i'm sure john will be very unhappy with me getting an account,
;)
I want to thank everyone again for all the help we've recieved.
As of now, we're in 4th place. We're down 42 votes from third, and about 150 from first.
Thanks again for all the contiuned support, and keep those votes rolling in. :)
Hahaha that's goood.
Well, what did you say in the first place?
:o ;)
but it's much nicer when they're built-in.)
It's not feasable to have a spell checker built into DaniWeb because it's impractical to waste so much of our precious resources storing an entire dictionary of the English language. Plus, it doesn't make sense on a programming forum or forum where there are a lot of technical terms.
Agreed.
Waiiit, this isn't at our IRC, is it?
Ahh nevermind, its a Firefox 2.0 thing. ;)
Woaah, am I seeing something new that vaguely reminds me of Word, where misspelled words have the red underlining below them?
Niice :)
Thanks again everybody. :)
Keep those votes rolling in...
Quiiite amazing. Well done.
PS: BTW who is the girl Lauren
Hehe just a friend who'll share the tics...
Slightly off the technology road, but if anybody wants to help me win tickets to Bonaroo (a jam band fest near where I live), it'd be greatly appreciated.
Please go here, create a new account (which takes like 30 seconds) and vote for this picture.
Also, as a slight incentive, after you vote, PM me and I'll give ya some rep. ;)
Thanks again everybody, it's much appreciated.
bearshare, limewire.
There's your problem. I have a feeling youre infected with something. Post in the Virus forum please.
on the back of the package it says , 32mb min graphics card
;)
By minimum, they mean able to operate (which includes lagginess). However, the 'optimal' size far exceeds that.
Have you tried lowering all the video settings to the lowest possible settings in teh game?
Congrats GoldEagle
Hello Bushwack,
The signal is very weak on the PPC imac, the two computers are separated by about 60 feet.
Now I'm not too familar with Airports, but this seems to be a relatively short distance. Are there many walls between the computers?
I think I might just leave it the way it is. Is there some security concerns I need to be aware of?
Well, you always have to worry about them being able to access your son's files on his computer. I would just be sure that 'Sharing' is disabled.
Is there a way to use their internet wireless, and also use my airport for printer sharing on the intel mac?
Yes, you are going to need to share a printer from the computer its connected to.
Lastly, just be sure it's ok with your neighbors that your son uses their internet. ;)
Can you bring programs in via memory keys/CDs? ;)
If so, ya might want to try that.
Hi Daniel :)
First off, I just wanted to say that I edited your posts to remove the full color, bolding, and italicising. Rules here limit color/bold/italics to emphasize points only, not the full text.
Sorry for the hastle. :)
Oh, when I check my LAN connection it said 'Limited or no connectivity'
Let's work with this first, as I think this is the same problem as everything else.
How far away from the wireless router are you? If you're too far away, your wireless card will not recieve the signal, and think that you have no internet. Therefore, can you try moving the computer to right next to the router and determine whether you can access the internet from there.
If the above step doesn't work, we will need to reset the router and modem.
However, details for this depend on the type of internet connection (ie, cable, DSL, T1, etc).
Because of this, post back with:
1) whether the first step worked
2) a description of how everything is connected (ie Modem>Router>computer)
3) the type of internet connection
4) the type of modem, if possible.
Secondly, is there a way to turn tabbed browsing off?
'Stein's found it!
From IE7, click 'Tools'> Internet Options >Tabs (Settings)
The option is on the top of the page.
As for the location of the address bar, etc, I think it's awful. I don't think theres a way to change it, aside from a hack, but I'm not too sure.
As for me...sticking with Firefox.
Hmmm.
Have you tried accessing the sites while your firewall and AV is off?
Let's try this.
That's a very good question. I'll move this to the hardware forum.
Have you considered the fact that your rig is overheating? I would consider opening up the case and letting a fan blow air into it while you play.
If the problem still occurs after doing this, I would think its a part failure.
If this solves it, then I would try messing around with your fans/heatsink.
Thanks.
Here's a question for ya.
When you go to Add/Remove Programs, how many different Javas are found? Be sure to uninstall the older programs.
Also, be sure the latest Java is installed.
(moved.)
Are you sure your fans are operating. It would never hurt to buy a can of compressed gas and go and clean out the fans. Also, if you have some confidence, I would recommend opening up the bottom and doing the same to some of the other parts.
Thanks.
(Moved to correct forum.)
I think it's 2.0, but I'm not sure.
Check this site out, it might be of help:

Have you run virus scans?
I have a feeling this is the problem.
Monica-
Have you tried opening WMM and importing the video from there, instead of double clicking on the file? It should open.
Secondly, see if you can get the video recorder to record in a different format.
Thanks.
Generally, your same burner will make 'genuine' CDs as well. The only thing to be cautious of is to NOT burn MP3 CDs. These will not run on most player. However, most audio CDs will.
Thanks.
Sorry this is a bit late.
For the burning, I would definitely recommend Alcohol 120%. Sizewise, I simply dunno whether that will all fit onto 1 DVD. However, if that doesn't work, you could always find a filesplitter and place it on to several DVDs.
Lastly, your link is broken.
Thanks.
Thats odd. Has she tried typing the email using the internet instead of Outlook?
Secondly, has she tried sending the email regardless of how it appears in Outlook? It might be just a formatting error in Outlook, and might render OK in the email.
Thanks, and sorry for the late reply.
Hello John,
Have you tried resetting the router/modem? This will sometimes cause problems on only 1 computer.
Also, do you have any firewall/AntiVirus software running on this computer? If so, have you tried accessing the site with it off?
Lastly, have you tried resetting the Hosts file? This might be the problem.
Thanks.
Have you tried:
?
Also, please only use bolding to make specific points. Do NOT bold the entire post.
Thanks.
Hmmm. Sorry this response is delayed.
Is your internet running through a router? This is the likely problem. I would try resetting the router and trying again. Also, reset the modem while you're at it.
If you need help with this, post back.
Thanks.
Let's try this.
When your computer is starting, repeatedly tap the F8 key. When the menu pops up, choose 'Safe Mode' (not with networking or command prompt). If this works, try to uninstall the firewall that was previously installed.
If you cannot accesss the computer through Safe Mode, try starting the computer while tapping F8 again. This time, however, choose 'Boot to last known good configuration'.
Please post back when you've tried these.
Thanks.

To clarify my position a little, I acknowledge that every technological innovation has a different "technological benefit" to "complexity cost" ratio; some are grately worth it, some are not worthy at all, and a gradient between those. Maybe I might better rephrase my question as "Has our civilisation crossed the break even point, on the cumulative "technological benefit" to "complexity cost" ratio ?"
So the signs are there, but it's not (yet) come to the breaking point where the only options open to people are to completely abandon themselves to technology (a.k.a. the Matrix) or drop out of the system completely and withdraw to a life completely without it.
I would slightly argue against this last phrase. Let's take agriculture for example. If food stores and supermarkets were taken away (for whatever reason) do you think it would be possible for the current population to survive by farming/hunting/gathering? I would argue that these skills have been in time. Farming, for example, was generally lost during/directly after the Industrial Revolution.
I think that many people would starve to death because they would not be able to find or make food for themselves.
Also, I would argue that the human race is slowly losing its skill to survive when alone. For example, if the average human today was taken, and inserted in Africa, I feel he would not survive without the help of others.
Therefore, I think it could be said that yes, technology can reach a breaking point …
Well the one thing about file-cabneting on AOL is that you're given the option to save them to your computer, or to AOL itself. I think this is the critical point here. IF you saved to your computer, then the files should still be accessable. If they were saved to AOL, I bet they're lost.
Laptop or Desktop? What type of computer?
I take it you've tried the advice above, correct?
Well you could always use water displacement...heh
I fear Asimov's vision of his Caves of Steel may come true, massive underground cities where people live in tiny apartments without any amenities (everything from kitchens to toilets to bathrooms being communal), and the food supply being made up almost exclusively of industrially produced yeast and moulds flavoured to make it taste somewhat like vegetables, fruit, and meat.
Sounds like something that will happen, sadly.

Several things to try:
I believe the 'thumbs' are due to hidden folders being on.
SO, follow this:
Secondly, let's see if its the preview itself causing the problems.
Inside the affected folders, right click and choose View> List.
Try opening again.
Has this changed anything?
Thanks.
Again, wrong spot.
Moved.
I'm sorry, but joeprogrammer should be banned. He doesn't help any one at all.
No, not at all. YOU are the one that should be banned. We banned one name, and the generosity of some of the other mods is the reason you're still here.
If anybody, it is you that doesn't help anyone.
Let's try this.
Go to Run (start> run)
Type in 'Msconfig'. (without '')
Go to Boot.ini.
There should be 2 OSs listed. See if it will let you delete 1 entry.
Thanks.
Thread moved.
It shouldn't, unless the infected file itself is carried to the new computer.
