in a corrupted state on your computer.

I would try doing this first:

Reinstalling the program like they say. After it's fully installed, try uninstalling again. See what happens.

Keep us updated. :)

Well I have 3 Dell laptops and love all of them.

What I like most is that most arn't as Dell-customized as other brands.

For example, when you buy a Toshiba laptop, they install all sorts of junk on there--Dell on the other hand doesn't do this so much.
