just searched lenovo .com and found this user manual and it says if you have a cd or dvd burner in it you can create a recovery cd.check it out .look in chapter 4

Thanks to all of you for offering to help. I will be happy to send $20 to anyone who can help me with the problem, I'm just very annoyed with myself. I can't restore the system, it won't allow me to do so. It goes through the process and then after it reboots, it just says "Your computer cannot be restored", which I assume is because I have only had the computer for two days. I got into the BIOS, but can't find any kind of BIOS default reset option. I am working with a desktop wired system, not a wireless. Thanks again for your interests in my problem!

we would love to solve this for you ,so help us ,and answer the questions to the above posters .also ,i sort of asked if you used ccleaner to un-install programs and not just disable startup items .what is the answer to that question .

so f2, f10 or f14 didn't help in finding a system recovery ,and as asked above did you not get a recovery cd with the computer

in ie ,tools /options/security have you tried putting these websites into the trusted sites .i use firefox as my main browser and have for a few yrs now.and have no problem going to what ever site i want .although i don't have to use aol thank god .

i use ccleaner and don't see a option to disable items,just delete then ,maybe im missing something .
anyway there must be a key to hit on startup to run the bios and one to run a winxp restore ,maybe f2 or f10 or f11, it usually shows on the screen on boot up ,if all you have is a lenovo flash screen, try hitting the tab key quickly and remove fllash screen

i think you will at least have to try another brand ,borrow one from a friend or just buy a small pack to try

Yep just a plain old data disc
Looking in the small box where the burning takes place, it says illegal disc or words to that effect. It also says in an error box "Failure to burn at 2.4X" or words to that effect. I've changed the speeds around and still nothing.

the blank disk you are using ,have you tried a different brand ,some burners are fussier than others ..,what windows are u usinf and have you lots of free disk space and ram

anyway, try a system restore first to see if you can get back to the first day you turned it on,before you removed things from startup ,did you use RUN/ msconfig to disable startup items.
How to use system restore ,go to start,allprograms ,accessories /system tools /system restore ,and set it to go back,maybe as far as you can or just back to the day before you removed the items .

and we would know what you removed from startup ,HOW

did you download the pdf file to your hard drive, or are you trying to open them within the AOL browser .

hello ,with the windows cd in the cdrom drive boot computer to the disk and go to repair console and do a R for repair and when you get to the command prompt type in "chkdsk /r" without the quotes""" when /if asked for password just hit enter .check link below for more instructions on getting to the recover command .

if it is a powered hub ,just unplug the power supply from it ,and try reboot and see what happens ,i had to take power off mine all together, because my computer would not completely shut down when hub was plugged into power .

it may be under the keyboard ,but did you remove the ram chip ,sometime the other slot is under the top chip.

if packed up, means it stopped working , and gutted means you were angry ,then i think the hdd died last year when you got gutted! and you may never get the file off of the drive .

If you can get ahold of a usb to ide adapter it would be easier to retrieve files. don't know if you have tried one yet. they can be bought off of tiger direct or new egg. very handy tools to have.

a external hdd,they are using one, is a usb adapter of sorts !!!

A RAR archive. Its got the parts of a programme on it which i want to keep, in case i get a new comp.

Hello And Welcome to Daniweb ,there are a lot of people here who know what tey are taking about and one will come along please be patient ,I have nothing to offer as i have never seen this before ,some opinions though ,cant see it having anything to do with the setting up of a network .but it could be a bad video card !!
have you scaned you computer with any spyware/virus lately .if not i suggest ,spybot search and destroy ,and ad-aware ,and a computer cleaner called CCleaner ,all can be found at www.filehippo.com ,in the spyware section .

i really shouldn't be replying to this because there are people here who know more about hardware than I ,but i would think a bigger power supply and a better cpu for the board you are buying .

not saying this will help but if it were mine i would go into bios and set it to optimal setting and see what happens .

problem could be caused because you board don't support pc3200,it calls for pc2100 ,so it could be just a backward compatibility problem with the samsung pc3200.

just when you search for hijackthis or search for anything .,a slow mouse is an indication of a slow computer not really a mouse problem ,usually ,did you run spyware /virus scan of any sort .

borrow a winxp disk and use it if you have a winxp key

when ever i go to the console it says that no hard disk drives are installed so how can i get to the recovery console

all i can say is if that the case then the hdd died!send back the laptop .

in a previous post i suggested you remove and plug harddrive back in did you try this .

you could try removing hard drive and then plugging it back in ,make sure to unplug it from power source ,and take out the battery first

I tried to start it in safe mode or any mode possible and it still did the same thing. also i tried to press f8 when it starts and nothing happens. and why should you not format the drive? when i booted from disk and selected recovery console it said no hard disk drives could be found?? should i send mine in for a replacement ( is it fubar) because i have a 3 year replacement plan but thats my last resort is there any other way to fix it???? did you unplug power and remove laptop battery before you install the ram .if not you could have caused a short and damaged the ram .
also the laptop cmos batter usually is wrapped in plastic and plugged into the motherboard via a small wire connector .

.so you can go to safe mode and it see drive ,go in again and run chckdsk check it off to fix all errors and don't interrupt it ,also, not sure it will help , but if it were me i would open case and unplug hdd power cabele and data transfer cable and and plug it back in ,from drive and from motherboard

did you fixboot or fixmbr in the recovery console,type help in RC to see command options .

Strange you are only complaining about sound with all those drivers missing ,how are you connecting to the internet !!,
Anyway ,you need to use the motherboard disk that should have come with the computer to load drivers for these devices ,or with the make and model # go the the computers makers website

I am not sure what you mean by XP compatibility mode?

means when you load software on a winxp machine you right click on the softwares install .exe and choose comparability mode and choose win NT mode .or you install the software if it will let you , and you right click its run icon and chose compatibly mode then .

hitting f8 on startup ,when you get to screen to choose safe mode or normal boot ,you will see ,"disable auto restart on system error" or what ever it actually says . click on that ,you should then get the bsod to stay up long enough to copy down the error reported .
